RE: Drawing lines in the sand... so to speak...

When I was a teenager, you could ride anywhere there was a fire road. Friend and I would take off for a weekend riding in the mountains. Ah, the good old days!

RE: Drawing lines in the sand... so to speak...

A prime example of what happens when you drink and drive:
Spangler, about 2 in the morning, I hear some god awful inhuman wailing coming from outside. My first thought was that something had happened to one of our older campers. I go outside, and there on the ground in some shirtless dude rolling on the ground and wailing god knows what.
Seems he decided to take his truck out for a little after-dark ride, drunk off his ass and rolled it a couple of miles away from where we were camped. Luckily he was by himself. He didn't take his wife because they had an argument (hmmmmmm, wonder why?), but he did take his two dogs, which are now lost in the desert.
You think his judgement was slightly impaired? Could be.
Police and paramedics were called (he left nice little blood stains on our friends trailer).
Could have been a very bad situation, because the trailer he decided to pound on was heavily armed.
Who else could have gotten hurt?
There are many many times that I decline to go on night runs because I have been drinking after dark. Even though there are few people out where we ride, especially at night, I still refuse to drive because I don't feel capable.
Oh, and by the way, I pick up other's trash while I'm out there, just so you greenies know.

RE: Weather at Pismo?

I didn't consider my responses as a personal attack. I didn't call anyone names, just stated that drinking and driving was not a good thing that puts not only the drinker and his/her family in jeopardy, but puts mine and my activity in jeopardy too.

RE: 2009 Raptor septic question

I too have this problem, and it seems to come from the black tank. Open the valve and get a little dirty bath. Since the Raptor is a sealed underbelly, I couldn't get to the valve itself to replace it, so I added the extra twist on valve on the end. No more baths.

RE: New Leveling system

TVmotorsports is one of the nicest guys you could meet, and gains nothing by mentioning a product that he thinks may be well received by the RV Industry. He is trying to help out you guys, not himself. Whether he knows you or not, if you have a product that he likes, he will mention it. No harm in that, now is there?

RE: Finally got remodeled!

We don't sit in it too often either and i say the same thing soooo expensive to sit outside and eat in our laps! But we use the rig often and sometimes its raining/windy way to much to be outside when your chair gets blown across camp you might want to seek refuge. Our annual 12 days in Spangler would be so much more comfy!:C
I hung the pics with the command velcro used command everything in there actually, due to the wall paper, Hooks for jackets, Keys etc.... Love that stuff been on the walls 2 yrs no issues.
Thanks Duane! How are you? Hope all is well there and THANK YOU:B

RE: Bye Bye OHV's

It's not over till it's over. Not all of our government officials are as blind as those who are trying to take away our OHV rights. While they might take some land here and there, I know of many areas that are recreation friendly and have proven to make both sides happy. We just need to remember to tread lightly and clean up after ourselves and (when necessary) others. Respect is key.
Absolutely. But will it be enough? There are many out there that want to see the thrillcraft riders no longer allowed to ride anywhere.

RE: Bye Bye OHV's

You should note that most ATVs have a SEALED crankcase, which, while "oil filled", are constructed in such a manner to keep contaminants (i.e dirt/dust/crud/water) out of the motor. This preserves the motor (very important). This also keeps oil from leaking out into the pristine stream-waters you referenced. The same principle applies with the gasoline in the tank.
I have a Honda TRX400 for over 10 years, and yes, during that time I have beat the h*ll out of it. The garage floor under which it sits is clean enough to eat from-- though I'm not sure why I would want to. In spite of years of hard use, it does not leak, drip, froth, purge or expunge oil, gasoline and/or any other spooge. The point is that ATVs- especially the 4 strokes- are clean and for the most part quiet machines that do not ooze contaminants into the ecosystem like some type of 4-wheeled Exxon Valdez.
This small but oh-so-significant fact should be factored into any discussion before one mounts his eco-white horse or steps onto his soap box (made from recycled wood products of course) and fires a few sanctimonious salvos in our general direction.
Too many big boy words!

RE: Bye Bye OHV's

My family and I respect other peoples camp sites and follow the rules. We respect the land we ride on and always stay on designated trials when in limited use areas.............ALWAYS!! But the day they make off-road riding illegal, is the day me and my family become OHV OUTLAWS!!!!!! Catch me if you can :p
Even in open riding areas, I always stay on existing trails. If I get myself between a rock and a hard place, then I might have to stray off the trail to get out of my situation, but I hate doing that! (So sorry Mr. Bush! (not the president!)) Open riding or not, I want to minimize my impact as much as possible.

RE: Bye Bye OHV's

Why do we not just sell most all of this land. Pay down the national debt and start collecting taxes off on it.
It would help stop the whiners on both sides of the fence if it was not there to whine over. There must be some making money in some manner off all of this land or it is just costing us a pretty penny just to look pretty.
Wouldn't stop the whiners. They want people eliminated from the lands and will not stop until they get their way. Even if it is private property, they would try to find some reason to stop people from doing what they consider bad.
Wonder how many yellow bellied black flies lost their home on the land where their house was built?

RE: Bye Bye OHV's

They (Enviro-wackos) will not be happy until they have us all on bicycles and all wilderness areas are accessible by foot only.
Apparently you think anybody that doesn't agree with you on this issue is an "Enviro-wacko". Well, I am not an "Enviro-wacko" and I do agree with closing public lands to OHVs. I have seen first hand how they trashed Tonto National Forest in Arizona, so I can only imagine what they are doing to other public lands across our nation.
People who have no respect for public lands, deserve to loose it.
Again, I repeat:
"So since we are being judged by the actions of a few, we should ALL be punished? I could put some racial stereotypes in here and then say that ALL of that race should be punished for the actions of a few. Would that be fair?"

Just time, money, and the 2600 miles in between.
Heck, it takes me a day and a half just to get out of the State of Florida!
Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. Come on! HTFU!

RE: Easter 2009

Hey Al, you never showed! What's up with that?
Well, I did get off work early and thought about making the trip.
Actually we WERE there in spirit(s) though. :B
I got off work about 1:30p on Saturday and already had the TH hitched to the truck to bring it home. Got home and loaded up food, drink, wife, fishing poles and headed to the beach. We lounged, ate, drank, and fished until about 2am.
Stayed until Sunday evening, and then returned home. All in all, a great weekend, but we still need to get out west for one of the hoolie outings.
So what's keeping ya?

RE: Dual landing gear

No Warrior here. Raptor 3612. Been through 2 motors so far. I was told by the manufacturer that they didn't put in heavy enough gage wire, and this may be why the motors struggle so much, but they didn't offer to fix this situation. Wish i could afford the dual. Seems like a lot of weight for one little motor to lift!
