RE: how to collect gray water from a solar shower?

Ask the Rangers if your in a State Park.
If you use biodegradable soap, I don't see the harm. We all swim in the lakes and rivers so what's the deal with body oils being on the ground. None what-so-ever!
Some people are so paranoid about life in general. :)

RE: Took collar off of Petunia the chi .. harness only

My chi wears a tiny chain around her neck with her tags on it at all times.
When I take her out for walks, she always wears a harness too. I would never drag a chi around by the neck. That would be awful for the tiny creatures. :(

RE: Took collar off of Petunia the chi .. harness only

My girl Isabella does the same thing... starts choking during out-of-control barking episodes. They are such drama queens sometimes. LOL
I just rub her throat until she quits gagging and settles down. Annoying sometimes but you gotta love 'em.
If you get in the habit of removing the collar every time she coughs or gags, she may take advantage of that so she doesn't have to wear a collar. They're very smart dogs.

RE: Gratuitous cool pic post

I've never heard of the movie but I do know Spielberg. Most people keep to a certain genre. I don't really care for thrillers, so there are a lot of movies I haven't heard of. :) LOL

RE: Dogs predict earthquakes? (MYSTERY SOLVED!)

I'm so glad you found that damaged collar for Rosie. Poor little sweetie!
My Isabella (chi) experienced almost the same thing once. She tended toward playing hide-n-seek under furniture with my son's German shepherd and she pulled the O-ring open so it was pricking her. She would yelp whenever she turned a certain way and that's how I found it.
Now I take her collar off every nite before bed and inspect it. Ya never know how things wear until you're wearing it. :(

RE: Dog in 5er?

I agree with sch911.
When we got our 5W, I got in the back and my DH drove over to the nearest gas station and WOW !!!
It was so loud I couldn't hear myself scream. Everything rattled.
Now this was a brand-new, high-end 5W, not something second-hand. It was very scary knowing I couldn't get out while it was moving and this was before we got our first cellphone, so no contact for a 'release'.
I know the dog isn't going to care about contact but I will bet my best baseball cap that your dog will be screaming as loud as I was, wanting out.
You need to take the ride across town in the back and then decide if you would put any living thing back there going across country. :(
p.s. Our salesman suggested not opening vents while driving because it would suck in diesel fumes from trucks along the way. And you can't get diesel smell out of anything. My dad drove truck for 35yrs so I know that's nasty-smelling stuff.

RE: Net help / Ideas from Military Veterans

I would also like to add that the gift cards could be of great value to vets, even to those who have grandkids and great grandkids by now. Christmas & birthdays always seem to warrant something the parents can't give during these stressful days of shopping for school clothes too.
JMO again. :)

RE: Net help / Ideas from Military Veterans

Ya know... I'm not bragging, just want to share.
My family has been in this country since 1647 and one family tree branch fought in EVERY single war this country has even been in or experienced. TRULY!
My son is military right now and when I shared about our history to him, he asked if there were any honorably mentioned. I was proud to say yes but that's not the point.
He wanted to know if there were any heroes in the bunch.
I had to tell him that "They were all heroes to me because they served" and that's truly the way I feel.
So I just want to say to all of those who served "Thank you and welcome home!". Even if you pushed papers across a desk, you served and God bless you for it. Please don't ever feel that any of you have never done enough. Be proud that you served your country and family.
I had 3 brothers and my husband in Viet Nam and I continue to be proud of any and everything they accomplished.
Again... "Thank you and welcome home!"

RE: Net help / Ideas from Military Veterans

Try gift cards at places that offer food and clothing (i.e. Target, WalMart, Costco, etc.)
Make it a considerable sum so it will really be appreciated, say $100-200.
Lots of people are struggling to buy food and clothing for their families right now. I know I would appreciate something like that.
Add a nice card telling them how much you appreciate that they chose your place of business to work. Some people never get recognized for the everyday, tedious work that they do.
I am not a vet but I'm married to one and I come from a loooong line of military vets in my family. We all have large families and when things get tough, the kids are the first to feel the "pinch".

Was out-n-about today and the leaves were flying like crazy all over town here in the SJC California. Might this be a clue to an early Fall?

RE: Question for dr Doug

Whenever I give my dog her heartworm tablet, I use the card that came with the med to write down that the med was taken at such-n-such time and date directly after I give it to her.
I keep a running tab and it also reminds me to order new when I have only one tab left.
I have a bad memory so I write everything down. :D
Just wanted to share.

RE: Car sick dog

You should never give people meds to dogs (unless prescribed by a vet). It could kill them.
1. Don't feed your dog at least 2hrs before travel.
2. Give ginger cookie 10min to boarding (according to size of pet). One for large, 1/2 for medium, & 1/4 for small pet.
3. Tiny sip of water to wash it down.
4. Good to go!
Smart dogs usually know when owner is getting ready to go somewhere and they will NOT eat automatically because they're usually excited to go too.
At least mine doesn't eat when she sees me getting ready to go out. :)

RE: what to do?

When I wasn't able to take my dog with me, I would board her.
I would never leave any domestic animals in my yard or garage overnight because we live less than a mile to a big river.
Sometimes raccoons come to raid the garbage cans when left out for pick-up day. We have also found opossums running the fence-lines along yards.
Dangerous for domestics. :(

RE: People who insist "greeting dog to dog" ... ??

OMGoodness! We took my chihuahua to a dog park once and the smell of urine/poo in the area was so strong, I was gagging. I don't know how anyone can breathe in that environment. Nasty! :(

RE: Did I break the law in Texas.

Crossing borders is a no-no with produce and plants. It could spread disease. And taking natural rock, plants and/or animals from their places of origin could possibly damage/deplete the evironment unknowingly.
I think that's why film was invented, so we could record what we've seen.
Usually when we are in a vacation/resort area, there are souvenir shops around that would possibly sell those kinds of things, if they're availble. If not, then it's probably safe to say "you can't take it with you".
This has been my experience anyway. :)
