RE: Is this a pretty good one?

Pass on this , while not clear it most likely has an ATOM processor which is seriously underpowered for most computer functions. Spend a 100 more or even slightly more and get a real Intel or AMD preferable dual core or dual processor computor. I've seen some in the 300 dollar range. Also if you have young eyes the small 10 inch screen may be simply OK but get a 15 inch will serve you better. Try Best Buy or Dell Outlet, shop the black Friday specials.
FYI just sold a computer exam center with 20 computers, network, computer server and all the stuff to operate it. Good biz for 14 years! We used a lot of computers with a Celeron chip from Intel ( now obscelete) which would be a major step up from a ATOM. Atom is an Intel chip but very low computing output.

RE: Homemade yeast rolls recipe that is easy.

Shortie, printed it out, gave to DW. BTW, she is only person I've heard of that has worn-out two bread machines. Her Stolen Bread is famous in this part of the world. We will be having fresh rolls for Dinner right soon.
Thanks

RE: NASCAR does it again

Lost a lot of interest when the COT was introduced, all the cars are the same, it produces boring racing. Only excitment is a accident, and I really hate to see them. Sundays fuel race was only interesting portion of the race.
I would like to see a real Ford,Chevy or Toyota car with full factory engineering backing. Set up simple standard of engine size, total mimium weight then leave it up to factory or owner to determine how to win races. Anyone remember the old Indy races with diesel engines? Then NASCAR would really help put a better product on the road for us to buy.

RE: What The Best Overall Knife To Use.

The best shape of the knife is one you handle best. Due to my DW professional career we have a number of knives, chef, snatore(spelling), bread, filet etc. The only requirement is a SHARP knife, so buy a sharping steel. We second the recommendation to buy from a real resturant equipment supply house ( yes they will sell to you) and they will teach you how to "steel" the edge to keep it sharp.

RE: Never brined a bird but....

I hope you like a "salty" bird, for brining will certainly increase the sodium content of the bird. I know, I know "they" say it doesn't increase the salt in the bird but think about it for a moment. You soak the bird in salt water for a day?
BTW, my DW is a dietitian and University Prof, she will not brine any food.
Also, if anyone at the dinner has a heart or blood pressure problems they should be warned about the brining prior to serving it. They may want to select some other entre rather than blow their BP to the roof.

RE: Help me decide on a car

My wife votes with her Hyundia Sonata 2006. We travel a lot in it and have put 70k on it already. Not one problem! The V6 gets 25 to 27 at home (we live in a gated community about 10 miles south of Granbury) and 32 on the road( we typically set CC at 70). The car is very comfortable a has more usable space than a friends Lincolin. With five guy in it they are all fine but if you are the middle of rear seat in the Lincolin you are in leg misery.
Sonata has Electronic Stability Control, Traction control, disc brakes around, 10 airbags, extrememely good radio, and it will cost you about 21k. It has 10 year 100k warranty. Quality and fit and finish are excellent. Car has a finished look and feel.
Real question is would I buy one for my own use: Absolutely!!!!!

RE: Engine misses then quits when hot 454

I had same problem with my '86 Sportcoach, did pumps, lines, cool air intake but finally found a new ignition module was breaking down due to heat. As long as we were cruising all was fine but climbing steep hills or mountain grades the module would break down. Let sit and cool and it started right up. Young Hispanic Tech told me his Grandfather trained him on 454 and he advised me to change module. I did and no problem since.

RE: Atlanta airport 1956

What memory trip!! I interviewed in the Eastern brick building in May 1954 for ramp service job in BHM. In 1960 I was assigned to ATL as a Line Mechanic. I remember taxiing Martin 404's, DC7's and Connie's into the old wooden gates at the temporary Terminal. Later we moved to the New Terminal and the maintaince Office was Concourse B slightly beyond to the West the second story of the B concourse. In the second story was Eastern crew offices. I worked the flight line until 1967 in ATL. In the previous 5 or 6 years I attended Georga State Univ in downtown Atlanta. I got off work at 7:30 AM with a 8:00 class time at school. Really flew up the hwy to downtown three times a week. What memories!!!!
For those who want the "Rest of the Story". Eastern decided that I would make a great freight sales rep for the new freight division with 727QC freighters. Guess they were right I finished my airline career at another Airline as Vice President of Cargo Sales and Services for Domestic, South America, and Europe.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to relive my salad days.

RE: Hearing aids

RVTEN said "The in the ear aids. Did not give me the tuning options I wanted.
This is also why I have a solid ear mold.
Another reason is a I have a high moister problem in my ears. More than normal. Heck I can work up a swet on 30 weather just doing nothing."
You and I share some of the same problems. First the moisture is not a problem with the open fit receiver on the BTE with wire to receiver. The small soft plastic spacer that holds the receiver is vented with 4 holes. As you ears breath and has acess to to open this will help migate the moisture problem. My in the ear molded units caused my ear canal to sweat and aggravated the bad fungus problem from swimming in creeks as a kid. Very painful!! This type I can wear all day for weeks without a problem.
Also, I have an small clicker control to change programs to fit different conditions.
Mine from Costco have 4 times the control as the small in the ear units, check them out, Costco will let you try them in the store with no obligation. I did and hear sounds and conversations from passing shoppers which I could not do for years. BTW the batteries last a month, rather than 4 days! Plus a controller to change HA programs.

