RE: Chevy 454 exhaust manifold gasket leak

If you need to use a easyout...dont use a spiral type. Use the wing type. It grabs better. Believe me I know!

RE: Coleman AC blower squeal

If anyone had this happen, I did oil the shaft and it has worked great. No noise anymore. I guess that should be oiled annually. Mine looked like it has never been.

RE: Looking for some advise on what type of car I should tow...

A great option would be to get a 2000-2001 Saturn SW2 or any S Series. The wagon has room in the rear, weight is under 2500#s
CL has them under $2.5k. I even bought the base plate and Blue Ox Acclaim tow bar, cables and all for less than $3k. In fact I liked the S Series cars so much I bought 2002 SC2 3-door for my work car. It gets 40 MPG!
Cars are cheap and easy to work on. Base plate is a piece of cake. I have put 3 on. Takes less than 1.5 hrs to install plate.

RE: 1983 chevy p chassies brake caliper removal?????

Take a brass punch and drive out the wedge that the screw came out of. you might need to spray some PB Blaster to loosen things up. Once you drive it out the caliper come right off. its just wedged in there.

RE: Engine oil

Thicker oil will not flow as fast as thin. So, I do believe one should stick to the recommended weight that the manufacture has listed. Ford and some others have 5w-20 as the oil of choice. When I had a Ford I chose not to. But after talking to a 40 year veteran machanic, he explained why thinner is better. I now have a few Saturns. The s Series have a bad ring design that allows oil to get trapped and burn. Thicker oil will tend to crust and coke up around heat issues unlike thinner oil which flows and cleans better. This in turn is what aids in sticking ring issues on Saturns. BUT this is a RV forum. But I feel is engine is a engine. But this issue can be battled again and again. But I for one will stick with what it says on the cap. And Im sure if we all keep oil changed and at the correct level, all is good.
Do what you want , it is America .
Just don't say it is better if it isn't .
The cap on a 2000 Jeep Wrangler said 5W30
the cap on a 2011 Jeep Wrangler says 5W20
same engine same everything .
Point is use what you want , just don't try to justify it by saying it is better .
better for me....lol I just love forums.

RE: Engine oil

I ran a search on oil, after reading through a bunch of other peoples experiences, I came up with this: Oil thicker than 10-30 is not needed, even in climates exceeding 100 deg. The thinner oil gets through the engine components and your oil cooler more efficiently, so, stands to reason that the oil will be cooler. The majority opinion is that synthetic oils are superior to reg oil.
2X
I only use Rotella 5W-40 so I only have to stock one engine oil for our since we have from lawn mowers to diesel engines. Synthetic is not required but I was glad I had a fresh change of it when my mistake I got on the old run going into Yosemite and did the long hard pull doing 15 MPH at WOT. I do think the oil film is a tad stronger with synthetic. Again I do not know if the engine can tell the difference but it does give me more piece of mind under extreme conditions. :)
I do think it is better for air cooled engines that tend to run as much as 100F hotter with no oil coolers.
But a thicker oil like 5W-40 will not cool as fast as a 10W-30....

Coleman AC blower squeal

It was hot on this weeks trip! 102.
Today my AC blower started a steady squeal. I shut it off. Turned fan only on to see if it was indeed the blower. Yes it started after a minute of running again, Took the inside cover off to access the rat wheel....lol to see if I could find the problem. It turns free with no noise. I noticed the filter for the return was real dirty, plugged you might say. Washed and cleaned both and put it all back. Ran for a hour....no noise. Could the filter cause the squeal? Can I oil the motor? It turn real free and is quite as can be. Blows great. Any thoughts?

RE: Do I need a Brake Too?

At the risk of being chastised to no end, My dolly does not have brakes. It just worked out that way. But our coach is only 16k# on a 26k# chassis pulling a car under 3k#. The brakes on the coach are more than adequate. But before several of you take up your pitchforks and torches and storm my doors, I would note that I think brakes are a good idea. Sure I could stop shorter. But in it's current state I can still throw the entire contents of my coach to the front if I wanted to hit the brakes hard enough. And I bet dollars to doughnuts my coach fully loaded with car in tow can stop much faster then the majority of larger gassers and any DP without a toad. So before you come after me make sure your stop distance is shorter than mine. Good idea? Sure. Necessary in all situations? No. There is a reason they make and sell dolly's without brakes.
Im in agreeing with you. Mine is at 18000 lbs, and I can stop with my Saturn SW2 4-down which is around 2400 lbs with no problems at all. What I might say is, yes it is a good idea, but not a must in my view. My set up drives much better with the car in tow anyway. Less sway.....lol

RE: Direct TV mount.

I mounted one on the roof near the ladder, put the dish on and point it where needed. That way it isn't a temptation for someone to mess with it.
Mike
Thanks, that was the way I was thinking as well.

Direct TV mount.

Has anyone put a 2" mount for their dish on their rear latter? I know I can use a tripod, but thought of putting it up on the latter out of the way.
