RE: Toad supplemental braking question

My Fiesta weighs only 2,600 lbs. My concern with the ReadyBrake is will only be effective in hard braking situations? Is my Fiesta too light for the ReadyBrake under normal driving conditions? I doubt it. ReadyBrake will work with a light or heavy vehicle as it is a proportional system-----------the more braking needed, the more applied. on a proportional system, wouldn't a lighter vehicle give a lesser "push" causing a lesser braking effort than with a heavier toad? bumpy That's exactly my thinking. If correct, I don't think the ReadyBrake would be a good choice for such a light vehicle. Since it is a much lighter vehicle it also requires less braking effort! Remember our dingy/dolly/trailer brakes are auxiliary or supplemental brakes meant to assist the towing vehicles brakes. :B

RE: Break-away required???

It is a good idea and yes like all the other towing laws varies by state.

RE: Campgrounds around Portland

We stayed at Roamers Rest in Tualatin last spring when up there for GD's birth, reasonable price fairly close in with a river running behind it. No pool or other amenities but nice and grassy and trees. There is another place in Wilsonville, I think that is right, just down the 5 from Portland across the freeway from CW. Pool rec room and good sized spots and lots of trees also, we may try here or the state park Champoeg looked real nice if we won't be there more than 2 weeks.

RE: Towing button on shifter

As above we use it going downhill mostly, but when going up hill if the trans shifts more than once I engage it also and the "hunting" goes away. What it effectively does on upshifts is extend the shifting range, i.e. shifts at higher rpm, and on the way down hill will hold a lower gear without being manually shifted. The trans will downshift on it's own if you push the brakes and scrub off some speed, somewhere between 5-10 mph reduction triggers it seems.

RE: camping world

One to keep in mind you are asking about a "wiring" problem, depending on the symptoms may be very straight forward or very time consuming, read $$$$ consuming, to find not matter where you take it.

RE: To drive or to tow?

Our first class A was to tow our ski boat, didn't want to have to take 2 vehicles, and pay for, to go to the lake. The current A my wife has Lupus and needs to change positions often along with use facilities that would not be possible without stopping with any trailer. Now when the kids were small we didn't let them move around while I was driving but at least when I pulled over there was always a clean bathroom and no matter the weather you could get to it, make a meal or go to bed. With small child that may be a big deal. Is your current vehicle front wheel drive? If so you could rent a dolly or buy one used to pull what you have. We pull our 323i BMW behind our coach, coach averages around 7-7.5 mpg and the car averages around 26 mpg! so when we park the coach and explore we get really good gas mileage. Your current vehicle may get much worse mileage than normal if you are towing near or at it's tow rating. Good luck with whatever you decide because in the end it is what works for YOU and your family not what works for any of the rest of us.

RE: The Pyramid of Doom

Not wanting to be sour grapes but why do Moderators let this garbage that has nothing to do with General RV'ing be posted? So sorry, headmaster. Next time there is a post about a frequent problem with an RV black tank, we will make sure to note that it has nothing to do with an RV black tank. :S I posted because there is zero information about the black tank that is helpful to anyone. Just a bunch of gibberish that belongs somewhere besides here. For the same reason you not only read it once and posted but then posted a second time!:h If a thread doesn't interest you don't read it!! Many posts I skip over you do not have to read every single thread or post within a thread!:S :B :B

RE: Solar panels -- how common?

One other item is solar seems more popular here in the southwest. No we are not more ecofriendly we have fewer trees and more sun, making them more useful. Also we have lots of BLM land where you can boondock again good application for solar.

RE: Wonder what an extended trip will cost?

Thats pretty good. I just spent about $250 per day on a solo motorcycle trip up the California coast. Hotel rooms for 1 person gets pricey as does nice dinners with a couple of good beers. Maybe RVing is cheaper. Hmmm, maybe if you rode a Harley instead of a Beemer your cost would be less.....Just bust'n ya. Did that same thing and came out about the same price. Agree, having the RV with the bike in tow would be ALOT cheaper...Safe riding Fire Guard. -paul Nah then the tow service would cost him more! :B Previous rider of K1200LT! I noticed how expensive last long trip across country on the bike and that was several years ago. Motel rooms were a major sticker shock as it had been several years since last did trip on bike with motels. To old to camp on the ground anymore. Well I can get down on the ground it is the getting back up in the morning that is the problem!:E

RE: National RV, and other orphan values

Once the coach is out of warranty and current production doesn't matter if manufacturer is in business or not, all the parts are available in the aftermarket. Body parts that are unique are also available, in National's case through Ortega Manufacturing in So. Cal. There is nothing out there in a gas unit that I would trade my Dolphin for and very few in DP we would move too. :B
