RE: With Grand Daughter in California

While no one has mentioned Universal yet that is because there isn't anything! Very non rv area. I believe the nearest place last was a trailer park in the San Fernando Valley around Van Nuys I believe. One that is not near but not bad outside commute hours is Dockweiler Beach near LAX sites on the beach and you get to watch the ships come and go from Long Beach and San Pedro Harbor. Quick run from there to Santa Monica and Malibu.

RE: Rincon Parkway

Where reservations are available already full on weekends through T-day! We haven't camped out there in years, Faria beach probably 20 years ago and that was with a group back when county campgrounds were $8 a night dry and 10-12 with electric and maybe water. We live close enough we use the coach out there for day use only.

RE: Class A with tag axle - beware of $1000. fine in AZ!

Here is the line of code from the AZ code causing all the bother. 17. "Light class motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle that uses use fuel on the highways in this state but excludes a road tractor, truck tractor, truck or passenger carrying vehicle having a declared gross vehicle weight of more than twenty-six thousand pounds or having more than two axles. It can be found here under chapter 16 > Taxes > definitions 28-5601 item 17. What it amounts too is RV were never taken into consideration and as such are included in the weight and axle requirement. So without an exclusion for RV's they would be included. At first it looked like this article of the law might have been included under the commercial common carrier code but no they started a new section for the Taxes.

RE: 2014 37M Winnebago Journey

Our lemon law in CA only applies to passenger vehicles, unfortunately in cases like this. I would expect though that Winnie would be more responsive if they make sure they are aware of your friends unhappiness! Sounds like a lot more than someone being picky either these are pretty big deal issues.

RE: Class A with tag axle - beware of $1000. fine in AZ!

Just toi add fuel to the fire, no pun, 28-5623. Civil penalty; use fuel purchaser; vendor refund; financial penalty prohibited; subsequent violations A. Notwithstanding any other law, if a person intentionally purchases use fuel for use in a use class motor vehicle that is not exempt pursuant to section 28-5432 from the weight fee prescribed in section 28-5433 and the person pays the use fuel tax rate for a light class motor vehicle, all of the following apply: 1. Except as provided in subsection B of this section, the person is subject to a civil penalty of one thousand dollars or ten dollars for each gallon of use fuel dispensed, whichever is greater, and shall pay to the department the difference between the amount of light class motor vehicle use fuel tax paid and the amount of the use class motor vehicle use fuel tax on the same number of gallons purchased. And the only exception I found was for a historical vehicle with AZ historical plates, that have lots of restrictions.

RE: HELP! Insurance expiring Oct 1st

Insurance premiums depend upon what is insured and the amount insured. Full replacement cost for motorhome, full coverage for broken glass, full replacement for awnings, 1/2 million dollar liability, 1,000 dollar deductible, estimated value of personal contents, uninsured and underinsured coverage, etc. Compare apples with apples and not apples to oranges to get an accurate comparison of cost. I find that different insurance plans do not cover the exact same as another insurance company. This is the biggest deal when you compare, make sure same coverage including deductibles. When we shopped a year or so back no one touched or Progressive policy for coverage and most were not more than $250 a year less in cost, but we would lose our $103000 coverage and vanishing deductible had brought our effective deductible to $0.00 but our rates are figured at $1000 ded. As others have stated many variables including your state insurance laws, where you live, where the RV is kept when not used along with driving record.

RE: CW $59 install (read the fine print)

I know of no instance that I have been handed the fine print after signing a service contract. If that happened to me I would refuse to pay. All the terms are in the 4 corners of the contract. If it is not stated or referenced in the contract is is not a part of the contract. There's no "contract". The person walks into the store and says "I want to take advantage of the $59 install" The work is done and then the person is surprised with a bunch of added nonsense. Not in CA and I believe in many other states, you sign a work order authorizing the work. In CA that has to state the estimated charges to accomplish the work and requires a authorization form the owner BEFORE any further work or expense added beyond the estimate. BTW the BAR work order required to used states right in it a "shop supplies" charge in the subtotal and total.

RE: Fire

The state and national forests have been mismanaged for so long we have 6-10' of fuel lying on the forest floor, had they been funded properly the forest service would have completed the control burns and there would have been no huge loss of property. And it has been that way, way to long to blame it on one party's policies. Plus the fact we imported the pine beetle that is killing the forests in north America so don't tell me about its a natural thing. WE CAUSED THIS. It is not always by choice or due to lack of funds. We have large forest areas here in Ventura County and the county and environmentalist have been fighting for 30+ years over controlled burns and keeping the forest healthy. Several years back the Sespe wilderness caught fire, not man created, and it burned for over a week because of all the deadwood and brush. The animals had long left as not even the rabbits could get through the brush. A couple years after the fire cleared everything out all the animals were back! From bunnies to hawks to mountain lions the whole food chain returned, yet the battles continue. A couple years back in an effort to stay away from concerns about controlled burns, along with the start of the draught, the fire department took a small herd of goats up into the mountains and paid a shepherd to watch over them brining them in at night to a portable pen and moving them every few days so they thinned not killed all the vegetation. Well that ticked off the environmentalist again for some reason and the animals were removed. Big surprise we have had big fires throughout the Los Padre forest for the last 2 years! In that great philosopher Pogo's words we have met the enemy and it is us!

RE: Jalopnik.com editorial on RV Licencing

One that he has wrong in his dissertation is that tour bus drivers need nothing besides base license. In most states if you drive for hire in anything with 3 or more axles you need a higher level of license. If for hire you transport people that is still a different license. In CA limo drivers need a commercial class B. Motorcyclists are not required by federal law to have an endorsement that is a state by state requirement and varies greatly between states. As someone stated above the main reason we are not being pushed to have an upgraded license in all states is we do not comprise enough of the death statistics. Even in the states where you are supposed to have a higher level it isn't enforced, like CA. BTW before the trailer/5th wheelers get laughing to much in CA if your trailer is over 10K the license requirement starts kicking in. One big problem is the laundry list of qualifications on whether you need an upgrade and if you do to what!

RE: Help Me Find GOOD Fresh Water Hoses

I use the 5/8 Nevrkink hoses from Teknor Apex. They are a rail customer of ours and their hoses are made in the USA. X2. Here is a link to CW that sells them. Used them for over 8 years now without problems. And no, they do not kink. Never Kink Us too, replaced our original hose with one these in 25' x 5/8 2 maybe 3 years ago works great. I like the oversize grip on the female end no need for wrench or large pliers to get tight.

RE: North or South

We did the whole Oregon coast a year ago on our way home from Portland after first GD was born spent couple days less than 3 weeks from Portland to the CA border. Then 3 days home in So. Cal. about 750 miles, so Oregon coast is pretty short to us! LOL and we are still 200 miles from the Mexican border!

RE: Low voltage at campgrounds? I found the solution.

I have never in over 10 years told that I could not use my Autoformer in a Park You have never been to Thousand Trails Palm Springs then! A few years ago someone convinced them that Autoformers or the like were causing their pedestals to go bad. The fact was their pedestals were ancient and were in need of replacement. I guess this last winter they had no problems with people using them. I built ours in and it works great and by doing so I don't have to lock it up as they are easily stolen. Palm Springs has changed it tune and now allows them. As stated above old wives tale, if the autoformer has any effect on the park it is to smooth out power as at least everyone that uses one will pull more consistently.

Motorhome has allowed us to do a lot more traveling than any other choice would have. Cheryl has several issues from the lupus including back. Mh allows her to change positions or just stand and stretch.
