RE: sewer solutions and RV pump
I disagree with many of thes answers you have received. The answer is yes, it is enough pressure. I've done it for years. I have mine set up so that if I go to a dump and there is no water available, I can hook it up to my compartment outdoor shower faucet, with the use of a couple of backflow preventors in line. I use my onboard water to macerate and then to flush the tank. It works fine - no problem.

It is under electric stoves.
Electralog Item 112939 model cs1205.
I bought this same one today at Lowes. It's the smallest I've seen, which works great in the MH. It's amazing how well they can simulate real flames. Great deal for $99.
RE: Good Sam No-Assistance!!!
Not long ago I had a blowout on a Sunday night in the middle of nowhere in my MH. Good Sam ERS answered and took care of me. I don't think they close. I can't talk bad about them. They have come through every time for me and my family.
RE: Aircard with router
The only downside to the MyFi (the reason I did not go that route)is there is no connector for an external antenna. I have an antenna on the roof of the motorhome that goes to an amplifier, which goes to the aircard, which is plugged into the router. You can't do that with the MyFi, so if that's not an issue for you, then MyFi is a good deal.
RE: Can you use the leveling jacks for tire removal?
Sheeeesh!!! What happened to Safety First? Any jack system out there will lift the coach front, rear, side off the ground and any damn fool can roll, crawl or otherwise get under the respective unit to work on it and the majority of the time he/she will get away with it.
Remember the majority of these units are hydraulic and a hose can let go. If there are people inside someone or an animal can inadvertently trip the switch releasing pressure and letting the vehicle drop. If the jacks are electric they can both electrically or mechanically fail.
If you want to get under a rig up on jacks then have it blocked with jack stands, wood blocks, etc. Donot use cement/concrete blocks as they will disentegrate under compression and the load will fall.
In this day and time of increased safety awareness in the work place and with OSHA and greedy lawyers and law suits any employer that allows his people to work on unsupported equipment has his rear end hanging out a mile. And any of those who just simply do their own work whether at home or at the side of the road, you have have your rear end hanging out a mile as well. The Name Of The Game Is SAFETY FIRST. NOTHING ELSE COUNTS. Do you really want to see your life flash in front of your eyes as your motorhome crushes the life out of you??
Remember this is the vehicle that you have insisted on having nothing but the best in maintenance including fuel, filters, oil, parts and on and on. Why not the best for you, it's owner?? Safety must be first.
The only time I have to get under an RV when changing a tire is to put a jack in place. Using the onboard jacks, I don't have to get under it at all.
Dutch
I agree. The OP asked about changing a tire using the jacks. I have done it several times and never had to get under the rig.
RE: Can you use the leveling jacks for tire removal?
I've done it several times. But I have 16" wheels on my MH, so it's not too tough to change. I don't know if I would want to do it with larger wheels. I also have duallys and a tag, so at least on the rear there are other tires to catch it if something happened to the jacks. I put something under the frame after lifting the front end.
RE: Fulltiming and State Farm auto insurance
Crazy Ray, I see ya'll are from Monroe. My sticks were in Tallulah, right down the road from you, and my present State Farm agent is in Monroe. (small world)
See ya down the road!
RE: Fulltiming and State Farm auto insurance
I talked to my mail service, American Home Base, and they told me that the State Farm agent that they used to recomend there was not writing any new policies now, something to do with the aftermath of Katrina. I think I'll take your advice and talk to National Interstate, as I know they won't be a problem. I have to deal with them anyway to change my MH policy to fulltimers. It's just that I have been with SF for about 35 years. But it's a new phase in my life - I'm ready for changes!
RE: Fulltiming and State Farm auto insurance
I think some are still misunderstanding me. I know that my toad has nothing to do with fulltimers insurance. I just wanted to know if State Farm would deny me coverage on my car if they knew that my street address was not really my physical address and that I would not be residing in Florida. I just wanted to know if I should be up front or evasive on that. If someone had experience with State Farm on this and knew that there might be a problem, then I could start shopping for a company that didn't have a problem with it (by asking here on the forum what companies fulltimers use that will work).
RE: Fulltiming and State Farm auto insurance
Let me clarify something. I have my motorhome insured with National Interstate, which does do fulltimers. My question is about insurance for my toad. I have used State Farm for 30 years, but will change if I need to. But the question is just for the car. So does State Farm not insure an auto for a fulltimer?
