RE: Dry Ice in Non-Working Fridge

Dry Ice is particularly useful for freezing, and keeping things frozen because of its very cold temperature: -109.3°F

RE: Our New 5th Wheel

Good luck with your choice. I have no opinion about your RV, but next time ask the question before you purchase. I am sure that you will not have buyers remorse.

RE: Curb jumping options

Just stack planking parallel with curb creating a set of steps with each step being 8-12 inches wide.

RE: Trip Planning Spreadsheet

Our RV trips generally span 3-4 months and 5-8,000 miles with 35-40 different campground stops. I developed an Excel spreadsheet to help plan and record our trips and will share it with anyone who wants it. The neat thing is that you enter your arrival date and days to stay at the first stop, then enter the days to stay at each subsequent stop. The spreadsheet calculates the arrival and departure dates, and days of the week, at each stop. If you change the days to stay at one place, the following dates and days are recalculated. There are also fields to compute gas mileage and record campground expenses. It's not very sophisticated but does require a little Excel savvy. If you'd like it, send me a PM with your E-Mail address and I'll send it to you.
I use Streets and Trips to do my planning, I copy the trip to a spreadsheet, delete all the in between driving directions and add a column for the date. This week we leave and need to be at a wedding in two weeks, by adjusting the start time, it gave us the correct date for the wedding and when we will be stopping to see 7 relatives and friends on a 6000 mile route. Of course like most plans 15 minutes on the road will change all that. The nice thing is that this includes addresses and phone numbers too.

RE: Joshua Tree NP Closed Due to Graffiti

Graffti has been going on since man found out he could draw with charcoal or scratch stone, now it is too easy however with spray paint and magic markers. Funny we have traveled lots of miles just to look at some of that ancient graffiti, will our ancestors do the same?

RE: A warning about your Sleep Number Bed

portscanner made some good comments. I will add a personal comment about going from 1200 to 8000 elevation. Check the mustard bottle too. Stopped to eat at a park, shook the mustard and when I opened it, it sprayed mustard all over.

RE: Why truckers don't like RVers

This is all about courtesy on the road or at the pumps. At some truck pumps there are signs telling you to pull ahead, you would think that RV'ers would apply that principle to ALL pumps.
Another grip is that often there is only one diesel pump at the car islands and it is a combo gas & diesel, more than once there has been several cars occupying that spot with all the rest of the island open or nearly so.

RE: Unique Places to Eat GPS

Thanks to the responses and suggestions. I have done the POI factory search and used yelp & TripAdvisor in the past and currently, but was looking for that list of unique dining places.

Unique Places to Eat GPS

There are plenty of POI Files for all the chain restaurants, but a few years ago there was one that was for unique or special places to dine out. I thought I had it but can not find it. Is there anyone that has a link to something like this concept?
Thank you

RE: 3/4 ton vs 1 ton ride

I would say the longer the truck, in general the smoother the ride. Duallys probably will ride smooth due to more rubber on the road riding over bumps more easily. Longer trucks are also heavier, damping the bumps. That is why the loaded truck rides more smoothly.

RE: Style Question

Well, we prefer to camp in state and federal parks, and like the idea of NO lights in those areas.

RE: Slide-out braces / use or not?

May not be the same, but one winter the slide out switch went bad and I hadn't locked the slide and when I hooked up the power the slide began going out, and I wound up having to crank it back in by hand. If the slide would have been locked the slide wouldn't have moved, but the breaker would have blown. I ALWAYS lock it down now.

RE: Fifth Wheel Clearance

My tonneau cover set up 2 inches too, so i took a hacksaw to it and cut 4 1/2 ft of the back end, and bolted the front end to the box and used the clamps on the back pieces. Takes about 2 minutes each to put on or take off. This is a rollup cover.

RE: Flush nearly empty black water tank or not?

Dump it and add 5 gallon of water to keep it from drying out. For the odor check the vent, maybe birds are bees built a nest in it.

RE: What's the trick to cleaning black tank level indicators

I've used the black tank flush fitting built in on the trailer for 20 minutes each time after dumping black. At 5 gallon per minute, do you realize that you are using in the neighborhood of 100 gallons of mostly likely fresh drinkable water to rinse a 35-50 tank. A recent PBS show had some people in India using about a gallon a day for ALL uses.

RE: Where Do You Place Your Trash Can Or Bag?

We attached a couple of cup hooks to one of the lower doors and fasten plastic bags to them. More cup hooks holds keys and anything else that can be put on them, except cups.

RE: Some tips for driving on the Interstates

I might add keep 1 to 2 miles per hour under the traffic in your lane. This will almost automatically give you space in front of you as passing vehicles are pulling away from you. It also allows others to plan their passing of you. The only time I try to match traffic is in heavy traffic in town.
Less than 10% of our RV driving is on interstates. Even going through States like Iowa,Kansas & Nebraska those two lanes are so much more scenic and interesting.

RE: Operate refrigerator while driving?

Never run the refrigerator while driving, Eight hours between hookups will keep food from warming, unless you are getting food and drink out often.

RE: Selecting a 5ver For Double Tow

You will need a pretty good horse to pull a heavy duty 5ver and trailer. Stay away from crew cabs with long boxes, and keep the RV under 30ft.
