RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Ricky - Got your pm and looked back to see my link to the webshots album was junk. Turns out that webshots was bought out and they deleted any pics people had loaded. Of course they said they were "sorry" but Hallmark had shut down their servers and there was no way to retrieve anything. Thats the problem with relying on external storage sites. Good thing i keep everything on a portable 1TB! So here's a new link to a photobucket account I setup with the pictures from the interior changes. Hope you like them!

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Hi Lou - when i first got the rig I was having trouble getting the cable input to work. I noticed how the receptacle on the outside seemed to be lined up with the lower panel on the cupboard on the inside. I removed the panel to start tracing wires and it was fruitless. No idea where they went/go from there and the cable on the inside was connected tight. Next logical step was to check the cable on the back of the tv to see if it was on tight. When I looked there I found the cable was attached to the antenna input, not the cable input. I switched it to the cable input and its been working fine since. Now I have to wonder, as I have a tv antenna up there as well, how to hook up the antenna. There wasn't a second cable coming in behind the tv to hook up. So how is it wired? Lemme know what you find!

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Lou hit it on the head! Great "short story" Lou.
I think you would get the same general answer from any owner of an RW. Had ours now for about 2 years. Got it from a family in AZ - sight unseen - and all worked out super. Flew to Phoenix on a Friday night and drove home to MA in 2.5 days (very short breaks). Fell in love when we saw a video when we were searching for a diesel super c online. When we actually got to see it on drive home day we said "holy $&@?, what did we do", cause it is substantially larger the the jayco 31ss we had. The the superb handling on the way home, ease of driving, comfortable seating (built in coffee maker) reassured us we did the right thing. Have loved it since and plan on keeping for the foreseeable future. Cleaning: get a 14' stepladder! Clean and treat the roof first. Have awning open so you can clean with extending handle brush from the roof - got mine at a pool store for about $20. Power washer (gently especially with decals) and a soft brush on that handle does wonders. I use an all in one turtle wax concentrate. Leaves a nice shine without streaking. Rinse thoroughly.
As a side note to all: is anyone checking tire sidewalls? My coach is an 09 on an 08 chassis. I'm sure it sat around for a bit before they built it. Although I only have about 20k on the clock I am noticing minor drywall cracks. Will not take chances! Will be replacing my tires in the spring. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this.
Enjoy the rig!

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Hello Art and congrats on your purchase! We absolutely love our rig - same as yours. I don't have a problem as you described with the sound from the engine compartment. Maybe I'm just use to it. Your generator question already got answered, we experience the same delay. In regards to the awning - we usually have lights in the tube track so I don't set the awning for auto retract at all. The one time it was a real issue was during a trip to Michigan we experience straight line winds of over 60 mph - that was something new to us and quite the surprise! Luckily we were there for it so I scrambled to remove the lights, just in time, during the wind and rain and ferocious lightning storm and got the awning pulled in. Others were not so lucky - amazing how much damage occurred during that 10-15 minutes! We just don't get that here in the northeast too often.
The ceiling lights can actually be pulled right out of the hole in the ceiling. They have spring loaded retainers holding the assembly into the ceiling. And as mentioned the lens simply ( well, not so simply actually) unscrews with about a quarter to half turn from the assembly. I had to replace a couple of those bulbs - hot halogens! I'll be looking for some alternative led setups for those.
The wife and I were just talkin about our summer vacation this year the other night. We may possibly be heading for Yellowstone. I know there a quite a few owners of these rigs out that way. Maybe that would work for some? Probably looking around end of July or early August.
Best wishes with the new rig Art - hit us up for anything here!

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Wow Lou - not much of a difference in mileage. Towing the bike trailer I get the same 9.6 as without. There must be something going on. Hope he can find and solve it.

Hey that's great RZR! Congrats and good luck!
That would be a great gathering if we could all pick a central location / time to have a Warrior gathering! How coll would that be to see all our rigs in a row - kind of a homecoming.

I've heard good and bad about the Banks system for both mpg and power increase, although at 600+ lbft of torque and 300+ hp she has no problem getting her 22000 lbs up and going.

Thought I'd bring this subject to the front again. So has anyone that has done this thought it worthwhile? I too have the clunk, just haven't done anything about it yet.

RE: Interior remodeling

Hi Lou - sorry for the late reply. Hey that's great news! Glad it was something so (simple). Obviously your tech was right. Mine has the delay as well. After running for about a minute or two the interior lights click on brighter. I guess it's built in so that you don't prematurely energize too many circuits and detract power from the chassis systems. So, how was your November trip? Our last outing as to NC towing the bike to go ride the tail of the dragon and area roads. The Blue Ridge Parkway was one of the best rides I've done. Incredible views, winding roads, fresh air and my wife on the back - I will take that every day of the week!

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

On the subject of tires-
Even though the clock may be showing minimal miles, look at the sidewalls for cracking. These tires are now getting upwards of 4 - 6 years old. If minor cracks are appearing I strongly suggest having them looked at by a professional as you don't want a surprise on the interstate! Mine are exhibiting minor cracks and I intend on making a change in the spring before the next trip. For now she's sitting covered and winterized - sigh!

Hey Fred - sorry to hear its not working out for you! I remember when you were first looking at it. Hope you get what you need for it. Have you listed it on the good Sam site? I think I paid $99 to list my Jayco a couple of years ago and there was no time constraint. There were perks to listing it as well that may be worth your looking into. Good luck!