Fulltiming and State Farm auto insurance
I procrastinated a long time, but am finally getting my Florida domicile set up. I have my mail service set up. It appears that the next steps, in order, should be auto and MH insurance changed to Florida, then registration, then drivers license. Please let me know if that's not correct. Anyway, I have used State Farm Insurance for many, many years. I was wondering if State Farm would be alright with the new domicile setup. (EDIT: speaking only about the toad insurance - not the MH) If I call an agent in Florida where my mail service is and tell them I have moved there and give them my new "street address", do I need to avoid divulging the fulltiming status? I would think they would have a problem with me normally being away from Florida. When they tell me to come on in, I'll have to tell them that I'm not in Florida now, but needed to go on and get my insurance set up. I am just wondering if I should be straightforward with them, or try to mislead them about my domicile status? And I don't want to have a problem later, after an accident, where they refuse payment because I did not divulge my real status. Do they care about that? Anyone have any problems with State Farm and fulltiming or is this not a problem? Thanks.
Florida domicile
A couple of months ago, someone said in a post:
"I guess you guys havent been keeping up with the florida residency threads. Come Oct. if you plan on having a florida drivers license (at renewal time) you'll need a physical address, AND proof you actually live there."
I also remember another post that said the costs for tags, registration, etc, would be doubling in Florida real soon.
I'm wanting to get my residency in Florida now and wondering if anyone knows about any changes that would affect establishing a domicile in Florida.
Need help from the DC experts
In my motorhome I was pulling a ladder out of a compartment with the compartment lights on. The ladder was stuck in another item and I had to pull hard to get it out. While doing that, it caught the DC light, popped the cover off, and broke the bulb. All of the compartment lights turned off at that time. Then I noticed that my "battery switch light was out. Messing with the switches by the door, I realized that if all 4 items were turned off at the switch, my battery light would come back on. The four toggle switches by the door are: compartment lights, step on/off, 1 living room ceiling light, and outside light. Those 4 things don't work at all now. And if I turn any of those switches on, the battery connected light turns off. I turn that switch back off and the red light comes back on. And, as I stated, none of the 4 items energize. I can't imagine how breakin a DC bulb could do this. Since I have no wiring diagram of the MH, I don't know where to start troubleshooting the problem. But I need these things to work, so I'm hoping someone here has an idea of what the ultimate problem may be. Any thoughts .......?
RE: Need advice on verizon evdo modem and router choice
I could have saved money going to the 3gstore, but I was impatient. I wanted it today. After doing a search here last night and reading many posts, I decided on the Cradlepoint MBR1000 with the USB760 modem. Verizon could not supply the router I wanted, so I stopped by Best Buy and they had it. Cost me about $50 more than the 3gstore. But I picked it up on the way to the verizon store. Verizon got me going already. I just finished setting the modem up on my laptop and using it right now. I now have to get the router set up. I was so glad to find out that verizon now covered this area with their broadband. I've waited too long for Sprint to het it here. I may could have used my old KR1 router, but it IS several years old, so I was ok to buy a new one. The 760 has the connection for the external antenna, so I may need another adapter for that connection. But I'm now happy as a pig in ....... a broadband area. This forum was a great help. Someone mentioned the MiFi and Verizon tried to push that, but it does not have the external antenna connection. But I'm up and running. Thanks to all.
Need advice on verizon evdo modem and router choice
I presently use sprint for my broadband internet. I have an external antenna connected to a 3 watt amp, which is connected to a pcmcia modem, which is plugged into a Kyocera Kr1 router. This works great at my northern location, but the southern area in which I reside for the winter is not in the sprint broadband area. I found out that verizon has broadband in both places. So I need to switch to verizon. I'm willing to give up the old pcmcia-only router and buy a new modem and router. What do you verizon users use? I'm sure most use USB modems now. My main requirement is the external antenna connection to utilize my antenna and amplifier. Any suggestions or should I just call verizon and try to find somebody there that knows something about this?
RE: Momma told me there would be days like this.
I'm still in Minnesota also, about 45 miles NW of Minneapolis. I have to wait a couple more weeks before heading south. I hope it won't get too bad in that time. The snow on the ground this morning really made me nervous. I think it's going to snow again tonight! But I'll be gone soon !!!
RE: A (possibly dumb) cold tire pressure question
Hi,
I would not want to run full tire inflation pressure during the winter. This is because you can get slightly better traction IF you have a slightly lower tire pressure and softer tire.
Yet if you have the tires full, then they will tend to be hard, and not give as much traction.
If you are going to pull a load, and be at the maximum weight, then inflate to the minimum cold pressure stated on the sidewall.
By the way, do you know the maximum pressure? The maximum pressure is 10 PSI higher than the minimum pressure listed on the sidewall.
Fred.
Fred,
I've never seen a tire with the MINIMUM pressure on the sidewall, it's always the MAXIMUM pressure, IMHO.
I've been wondering the same thing. I have seen several posts that say the psi on the sidewall is minimum pressure. But the Firestone Transforce HT 235/85R16 tires that I just put on my coach say 80 psi MAX. The last tires said the same. I also have never seen one say minumum. What's the deal?
