RE: Midwest campgrounds with boat slips on site ?

I can whole heartily recommend two on the Muskegon River just south of Big Rapids, Michigan. The 18 miles of backwaters from the Hardy Dam make for great boating, skiing, tubing etc. See alot of people fishing also. The first is River Ridge RV Resort. It is upscale but also offers a pool and other ammenties. The second is just a couple miles up river and is the Browers Park. It is a county campground with a boat launch and of course right on the water. Browers Park.
Both websites give good info. We live about 12 miles from both. We've haven't camped at either, but have launched our boat at both facilites and visited both. Great ice cream at River Ridge, the g/kids make us stop every trip!!
Hope this helps!
Just to let you know. i called River Ridge and they dont permit truck campers.Think they MAY have an age limit(10yr old trailers..NOT SURE) thing also. very upscale...looks really nice though.
I have stayed at the county park onwestside of Otsego Lk near Gaylord and liked it. beached the boat, decent launch, showers, elect? There is a state cmpgd on the lake also. nice long lake(enough to land planes), decent fishing...
Bear Cave(yes there is a cool cave!) on the St. Joe river near Niles/Buchanan has nice docks,etc...but i think its a membership campground. Couple of different affiliations. I use my C2C membership.

problem w/ old front window

well it finally happened. i have a broken front window on my old "real-lite" camper. was traveling to Cedar Point in Ohio and a hawk flew up from the road and hit the grill of my truck and hit the window on the camper. Its not broken but has a large star crack. I know i will never find a replacement. . Its NOT a show camper just a beater for weekends snowmobiling, atv, nascar and amusement parks.
wondering what to do to save it?

RE: 1988 sun lite truck camper wiring

running lights arent usually through the converter so maybe its in the pigtail wiring. do you have running light power to the camper? mine has fuses in the camper for all the turn sigs,back-up,running lights.....had to replace a few of my fixtures because of corrosion over the years. do you have any signal lights?
The fridge has a heating element. so you need to see if its getting juice to the element or is it in the switch and/or converter?
interior lights work off of camper batt. also there is a switch on converter for batt power or conv(110v) power. is it switched? my fridge is 3way. gas, batt(switch to batt)m and 110v(switch to convertor). also usually a different dial or switch on fridge for which power you are using.

RE: An amusement park we will never be visiting

If they would have given him free admittance or EVEN someone else paying his way, do you think they would have got any publicity or recognition for the good deed?
Its mostly always the negative side that gets the headlines..........
I would have thought with his disability that they would have checked out rules, etc of the park he was visiting. Its not an automatic "freebie". As a park owner i would have let him in BUT as an employee i would have followed the rules. Its their job on the line also.....
If you make one exception its usually backfires and opens another can of worms down the road.

RE: Steepness of the roads inside The Smokey Mountains NP

only thing i found was that some of the tunnels in the area can be a bit tight. arched and close to the edges. 2 vehicles passing can be quite unnerving...
The drive from Cherokee to Gatlinburg is very nice....was some road construction near the top. Drive was a little rough with the dually w/ stick.

RE: Cedar Point Admission Question

its been that way for a few years now. Im 5' 11" and 270lbs and still ride a few things with the kids but the pickens are getting slimmer. At 225 you should have no problems with most stuff.
I rode Maverick last year at 270lbs. barely fit but FIT. millennium,TTD,mantis are out but i still ride Magnum and Meanstreak and gemmini.......
actually Kings Island is better for us larger people.
also they do know if you are the original user of the passes. must save the first day stub(user ID'd) to be able to get the second day use. We tried once and FAILED!!! You do get discounted tickets at the registration counter if you stay on property.

RE: Tiedowns??

dont think i would over the rockies but my parents did it in the early years with their 1st TC. trust me some sort of frame mounts will make the truck ride much more stable being that you have a single wheel rear axle.
i made mine frame mounts. i have 3 out of the 4 original stake bed mounts from my parents 72 ford f250. kinda funny to think those held that camper over mountains, winds, snows, etc........by the way they are kinda "tweaked".
also double check the fitment to your truck new trucks and old campers dont work well together.
I bought an 85 real-lite(1800lbs empty) and it rides on my 2000 f350 dually. i only have about an 1" fudge factor on all the clearances. had to make extensions to get the jacks out of the way of the dually fenders. had to make jack extensions to get the camper up high enough to clear the foam i used to clear the cab. BUT i got it on.
mine cant move much cause theres no where to go except off the truck!!!!

RE: Coast to Coast Membership

actually we are C2C members. for about 7 years now. we did use it alot at first but recently have gotten rid of our big trailer and use a TC now. we still use it but explore other places along the way( we like the untraveled routes).
we recently have considered selling off our membership since we dont seem to use it much now. was a little pricey at first. The camping deals pay for it eventually if you use it. We just enjoy the parks that can be tough for others to get into(Branson, etc).
Buy it second hand if you can and get a better price. make sure about your home park fees(fixed or adjustable). Thats usually the pricey part for newbies, The home park purchase price. Some memberships are locked in for life unless you sell it off. Make sure you read and understand the contract. Dont list anyone else on your membership because that makes it automatically transfer to them if you die. leaving them responsible for the fees.
some prices can start at $4000 and up. depends on the home park. We have 2 because they are sister parks here in Michigan.

RE: Anybody camp at Cedar Point?

yes that is a spot in the full hook-up sites in Lighthouse Point. these are great sites. also dont always wait on the buses for pick-up. they can take a while sometimes. seems like the hotels get priority.
ask anything you like. I have stayed in both areas. the full hooks are definitely worth the money if you have something more than a truck camper or pop-up. We always ask for a spot up near the pool. The road noise and coaster noise can be annoying but cmon what do you expect....

RE: Anybody camp at Cedar Point?

got my res for an electric only site this time. taking the truck camper this time.
we love it there. Have been to the campground probably 15 times over the years. This is probably our last since youngest is headed to college. This is the last amusement park fling i am beginning to think.
I know pretty much everything thing there is to know about the "Point". just ask for any info you like.

RE: Campgrounds in Ky near I65

We are heading here tomorrow and will stay thru C2C. Description from their website.
Diamond Caverns Resort and Golf Club
1878 Mammoth Cave Pkwy.
Park City, KY 42160
Phone: (270) 749-2891
"Resort Information: Diamond Caverns is located in the heart of Kentucky's famous Land of the Caves region, minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park. There are over 400 miles of mapped passageways in the cave system, according to the National Speleological Society. In addition, nearby activities include boating, fishing, golf, theater, museums, country music shows, horseback riding, theme parks, outdoor dramas and the Kentucky Derby.
Directions: From I-65 near Mammoth National Park, take exit 48. Go north on Hwy. 255 towards Mammoth Cave about 1.4 miles."
Maybe this will help. Good luck.
Thanks. How long are you staying there??
stayed here not more than a year ago. wasnt bad but some sites are a little unlevel(not alot). Roads and sites are mostly gravel. Mini-golf looked like it wasnt used for a few years. Not bad but wouldnt spend a whole vacation here. C2C considers it a deluxe. I thought it looked a little dated not really run down just "dated".
CG is a little older but right across the street is Diamond Caverns. we enjoyed the cave tour although slightly pricey we thought. Mammoth Cave is close. Went in springtime(early) and there were a few empty sites. This is a membership CG w/ affiliation to C2C.. very easy to find and quick highway access.
PS...check-in was across the road next to Diamond Caverns Building
personal rating..... 3 out of 5 stars!!!!!
