RE: Is This Where Truck Campers Are Headed?

I can see JC's point--------There must be more important things to worry about:@ Nigel & Pamala---Lakenheath--UK

RE: Horizontal LP tanks

we tried to get the OPD type valve fitted to the original cylinders on our camper, but tried many places and eventually had to buy two new ones---much more expensive than vertical ones !!! We understand that horizontal ones can only be filled standing upright ??? a bit of a pain having to remove to fill !!! Nigel & Pamala-----Lakenheath---UK

RE: Preparations for Morocco

We hope Steve got away OK-----we heard that other ferry crossings are loading their prices !!!!!!!!! A few days earlier and he would have gone on the correct ferry-------saving A LOT of road miles !!! Nigel & Pamala-----Suffolk---UK

RE: Trip report Parc de la Vanoise (France)

I just love France--and your pictures show off what we love about it !! But we always manage to travel too early or late in the year-----we planned to travel through this spring coming back from Portugal---we crossed the snow covered Pyrenees in the sun-- BEAUTIFUL---then it rained all of the three weeks we took to get back into England (and it kept raining)-------but the rain does not affect us (too) much !! Nigel & Pamala-----Lakenheath--UK

RE: Cable Jacks --- Leaving the jacks behind?

I have seriously thought of leaving my jacks at home, it would save a lot of weight. BUT---I left them on last winter away---the camper floor on the over-cab collapsed onto the truck's roof (we have twin beds so we put a lot of weight in the centre with no double bed to spread the weight) I was able to remove the camper to make the repairs-----------------------so this winter the jacks come with us--just in case !! good point about the first aid kit-----we haven't looked inside ours for far too long:( Nigel & Pamala

RE: Preparations for Morocco

the charge from our truck to camper is pretty hopeless------I do intend to fit a separate charge (with decent size cable) to the camper--------I have fitted an Anderson plug with big cable from TC battery, for the macerator on the camper------I think a wire from truck's battery to plug into this socket would be simple and work well!! Nigel & Pamala-----Lakenheath--UK Keep us up to date---we enjoy watching your progress

RE: Bigfoot front window leak

Hi We had that problem with our Elkhorn ------The carpet below the front (sliding) window was saturated---rain is channelled between the truck roof and underside of camper, then pressure fed down into the top seal--I removed the window and found that the sealer strip had dropped off the window when it was fitted----I refitted the window with new sealer and all was ok-----Except for the de-lamination below the window !!! RE: Preparations for Morocco

Hi Steve We are really impressed with your prep. for the Maroc trip. One thing that MAY give you a small problem----with your compressor 'fridge---how long will it run IF you get a spell of bad weather ?? (unlikely at that time of the year--but possible) you are depending on the freezer a bit. The main difference with your Maroc trip to ours is that you are heading more into bike/serious 4x4 country-----whereas we are intending to just hit the edge of these areas-----we don't intend to go into 4x4 country--we carry 4x4 as insurance. ------The locals repair punctures, and we will not be too far from small villages. (we wrecked a tyre in Portugal last winter---you don't have to go into the desert to have tyre problems !!!!!!) Even though we have 1 solar panel we always carry our 1kw Honda (valuable insurance when alone in the wild.) We have a bolt INSIDE the camper door and an alarm-----if they really want to get in they will !!---especially in SPAIN !! ----We think you will be safer in Maroc than Manchester!!!!!!!!!!! Have you looked at ADAC breakdown ins. ?? they include re-patriation and they are not expensive. We can't wait for your report and pics. Nigel & Pamala-----Lakenheath----UK

RE: So what places are on your bucket list?

A dream : Go to Siberia across Europe, cross the strait of Bering to join Alaska, go to East to Quebec across Canada, come down to USA East coast then go to to West coast California, then go back to East Florida and come back home ! Just a dream ... but who knows:) Hi Thierry what a dream !!!!! but have you been to Oradour-Sur Glane ????? LOL For us-- all we want is a road in front of us---it doesn't matter where it's going------and to meet people along that road-----that is enough for us now !!!-------------We just like forest, mountains and desert--wherever they are. RE: buying a TC to go to Alaska

Hi I made a point of asking fellow travellers what they would use if doing the Alaska trip again----nearly all said ''I would take a rig like yours''--------- We did 17,500 miles in 4 months with our Cummins Dodge dually and never once wished we chose another RV------We are taking our rig to Morocco this winter, and although we have looked for an alternative mode of transport, we can't find anything to beat our 4x4 truck and (old) Lance camper. I don't know much about buying a camper in US, but if you bought in Montana wouldn't you get it tax free ????? Enjoy your trip to AK ---whatever you take Nigel & Pamala---Lakenheath---UK

RE: Around Alaska 2012 - Trip Report, (LOTS OF PICS!!)

Still keeping up with you !!!!!! It is a pity that you had so much rain-----but it IS AK !!! We were SOOO lucky that although it rained a LOT while we were there (4 weeks) it never really affected our trip (much !) The Top Of The World was closed most of the time we were in AK (washed out several times) but it JUST opened in time for us to leave AK by that route -------Can't wait to see the rest of your trip---------------SOOOO envious----but can't complain we have been there !!!!! Enjoy the rest of AK----- Nigel & Pamala---Lakenheath---UK

RE: Trip report: Last shakedown trip before Morocco

Hi Steve Another really good trip report !! Have you seen 'Morocco Overland' by Chris Scott??------he suggests loads of trips---some are suitable only for m/cycle (or maybe 2 4x4s running SLOW together?? We bought the book, but found that a new one has just been printed!!!!! The book does suggest several 'round trips' in the desert and mountains. We decided to stay in Portugal last winter----but now plan to re-visit Maroc in Feb '13 after some more time in Portugal. You look REALLY well prepared for your trip-----I can't carry full size waffle but always carry one cut into squares to fit in a locker----VERY usefull Look forward to the report of your trip Nigel & Pamala---Lakenheath---UK BTW---we have heard that old mobile 'phones are a usefull currency there now!!! (it was rolls of 35mm film when we were last there!!-----shows how long ago our last visit was !!!)

RE: Power Sources - Newbie question

Hi can't you do some 'shake-down' trips before your big trip? to work out what YOU need/want. We spend several months a year in our TC-----you get used to using your power, water etc according to whats available. We would not consider doing the south of US without AC in Summer----when we did our road trip we stopped at camp grounds just to use their EHU (our on-board genny never did work--it's now a boat anchor!!!!!!) and it's old home is put to much better use. We (since being back in Europe) now NEVER travel without our 1000w Honda !.--It fits really nice behind the driver's seat (in a canvas zip bag) This Summer we have fitted a 80w solar, second camper battery and some LED bulbs----be interesting to see how they perform this winter. So far it is looking good, we don't have a compressor 'fridge or sat. TV. We have fitted a 25amp C-tek charger so that we can re-charge fairly quick with the little Honda when necessary. RE: Out of state sales tax

In the UK a TC is classed as cargo if no tools are required to unfasten it-------------------------if you need a spanner (wrench) then it is part of the vehicle Interesting thread !!!!! Nigel & Pamala-------------UK
