RE: diferent smart phones

This is a Chevy vs ford thing. Get whichever phone feels good to you. I have a Motorola razr currently and would not buy another currently. But they change phones on a daily basis, so you never know. I will say my razr can take multiple drops onto concrete floors without major damage and no case or screen protector. 2 gb doesn't last long on 4g. I'm around 20gb a month myself. But if you aren't a power user then who knows.... Apple vs droid thing is not a huge deal in my book. Get whatever seems good for you. I have iPads and MacBooks, but prefer droids for phones currently. But that could change in future too.

RE: gas milage

BTW I don't generally get better mpgs with a certain brand, though I tend to favor shell gas if prices are the same as the place across the street. BUT I will say my mpgs SUFFER greatly when using gas bought on an Indian reservation. Even with Indian gas being way cheaper it still doesn't come out better in a cost per mile.I guess that depends on the indian reservation. Have heard the same thing here, but my car's engine (both cars) can't tell the difference. By the way, before I retired from hauling fuel, I loaded side by side the rigs that hauled the "indian res" gas and can say for sure that the gas was the same gas that the off res stations got. The only difference was tax on it. But my cars can tell the difference between regular (with ethanol) and premium (without ethanol). The Honda much prefers the premium, gaining 6 mpg and the Ford only gains 2 mpg. I quit making special trips to the Res and buy my gas where ever I need it. My motorhome does not use gas. The worst reservation I have found ( and I have stopped using Indian gas if I can help it), has actually been in western NYS. The Seneca nation in Salamanca NY. My gasser pickup gets about 3 mpgs worse and my diesel pickup gets about 5 mpgs worse with any of the fuel on that reservation. There is only 2 or 3 places that sell diesel in Salamnaca and they are all bad. Last trip out I was able to fill the diesel up at the last Ohio stop on 90 and was able to nurse that tank until I headed back home. The prices for any fuel in NYS are stupidly high. Same gas and diesel that you buy at Exit 218 in Ohio, and it isn't a indian station there. But you have to remember that the indian stations do not fall under state law for weights & measures. So if I fill up at the res. and drive say 400 miles and then refill and calculate my mpgs, and it comes up way lower than normal, how does that have anything to do with the weights and measures?? If the tank is full, and I drive a ways and refill, the fact is I used x amount of fuel to drive x amount of miles.

RE: gas milage

Premium gasoline does have a slightly higher BTU content than regular but the difference in mileage is virtually undetectable. If your engine is tuned for the better gasoline using regular could impact mpg as the electronic ignition may need to retard the spark to prevent detonation (knock sensor). Premium gasoline (branded) has a better detergent package and you would gain some benefit from cleaner injectors, etc. Premium actually has LOWER btu than regular. Regular burns hotter and faster. Only difference I've ever seen in mpgs from different gas blends is between using gas with some ethanol vs 100% straight gas. Straight gas will give a little better mpgs generally. But as with anything related to mpgs its almost impossible to get a perfect apples to apples comparison.

RE: Curious about maintenance...

I co all my own maintenance on everything I own. I also do my own repairs. If it has factory warranty and its free if the dealer fixes it, then that's the only time someone touches my stuff. Otherwise I have no faith in any dealership anywhere.

RE: Internet Movies Q?

Then after that your data speed (if you are on a so called unlimited data plan) will be cut back so slow that it will be useful for reading email and very little else. This is simply incorrect. We have an unlimited plan and have used as much as 20 GB in a month without any throttling. Verizon had previously said that throttling, if it occurred, would only be on towers that were overloaded. If you don't have an unlimited plan there is no reason for the carrier to throttle you since they are making money by charging you for excess data. We routinely stream movies when we have 4G/LTE connections. X2. Never been throttled and go over 20gb often. I'm not even sure they bother with throttling at all anymore.

RE: K&N Filters

It doesnt go through the filter but past it. The newer ones dont seem to have the problem the older ones did. So right answer. Ok, you obviously don't know what you are talking about, so I will just drop it.

RE: K&N Filters

Polaris RZR's pass dirt no matter what filter so you cant blame the K&N on that. But i can say that a K&N is the only filter that i have used that let dirt through the filter. And for those that say it wasnt oiled right, ask K&N because it was a new one oiled from the factory. Wrong answer. I own a rzr and no dirt passes through with my paper filter. But I agree, k&n are junk for actual filtering.

