RE: How Do I Charge, and Maintain 2 New 6 Volt Batteries???

Is the 13.2 reading the float charge since your batteries were already charged? You will probably see 14.x volts when you recharge after a night or two.

RE: Pyrometer and diesel trucks

Getting the temp info is a smart move. I have a 2006 CTD like you and have the older EDGE/Attitude computer with EGT. I use it to monitor EGT, boost, tranny temp, and load percentage. EGT temp has a warning alarm at 1350 degrees, and tranny temp warning at 230. You will probably reach these temps while going up some of the steep parts of the WA Cascades depending on how you drive. These temps are about the max you want to be seeing, but the truck doesn't go into limp mode on the tranny until 265ish and not sure how high you can go on EGT's. With the 48RE 4-speed auto, just use the O/D Lock-out and you can climb the hills in 3rd as fast as you want. The gauges tell if you are pushing it too much (100% on the Load Percentage), or if there is still room to go faster (90% on the Load Percentage).
Going down the mountains is another story --- does the trailer have brakes? Surge or electric? An exhaust brake is awesome but you have to be carful to not overheat the surge brakes on the downhill.

RE: How Do I Charge, and Maintain 2 New 6 Volt Batteries???

.. anyone tried this kind of thing?
Equus 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor Yes I use one of those.
Does it work good? How accurate is it?
I use this too and it is a great tool for what you are doing. Accurate to 2 decimal places and easy to use.

RE: looking for tires

American racing has some 17" wheels rated to 3800lbs. You have to call around. Also, the pictures they show are for 20" wheels with 5 lugs. 17" wheels and 8 lugs look quite different.

RE: Chalet's TC Washer and Dryer pictures

Really cool. Wish I was there to see it, and Chalet just took a step up in my book for driving accross the country to show it off.
I also like the split entry and the lack of cabinets in the bed area.

RE: Just ordered a solar system for my TC

Instapark makes a solar panel mount system where they only specify using Sikaflex and no screws for holding the mounting brackets to the roof. This is the route I am considering so there are no holes/screws for water to leak thru.

RE: Adventurer 86FB on 3500 Dodge Mega Cab Diesel

Kevin, if you look at d3500ram's picture you will see how a megacab compares to a crew cab long bed truck as they both have the same frame (3rd gen). d3500ram is using a shortbed camper on a long bed truck and has a nice genny set-up in the space in between. The megacab has the bigger cab filling that space and uses the standard 6'4" shortbed.

RE: Adventurer 86FB on 3500 Dodge Mega Cab Diesel

And what about Megacab bashing?
We have a 2006 diesel 2500 megacab and carry a 2300lb dry Lance 830. We have had this combo for 4 years and would definitely do it all over again.

RE: First Hardside - 2011 Lance 830

At least they can pull the fridge out the tent opening while they have the tent fabric removed. Make sure they fill all the screw holes for the tent with caulking before they put it back on or use larger stainless screws. See if you can keep the old tent fabric for a back-up or a pattern if you need a new one. Someone on here posted you couldn't get new fabric for the 830 tents when Lance changed to the new style tent in 2012. It is good to know you still can. Since this is a new 2011 camper you should still get the 1 year warranty from Lance starting the day you take delivery. Is Lance covering the repairs or the dealer? I would make sure Lance customer service has been notified of this as you will probably deal with them directly on issues down the road.
Not a good way to start, but the 830 is a great camper and be happy you now have a brand new fridge and new tent canvas.

RE: First Hardside - 2011 Lance 830

We have an 830 and love it.
Hints: I added a second fantastic fan to the camper in the bathroom, and with both fans on high sucking out of the camper the negative pressure will almost close up the tent bed for you. Helps a lot with a single fan too. Make sure the zip open screens on the tent are closed up before you fold up the tent or that trick won't help much. It is also good practice to close up the screens so they don't get ripped. Extra padding in the tent bed is helpful as the stock 2" pad is not enough.
Enjoy your new camper.

RE: Camper Solar Charging results

Wintersun, can you tell us what controller you are using, was you camper prewired for solar from Lance, and did you use the prewire when hooking up your system?
I am building a solar system for my Lance and the whole boiling battery senario is one of my biggest concerns. AMG, wet cell, gel cel, PWM, MPPT, Morningstar, Rogue, Blue Sky, 10, 20, 30 amp controllers, wiring, MC4 connectors, tilting panels, location on roof, 12V panels, 24V panels, amps, watts, volts, temp compensation, remote meter with too much or too litle info, etc. Lots of stuff to learn and try to get right the first time.

RE: Help! Just got my truck camper need advice

The price seems high to me too. I would check with Clearview RV, Apache Campers in S. Everett, & Ryan's RV in S. Everett for their prices. $600 for front mount tiedowns and install where the parts are $250 on Amazon seems high. The local RV shops are not too busy right now and if you know what the prices are on these parts it will help you negotiate the labor.

RE: Help! Just got my truck camper need advice

Congrat's on the camper. Truck/camper combo's are awesome and you have a great platform in your 2006 diesel Ram. You should check your tires and make sure they have at least 3500lbs capacity each.
Look into some Fastgun tiedowns too. Bilstein shocks on your truck make a huge difference in handling with and without the camper.

Looks like a good use of space. I will be doing something similar to our hanging closet this Spring as we don't hang anything in there either.

RE: SRW diesel truck choices

Any one of those trucks will work for your current situation, and you are lucky to get one of the new ones. I would get the Dodge as they actually upgraded their truck frame, axles, and suspension to carry the weight.
You are not committed yet (no money spent) to the 811 and can research campers for the next few years. Spend some time walking thru as many campers as possible. You really only need extra large tanks for long showers and week long trips without hook-ups.

Trailer Brakes 10" Electric Disc

Hello. I have a dual axle trailer with 10" surge drum brakes and would like to upgrade to 10" electric disc brakes. The problem is I can't find anyone who sells or makes a 10" electric disc brake for a trailer. All I can find are 10" electric drum brakes. I called etrailer and they couldn't help. I can find the Titan Brakerite electric over hydraulic systems with 10" hydraulic disc brakes but that is not cheap. Is it the 10" size that is the problem? Anyone go from electric drums to discs? Thanks

RE: Lance 1050S tanks and replacing monitor system

Your camper most likely has the tanks in the basement, and you can remove the bottom of the camper to access the tanks.

BC Canada and truck weight ratings

I saw this mentioned in another post about truck weight ratings and BC Canada stopping truck campers. It appears people have been stopped for being overweight with truck campers in BC and we would like to go camping up there someday. I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 megacab diesel and am over the GVWR with my Lance 830. I have upgraded the weak links (wheels, tires, shocks, sway bar), and the truck handles the load with no issues.
Can I go to the WA State DOL, pay more for a higher GVWR, and will that work for the folks in BC? Anyone tried that before?
I am also interested in hearing from those that have been stopped in BC and what was the outcome --- overweight or not. Thanks
