RE: Afton Canyon San Bernardino County California

Did you get any sleep with the trains going past?
Sleep all night. Didn't know the trains went through the night.
I read others complained about the trains, but no bother to us.

RE: how accurate are the NADA prices?

When I sold my 1994 Skyline the book value showed to be under $2000. I had it listed for $3500 for quite sometime. I new that there was not many other TC available in the area. I had some look at it and tell me I was to high and tried to low ball me. I was in no hurry to sell for the first few months. I new from the research I had been doing for TC available in our area that someone that really was interested in buying would spend what the real value is of the camper.
Now back to the book value. I could have parted it out and made more money than book value. I feel that as something gets to be quite older
(boat, car, rv)if they are still in good, clean, usable condition there is a point where the real value starts to hold position to a point.

Afton Canyon San Bernardino County California

Spent last weekend camping and exploring the canyon. Very cool place hidden in the desert. About 5miles off of I15 between Baker and Barstow. Gravel road was very passable, washboard in spots although. No problem in any vehicle to the campground. Past the campground will require 4x4.The campsites are set up for mostly 30' or less but there are some deeper spots for up to 35'MH. Facilities where pretty nice for being in the middle of nowhere. Bathrooms are new and clean. I saw one water spicket at the entrance. Sites have BBQ, Cement Pic Tables with covers, and fire pit. We took our Ranger with so we could explore the canyon and surrounding area. The 2 water crossings where no problem. Both have gravel bottoms. Some areas in the canyon are sandy and could need 4x4.
We were the only ones there in on Thur and couple others showed up on the weekend. Defiantly will return again.
Heading to Hole in the Wall campground this weekend.

RE: Parking RV at Fishermans Warf

Thanks Busscut1
We took your advise. We parked at the park for 2 nights. I checked with some workers in the park about staying there and they said as far as they know it was OK.
Late in the after noon of the second day SF Police pounded on the door and said they had a complaint that we had been living in the park for a couple wks. Ha Ha Ha, thats funny I told him. Discussed with him what we where doing and he said enjoy your stay. He reassured us that we could stay there as long as we were tourist.
Work out great, road our bikes 2miles to the warf, locked them up and walked around.
We did park for a short time in the Boudin Parking lot on the morning of our departure. We had to pick up some last minute items. Parking available here 24hrs aday for up to a midsize motor home.
$3 for every 20min. Max. $33 between 6am and 12midnight. $15 to spend night from midnight to 6am.

RE: Traveling to San Francisco from Vegas

Update on travel through Yosemite to San Fran.
Stayed at Lower Shady State Park. Very nice park we thought.
Driving through Yosemite was $20 and took 8hrs to get to San Fran. Didn't think about traffic being so bad heading home from holiday weekend.

Thanks for the ideas
I did not mention one thing that would restrict us from taking a shuttle or BART. We have 3 small furry kids that will be tagging along. They ride in there stroller.

RE: Traveling to San Francisco from Vegas

jefe
According to mapquest it is about 10hr trip through Mammoth Lakes. We are wanting to camp somewhere around there or Yosemite and continue onto San Fran from there. Mapquest says 5.5 hrs to Mammoth Lakes. Are these times not close to the real time.
Thanks

Parking RV at Fishermans Warf

We are going to be in San Francisco for a day. Is there any parking areas near Fishermans Warf for TC? I am willing to pay for 2 parking spots if need be.

Traveling to San Francisco from Vegas

Traveling from Vegas to San Francisco Labor Day Weekend. We are wanting to drive through Mammoth Lakes and Yosmite. Don't have time to spend time there, but need to know of places to stay over night.
Also, what is the charge to just drive through Yosemite?
Thanks
