RE: Forest River Fifth Wheels

We have a 2005 Wildcat 29RLBS. So far have replaced: the power converter due to voltage surge during thunderstorm. the ac control box The kitchen floor had a cut in it on delivery, but the dealer put glue on it. Not really happy about that. The oak cabinet door fell apart, but I fixed that. put a sidewinder pin box on so I can back it with greater ease with my 6.75 ft truck bed. Replaced tires-maintenance Overall its a good camper, although I wish the trailer's front access door was just a little bit higher off the ground. I am 6'4" tall and standing room is excellent throughout the cabin, although I have to be careful going out the entry door. I would suggest getting same size wheels as your tow vehicle. I am happy the decals are shrinking and coming off.

RE: Tow Haul On or Off??

I use tow/haul mode when pulling 5th wheel trailer. Helps with braking. Helps save my brakes. I have 105,000 miles on my 2005 F250 crewcab 4x4 and I am using my original brakes. Have not had to repair anything on them. I keep my transmission maintenance, etc on schedule. I think tow/haul is one of the best innovations for towing. Cruise control with brake haul is a real mileage killer because the computer does not see the road conditions, so I do not use cruise control when towing.

RE: Factory installed ladder - How much weight can it support?

I weigh 275 lbs and I climb on my FR Wildcat ladder often and when I do, my stretched arms on 6 ft 4 inch nuckehead are grabbing at the side of the first rung with one hand. Never felt like the ladder was close to failing.

RE: using a snake in the black water tank

I heard somebody saying a good way to get rid of clogs in black water tank is to pour a bag or 2 of ice in the toilet with some tank chems before towing down the road and then dumping after all the sloshing of the melted ice. Have not tried this cause I use one of those down the toilet tornado sprayer with full water pressure from the water supply, slong with a fresh batch of chemicals. I do that until my guage reads empty.

securing 5th wheel hitch

Wondering ways to keep scrap metal theives from swiping my hitch. Are there pins with locks to replace the standard hitch rail to hitch pins? Now that I have a bed saver attached to my hitch, I have a lot of money invested and the hitch is quite heavy to be moving from hitch rails to somewhere more secure while trailer at campground and truck is parked along trail elsewhere while I am trying to catch some brown trout all day.

RE: Ouch! $1,047 property tax bill on fiver here in Charlotte!!!

you need to contest that, especially since I am betting your insurance company will not pay you that much in event of total loss.

tire blow out

just the other day I saw pieces of tire on the interstate, then a family with travel trailer assesing the damage on the side of the road about a half mile down the road. First thing that came to mind for me was I wondered if they took time to inspect the tires and pressure for each before towing. I am thinking of getting a gasoline fueled air compressor as a permanent attachment to my tow vehicle.

camping clubs

Other than Good Sam I am not enrolled with the various clubs offering discounts for camping. I guess you get what you pay for. Any comments on Camp Club America or others?

bed saver attachment

how does that bed saver attachment to a fifth hitch work? Does it interfere with hook ups? Is it worth buying?

RE: Anyone else been this stupid.....twice?

yup, I have knocked myself out cold at least once on bedroom slide and at least twice I have taken hits less severe while mowing around trailer when parked at home. I have a love-hate relationship with that slide.

what happened to log out button?

I have been experiencing this condition most times I have logged on and my profile indicates I am on-line: the pages do not show my login name, nor have log out button. I have closed the internet program and re opened and went to open roads forum to see I am still on line.

what next rv should be?

We, wife, me and 2 dogs go in 2005 fifth wheel pulled by 2003 F250 4x4 crewcab. The truck and camper seem fine now, but replacement of truck may be near and if I stay with 5th wheels, my next tow vehicle would likely be a F450. With that much truck, I could go with a larger trailer too, but cost is a major factor. So, I am wondering if anyone has been in similar state of confusion and switched to a class C or B+ or class A. Thanks for any opinyuns.SD

RE: Vehicle towing is this truck big enough?

I doubt it will do so safely or economically for you. I mean, how long do you expect that truck to last you before having to buy another. I pull a Forest River Wildcat 29RLBS with a 2003 6.0 L 4x4 F250 CC, 6.75 ft bed, equipped with suspension certified for slide in camper. I have 105K miles on this truck and still using the original brakes which were recently inspected by the Ford dealer to have plenty of wear remaining. Granted the trailer you refer to as Lite, may be well below the weight I pull. But consider that you might want to travel up or down a mountain with your camper; you might want to pull camper on multi-lane highway where freight haulers will pass you and nearly suck a 1/2 ton truck pulling a 5th wheel out of control for a few seconds. My 3/4 ton truck with extra springs is adequate for my trailer and I would not consider more weight without moving to a dually 3/4 ton. Take what I say as you want. If you don't find some value in what I say, you can always learn from your own mistakes.

RE: water filter replacement cartridges

I bought my replacements from Lowes. They are not the same exact size, but they work fine. There are two sizes at my store and I just bought the one that looked about the same. Much cheaper than at the RV stores too.

type membership?

I am wondering about each of the logins and the title of "new member, senior member, active member,..." etc. I subscribe to Trailer Life magazine and am a member of Good Sam Club. I have been a trailer towing camper since 2000. My age is 56 and I am retired. I do not make many posts. Just curious. Sonny Drake

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch to buy!

I have a regular hitch, with my short bed crewcab, but replaced my pin box with a quick and nimble sidewinder pinbox that changes the pivot point, so I have the advantage a long bed. I can make the same manuevers with backing as those with the long beds and can still paralell park the truck during every day use.