RE: Hearing aids

Ghost if you have the open fit (receiver in the ear with wire connection) hearing aid and they are uncomfortable the go back and ask to have them refitted. The ear piece (small plastic piece that surounds the receiver) is too large its not comfortable; also if too small it will cause whistling and other problems.
I switched to this type in Feb and would NEVER go back to the molded units.
RVTen I puzzled as the receiver in the ear generally is preferred by those with severe hearing loss. I push the received deeper into the ear which allows the receiver to broadcast direct into the ear drum. My ENT recommended this type because of my severe loss of hearing.
This the only HA I've used that I allow me to forget I'm wearing them.

RE: Need Recommendation For Central A/C Unit For Home

As I'm almost in the same boat unit as mine is at least 20+ years old.
Here is what I've learned. Variable speed or two speed compressor allows unit to run at best efficency for the load, varible speed fan also for same reason which allows it to match the demand from the house, and finally make certain its has a expansion valve NOT a capillaty tube. This gives the unit the ability to cool to the demand, unlike the cap tube which produces the same amount of cooling regardless of cooling demand. All of these are available without a major cost difference but will save you money each month of use.
Just ask your AC dealer about these items you don't need to know the tech stuff if you have a good dealer. BTW a very knowledgeable AS dealer advised me to buy a 14 to 16 SEER with the above and don't get stampede by ultra high SEER units. Its as someone posted it the installation and matching of the units that produces the best results.
Believe me its hot in North Texas, 100+ for last week except for one day.

RE: Freezing Butter

You may find that real butter will not affect cholesterol levels at all. Obviously use in moderation as in all things.
Spent some time with a Professor and Dean of Nutrition at a famous University who showed me a chart of heart attacks in USA from 1900 to 1990+ compared with use of maragine in the USA. Chart for maragine started after WW One when maragine was introduced as measure to save fats for the war effort. Heart attacks in the population which had been flat line prior to 1920 marched up and basically matched the maragine useage line step by step. My wife is a Ph.D in Nutrition and Dietitian and we use butter in our home.

RE: Lawn mower ramps

Don't even consider the Sears folding steel ramps unless you have the box opened at the store. The packaging is so poor the ramps are damaged by bending the connection "ears" 90 degrees. Took mine back and had MGR check others prior to purchase, his stock of 6 were all damaged. To add insult to injury he wanted to charge me a "restocking" fee for the return. After vigorous discussion he dropped the fee.

RE: Universal Health Care

An question, Why do we want to tear apart a system that provides the world best health care for 82% of American so we can give the 18% free care. This is written after having read the very large sign in the ER entrance stating that Federal Law requires EVERY PERSON desiring care to receive it free or if they have insurance it will be billed. Speak to every ER Doctor or Nurse and they will tell you about people who use the ER for hang nails to headaches. Recent story from Austin where 9 indivduals went to ER over 3000 times in 4 years. This is more than 2 visits per week. Certainly we can take care of those in real need without ruining the health care of 250 million American to cover the alleged 45 million.
A lot of talk about the wonders of Canadian and UK health care free systems. We have family in both countries. My BIL had stomach pains went to Health system in Montreal, they scheduled exploratory surgery for approximately 6 month later. Why it could not have been examed with MRI or Cat Scan is a mystery, oh, I forgot Canada has longer wait times for these machines. It was pancreatic cancer and he died less than 5 month later. His days were extremely pain filled.
An uncle in Scotland was a BOE decorated hero from WWll. He experience very severe chest pain, my aunt took him to NHS hospital. Doctor examed him gave him pills and sent him home. Hours later he is getting worse so my aunt calls a private doctor, he immediately says heart attack and orders him to hospital. He was DOA.
Again we are sacifacing 82% for 18%. The only way Universal Health Care works is rationing! I have personal experience in hospitals and clinics in Munich. I had laser eye surgery for torn retina in Landshut. Great service but the cost was about twice what I would have paid in our "terrible" health care system in the USA. BTW the eye surgeon was my niece, so I did not have to wait. Nothing like having an IN or PULL.
Sorry this so long but REAL EXPERIENCE trumps preceived problems.

RE: California muni bond question....

Harry, in a bankrupcy EVERYTHING is on the table to be cut or sacaficed. So, why stick around to see IF you will get the good or bad end of the stick. I always advised my clients to sell and watch what happens, if we are wrong buy it back. Taking a small loss is much preferable to taking a total wipeout.

RE: So can you eat this ?

pickle, if you added 50 pounds in recent years you MAY be able to bring it under control with weight loss. Certainly the relative rapid weight gain did not help the problem and may have been the factor pushing you over the edge. As someone said get with a Registered Dietetican immediately and have her/him write out a diet plan for you to control blood sugar levels and lose weight. As others have said you can control it but you will need to get the education to do so.
I am hypoglycemic which means I have an excess of insulin, the only control is diet. My DW is a Ph.D in Nutrician and Registered Dietetian, she has controlled my problem with diet for 50 years.

RE: Any Day Traders here?

Is it gambling or investing? Well, you tell me? If I daytrade my margin amount is 1/2 the amount needed for a trade held over night! Apparently Broker/dealer think it less risky as they allow you to put up only half the money for a daytrade vs a over night trade.
ALL investing is a gamble, just look at what has happen in last nine months. Yet I was daytrading Oct,Nov,Dec and early Jan and I did not lose money but made a few dollars. People who bought and held lost up to 90% on some stocks and the market average was 40% or worse.
Doug, risk is not defined by time, one could almost say risk is less with a shorten exposure.
On rereading my statement about "not losing money" so their is no mistake, not all trades were profitable but the sum total of all trades is I made money. Anyone trading expects to have a loss on 50% or more of trades. The secret is to make more on winning trades and immediately close out losing trades (money management).
