RE: gas station bad mistake

No gas station poles yet, but took out a stump. Even asked the DW to get out and watch to make sure I was clear. Don't know what she was watching, but hit stump with pass side front corner. And of course it was my fault! Similar "accident" here, DW watching me back up into the yard and took about 30' of chain link fence down before I heard her yell "STOP" It was all my fault because She said She was waving at Me to stop, only problem, it was dark outside, No Can See Her waving!! That's funny. When we got our first trailer (not the TH we have now), I needed to park it next to my house. I tell DW to back me up. She gets out, I start to back up, and I see no one! She is standing directly behind the trailer! I knew what she did, so I stopped and just sat there, chuckling to myself. When she realized I wasn't going to move, she pops her head from back of the trailer and says "What?"

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

It's just fun to argue. We know that there is no way to win the argument, because there is only one right side. Theirs.

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

Not to get off subject here, but this is just a reminder about the 1st Annual "Blazin New Trails through the Desert" event, shortly followed afterward by the "Desert Tortoise Chase". Remember, no bikes larger than a 230, they have to have a little chance of survival. Also there are a couple of seminars to be aware of. "How to Dump your Black Water Tank before leaving Camp". And "Getting the Most Watts out of your Haulers Stereo" Thank you very much for making my stomach hurt! That was funny as heck! By the way, where do we sign up, and are Rhino's allowed?

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

One could imagine a percentage, but that route is probably not reliable: One percent of a hundred riders is just one person making a mess, not a sufficiently large number to bother me. But one percent of a million comes to 10,000 people destroying the flora and fauna. Unfortunately, people destroy flora and fauna every day. It's what happens when human beings occupy the earth. Taken to extremes, would you have all humans banned from all lands? Not sure how that would work. Not to mention the fact that I am sure there are plenty of "tree-huggers" that do plenty of destroying of their own. One of the top-dogs in the "Save the Earth" movement (Al Gore), is a very wasteful person (by the way, all the hoopla over humans causing global warming is bogus. You know that, right?) You are right, where do you draw the line? Unfortunately for a lot of the anti-offroad people, the line only exists where they say it exists, on their side, no compromise allowed. And the word "revenge" did not come from Hockymom. She was mearly quoting the actual facts about what these "Duke" people preach. I have seen the books and their recommended methods of getting rid of off-roaders. Maim and kill, pure and simple. Is this an acceptable method of handling the perceived problem?

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

I reduced my driving drastically for that purpose. My car drove around 600 miles the year before last (2007), and fewer than 200 last year (2008), and none this year. We walk or ride the bicycles as much as possible, or simply avoid taking unnecessary trips. Lynn Could possibly post up some pictures of you pulling your airstream with your bicycle? This is something that all of us would be interested in seeing.

Yes, Hayduke lives. Lynn So are you preaching revenge on offroaders? Is that the way to solve what you perceive to be a problem? Have you put any of those ideas into practice?

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

So if they close more and more land based on the wants of a few, then it is no longer "our" land, it becomes "their" land. How is this fair. Why are we being excluded from the "our"? Again, I say, if those people are doing wrong, then they should be punished. Don't judge the bushel by a few bad apples. Of course, according to Thrillcraft, we are all bad apples. You aren't being excluded; your offroad vehicle is. Learn to hike, or get a horse. You'd might be surprised at what you discover out there. :) Lynn Then yes I am being excluded. I do what I do because I choose to, and I am a responsible rider. I discover a lot of things when I ride. I love to look at the landscape, study the terrain. I don't just ride to ride, I ride to explore also. What right do "you" have to take that away from me? You still haven't answered if you are willing to give up your motorized vehicles in order to "save" the environment.

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

... Offroad recreationists have just as much right to ues OUR land as you have the right to enjoy the land behind your property without them. Let us have ours, you keep yours. I think that's what everyone is trying to get across here. The public-lands designation confers no "right" to use the land in any way that you wish. The "our" of our lands is an inclusive one, including those who do not wish that land to be used by offroaders; it no more belongs to you than it belongs to me. The land behind my house is public land (Carson National Forest), closed to offroad use except on designated trails and roads. The designation seems to be meanless to those who feel that they can ride anywhere they please on "their" land. :) Lynn So if they close more and more land based on the wants of a few, then it is no longer "our" land, it becomes "their" land. How is this fair. Why are we being excluded from the "our"? Again, I say, if those people are doing wrong, then they should be punished. Don't judge the bushel by a few bad apples. RE: Help keep our riding areas open

So you are more important than us? So you are going to get rid of that Airstream that was made by a company using assorted chemicals (I sure hope you don't put chemicals in your poopy tank). So are you going to get rid of the vehicle that you use to pull that Airstream, made by a company using assorted chemicals, not to mention all the pollutants that you spew into the air, even more so when you are pulling your rig. Are you going to start riding bicyles every where you go? Are you going to stop passing gas (wouldn't want to contribute to the methane problem, now would we?) Are you going to stop going to the grocery store and buying all that food produced by hard working farmers, probably using chemicals to kill (gasp!) pest that would destroy your food. Are you going to do these things? What? No? Bad bad environmentalist!

RE: Help keep our riding areas open

I agree. If people are doing something illegal, then they need to be caught and punished, but do we all have to be punished for something someone else did? If that is the case, the everyone needs to go check themselves in to their local prison. I am a responsible rider. I ride in areas that are designated for such. Even in open riding areas, I try to stick to existing trails out of respect for my environment. I pack it in, I pack it out. While out riding, usually on the last day, I will collect a bag of trash and take it out with me. If I see wildlife, I avoid it at all costs. Why am I being punished?