RE: K&N Filters

No Kool Aid here. I had my friend who is an authorized Land Rover mechanic (plus yes, he works on Fords and Chevys, etc) tell me that K&N filter use is almost always detected by the burned filter oil inside the filter case. And that K&N does in fact, screw up an MAF. For my Land Rover, I'm going to listen to the certified technician whos been working on Rovers for 12+ years. He has no angle. WoodGlue Never seen any engine failures, MAF sensor issues in 20+ years of being a tech. sounds like your friend may be exaggerating a bit on the problems he has seen. If you have never heard of an engine failure because of use of a k&n filter, you should check out the polaris rzr forums. To many failures to count.

RE: Bio diesel question

Lubricity and water content are a krap shoot when it comes to BioDiesel - some good but some sources are very bad. Bosch limits your use to B5 or B10 and since it costs many thousands to replace all affected parts, there's no way I would risk it. Unless someone tries making bio with gas or paint thinner, lubricity is going to be much higher than usld at any station.

RE: Bio diesel question

Bio will work fine. It does in my 05 ctd also. But I do get slightly worse mpgs with bio. Many people make their own 100% bio and run it without problems. I don't carry a spare filter and haven't had any "bio cleaning" yet. But I do know that bio does clean out fuel systems, i just think it needs to be more than b5 or even b20, unless ran every tank.

RE: Running diesel overnight to stay warm

I wonder what the fuel to air ratio is on a diesel at idle? I would think it is extremely lean, very little fuel. Anyone know?

RE: Ram Hemi fuel mileage

2005 hemi quad cab 1500 4wd. Highest ever seen was 19 mpg. Usually it's 16-17 mpg. Those are both highway. Mixed is 13-14 winter, maybe 15 in summer. Heaviest ever towed was around 2000 lbs in a brick shaped trailer. Got around 10 IIRC. We have 3.42 or whatever the gears are around there for dodge. Truck has good power, but mpg isn't all that great. Dad has a 06 1500 that gets even worse mileage with 3.92.

RE: Do I Really Need 4x4 when towing in the mountains?

People who need the 4x4 have always done a poor job in all there work and in life, so a 4x4 is like training wheel for them. They feel safer. Kinda like standing next to daddy leg when you were little. You must have some really low self esteem. To bash people on most every thread you join in is pathetic. But on the bright side, there is help. Check into a mental health facility. You don't need to finish your life living this way. They can help you feel better, and restore your self respect. Who knows, maybe someday you can actually give some worth while input on an Internet forum. You will be fine, just find 4" of snow and go hit it hard and you can get to the fishing hole anyway. Kinda difficult to hit it hard when I don't have a "supercharged" engine. But then again, I don't have "little man syndrome" either..... Have a nice day, pal. HahaI understand, I have some friend from Wis. they are trying to get out to. Hey bud, no reason to get all frustrated. Your grammar is starting to suffer as well. Maybe you should step back, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Usually it helps calm people down. I just hope for your sake, it helps. No need to bottle up all your anger and frustrations. There are safe and sane ways of coping.

RE: 2000 Dodge 5.9 Cummins programmer

More than likely your trans is going to need help. I am a user of programming and performance stuff, and I had a 2000 5.9 also. The trans was built pretty stout, billet torque converter, billet shafts, etc, and I still wreck the trans. But I had ALOT of power adders. If you go with an edge box or something like that, you will probably need a GOOD converter, along with it least a shift kit/valve body upgrade. And unless your current trans is near perfect, you should probably freshen it. If you are only looking for around 60hp or under, you at minimal should have a shift kit/valve body. But strongly recommend a t/c also. That era dodge trannys were pretty weak.

I put a k&n filter on my exhaust pipe when I go into town. My little way of saving the planet.

RE: Is this only an Arizona issue ????

Like many here, I hate to have my truck "dinged" in a parking lot.... as such, I usually park in the "North 40" of any parking lot I inhabit. Do not mind the hike into the store even in the low 120's (lie). But, we have a phenomenon here that no matter how far out I park , when I return to my Truck, sure enough, right next to me sits a 4 door truck panel chipper. Just to test my theory... last week... put my sun shade up, and sat in the truck...in less then 5 minutes some Romeo and Juliet in a miniature Datsun with a fart pipe pulled up right next to me , blown bass speakers just a vibratin'... honestly, 75% of the lot was empty.... Does this only happen in Arizona ??? Charles My answer to this problem is to park next to cars that are nicer than mine. I'm sure they don't want door dings either....
