RE: Leaking intake manifold

rgatijnet1 I disabled the fuel pump, removed the distributor cap and wires, also plugs with throttle wide open. Then started from cylinder #1 thru #8 and those were the # for each of the cylinders. STBRetired The motor has 70,000 I find it hard to beleave a total rebuild, for the buget what is that? the children of mine are constanly robbing my wallet they tell me all the time that's what there here for.I don't have have a leak down tester at the moment but will probably add it to my tool box

well I guess a tear down of the heads are in order. Because from the right side #1 cylinder the reading's are 120 , 110 , 80 , 120 ,and left side # 5 cylinder 130 , 120 , 70 , 110 , that is if I did it right wot.

RE: Leaking intake manifold

Okay I have a question! if the intake gasket is shot! I know it is because it's leaking oil from the front and back ! Will a compression check be nill ? I mean will it gave an accurate measurement?

RE: Leaking intake manifold

I am hoping this weekend in between my children's sports activity's I can at lest do a compression test.I am still crossing my finger's that it's the intake and not the head but there's only one way to find out....jump in....

RE: Leaking intake manifold

Thanks for the reply rgatijnet1 and RLS7201 I don't think I will be able to tear down the motor any time soon with winter coming upon us. Do you think I should drain all the milky oil now so I don't do any damage too the bearing in the mean time. I'm thinking with the anti freeze mixed with the oil that's a bad combination. I am not planing on starting the motor any time before the repair's are done it's off for the winter battery's have been pulled already. Then when I do get a chance to do any work the oil will be clean.

Leaking intake manifold

Hello I have a 1988 gulfstream sunvista hi rise on a john deere chassis with a 460 ford motor. Over this past spring while on a trip I found the oil was leaking from the rear and front of the intake manifold. I have purchased all new gasket's and was going to repair while laid up for the winter. The question I have is CAN anti freeze get into the oil from the intake? The reason I ask is I just started the coach to charge battery's and it seemed to be smoking a little bit more then normal so I shut it down and checked the oil and found it milky. Could it be the head gasket? I did over heat the coach on the trip the radiator hose blow out I fixed it on the road topped it all off no anti freeze leak's just oil as stated .Made it back home and just been sitting sense. I am hoping it's just the intake and not the head's..... any help??

RE: tires date ????

I want to thank every one for helping me with my tire date issue. Good thing I looked at them for next season this was a very unexpected issue. I find it hard to believe these tires are that old from the condition of them but it is what it is.Do any of you think I can get away with just replacing the front steer tires seeing how my trips are local like 150 mile radius or just bit the bullet come spring.

RE: tires date ????

I"m very sorry I meant week not month .Owning a class A motorhome is all new to me.I have been out injured all summer and not been able to use coach cause wife will not drive it to big (to nervous). So I am trying to make a list of things to get done on it over the winter. So when the snow melt's I can just jump in and go..The tire's were #1 on the bucket list don't want any thing happening to my loving family.

tires date ????

Hello, I have been reading through the forum and keep coming across tire date's . The 1988 gulfstream coach I purchased a year ago the tire's look great no cracks or wear on the tire's they look brand new. So today I went out and looked at (1) tire driver's front the date code on them was 169. If I'm reading them right is original I did not find any dot stamps on any of the other tire's. would the date be before dot stamp or after? I say this because there is a (4) # code 1114 then dot stamp.

RE: Cluster of fuses have been rerouted......help !!!!

If I'm reading this right in your fuse panel one side of the bank is working and the other side is not correct? In side the coach you should have switches for the coach battery and the chassis battery are they both on when you test the fuses ?

RE: diesel fuel leak

On my last two diesels, if I topped it off during the summer, both would expand enough to leak out the over flow tube. I could lay on my back underneath the coaches and see where it was coming out of the tubes. why in the ell would there be a overflow tube on a fuel tank? For the same reason there is an overflow tube in your radiator. When 150 gallons of fuel gets hot it expands...has to go some where. quote===x2

RE: diesel fuel leak

what is the temp where you are? If you fill your tank to the max and sitting unlevel and it's very warm out the fuel will expand so most likely it's the vent.IMHO I would take it for a good ride and burn off a little fuel.

RE: older gulfstreams

Well I guess my 1988 sunvista high rise is the only one on the plant so it must be worth millions . Just kidding I had purchased this unit the same time late last year and been working on the coach making it more modern fluff and buffing it. In the rear there are 2 bench seats which was an opption at the time and a fold down table that make a bed (not very comfortable) I would like to remove and put a king size bed. I was wondering if anyone has one like this ? The only reason I ask is because on the driver side the generator and fuse panel is located under that bench. So if I remove the bench how would I cover them and still be able to walk around the bed. I have done the bathroom over ,new shower ,shower door, granite counter, wife is in the process of picking out tile for the back splash,.I have also put new 3/4 tung a grove red oak flooring and carpet.out side window awnings and leveling system, satellite system. After I figure out the rear bed room I will be put in kitchen counter,w/granite and back splash tile there also.