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Not sure if I mentioned it in this thread or another. The motor for the awning is on the front arm and we did have a situation where she didn't want to retract after a long weekend getaway. Turns out the tube end cap are newly modified because the old design would strip out the hole in the end cap. Old design had a round shaft with a single flat side. New design shaft has 2 flat sides and cap the same. Sold as an assembly for around $300! As it turned out carefree of Colorado has a 5 year warranty on the unit and I was lucky enough to find a local supplier who was willing to order it for me and let me replace it myself (labor not inc in warranty). 20 minutes to change assembly. I did have to "fudge" the delivery date a bit to keep it within warranty. They didn't require proof of delivery, just the serial number off the tag on inside of front awning arm at the bottom of it. Problem solved. Hope it works out for you. You're going to love the rig. Rides great. I would suggest getting an ext warranty for the driveline if its an option however, as repairs can be quite costly. Good Sam sells them. I used mine to cover my fan clutch otherwise it was going to be around $600. Some engine components like fuel injectors are covered for 50k. Fluid change - ALL- can run a few hundred. I did all mine at 9000 with synthetics and now don't have to worry about transmission or diff for quite a while.

RE: Interior remodeling

I've bought stuff from them. Spare led tail lights (mine cracked and got moisture in them), rear spotlight and upper tail light (7 eleven roof was sticking out further than I thought). I was going to get a spare bulb for the spotlights but $18 each was a bit much so I just replaced them with H3 driving bulbs. They just don't have hi/lo anymore which is no big deal. Got some t shirts too. Gotta go in style ya know!

RE: Interior remodeling

I found my chassis battery under the passenger door in a slide out tray. Don't know why but I haven't serviced it since I've had the rig. Probably should look now that your mentioning it. With my luck -
So when you say fuel savings is it because it alerts you to best throttle position as your driving - like an economy gauge? Or can you make adjustments with it to dial her in? For $150 ish that ain't bad. What are you getting for mileage now? I'm constantly at 9.6 - no matter speed, weight, towing or not, a/c or not, windows open or not and dogs tail waggin or not.

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

Yes under the bumper. If you look on the bottom of the bumper directly below the headlights you'll see there's a perfect sized hole on each side. I do notice that while driving down the road the beams are a bit further apart than may be desirable. I may fart around with it in the spring. As a side note to that: burnt a bulb already! Not happy about that.
As far as where to run power from - there's a junction box in the corner under the old seating near the fridge. Tap into that. My guy actually put the outlet into the face of the bench which would put it behind the person who's sitting close to the window leg. Not a troublesome spot but I would have located it on the wall with some "exterior mounting" product like what is used on old moldings that people don't want to cut in to.
I may use that method to add outlets at the kitchen counter. There's an outlet on the hallway edge of the counter now but you have to have the toaster or fry pan or whatever on that side to use it/them. I'd rather have the option of using stuff anywhere on the counter. I figure I can tap into the same circuit the coffee maker is on and in that way I'll have power from the inverter as well if the need (traveling playstation comes to mind) arises. I know the inverter is only 1500 watts - just gotta be smart about what you're powering up.

RE: Interior remodeling

Hey Theo how ya doing there? So what model did you get and how much was it? If you don't mind. We just came back from our NC trip. Rode the Blue Ridge Pkwy and the Tail of the Dragon on the bike out there. Absolutely breathtaking! Rig was perfect (usual 9.6 mpg) new interior much more comfortable and astecicly (sp?) appealing now. Anyone have good to say about Banks as far as economy goes?

RE: Interior remodeling

Lou-
Yes your alternator is wired to charge the coach batteries. At least my RWS is, but I woe suspect all RW's are. I just recently serviced my coach batteries and found severe corrosion on the terminals. I cleaned them real good with my dremel tool. Do your coach batteries charge while plugged in or with the generator running? If not then check fluid level in both batteries. Top off with distiller water if necessary. Check your terminals while in there - and also check the multitude of fuses, including the large master fuse to be sure they're not blown. I don't have a wiring schematic unfortunately otherwise I would send it to you. I do have the owners manual (70 plus pages) if you need a copy I can copy it and send it to you for whatever the actual cost is. Good luck and let us know how you make out - with the Banks system also.

RE: Calling all Road Warrior owners - RWS, RWT, RWM

You asked for it. But I can't be responsible if the feeling comes to you to tackle a project like this. Ok - I didn't do it - but after seeing how easy it was I could have. The changes we made were:
New flooring
New seating for four at the dinette
New "Dream Dinette" table slide bracket
New Jack knife sofa (love seat) seating for two
Seat belts for six
New carpet on the slide out
New carpet to the walls of the stairwell
Heater moved to under the jack knife
Electrical outlet added under dinette (kids need to charge their iPods ya know)
Propane port added to rear storage compartment - no more cans carried for the grill
KC Highlighters added for night vision (model 233 - 100 watt - 200,000 candlepower)
Permanent in dash wiring for Nuvi 455
Still some things to do but they're on the wait list for now. Not much more time left to this New England season so we're just going to enjoy what we've got for now and pick away at the other stuff later.
I love my Warrior!
(So does everybody we meet)
Here's a link to the pics I've taken. Hope you enjoy as much as we do!
