RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

Lack of sun is definite issue. Our daughter lives up there and we spent 5 weeks there last May for our first granddaughters birth. Rained 3+ weeks and some time during the day for the remaking weeks. There are some great things too but not sure I could live there fulltime.

RE: Home deduction.

Unless you are renting out the RV no you can not deduct any other costs besides interest. Can't with your S&B can you? The RV is treated just like a vacation house.

RE: 94 Southwind House Batteries. Begging for help :(

Positive to positive and negative to negative should measure 0 that should NOT make a circuit. You also stated that when plugged in or engine running you measure 12 at the 1 pos and 1 neg, this says everything outside the battery compartment works. One possibility is one of the 6 volt batteries is wired in backwards???

RE: All Electric Motorhome ?

Just a few short years ago though that stop to charge would have been an couple of hours and the battery technology available would have made it weigh more than the diesel unit. However those those fast charge overhead units would have to become real common to use this for more than route type vehicles. As Jay said in the piece just imagine if we can save all the fuel buses and other similar vehicles use what will that do to the longevity of the fuel supply? One I followed for a while until they folded was the Aptera. Thought it would be the perfect toad. Originally it was rear wheel drive, I figured put a stinger in the rear and like the VW buggies we used to build in the 60's lift the rear wheel off the ground and plug it in!

RE: Not For The Faint of Heart

BY the way Loulou one can sympathize with is not paying attention to the restrooms location elevation wise! Years ago when we were tent camping at one of the lakes we like we went to a new area with our 4 month old with us, yes we were young and had plenty of energy then! :B Come about midnight wake up decide I need to use the facilities. Now it soaks in that the bathroom is about 300-400 yards away AND uphill about 300 feet. Now if you think walk BACK from the bathroom up hill is bad try it with a full bladder than is used about 6 feet to the bathroom! On the subject of squirrels several years ago when this coach was still pretty new we were at a nearby lake. Woke about up about 7 in the morning to the weirdest sound that kept coming and going. Went outside finally to see if a branch was brushing the roof or what. Seems we parked between two trees that had small branches that stopped just above the roof. We had a couple of squirrels that were using the roof of the motorhome as the expressway between the trees! They would tear down one leaping the short distance to the roof with a thump. Then run like crazy, maybe smacking each other if they passed, and then jumping onto the other tree and run up there! :B Bummer about knees and heart but hope you have many more adventures that create many more memories and stories. Don't know about you but for us most of the "memorable" trips had something that went "wrong"! :B

RE: camping without reservations

The short answer yes and it depends! :B It varies by park and if you are talking a coastal park on the weekend from Easter through Thanksgiving you better have a backup plan. The coastal fill fast even early spring and late fall for the weekends. Mid week except during prime school vacation time good chance you can get at least 1 night spot.

RE: How worried should we be?

I know that the people in the States are not all bad people. I don't know where this comes from. I think that we hear way too much of the negative on the televisions and not enough of the positive. I really want to camp in Virginia and Pennsylvania. I am going to work on this and have it on my bucket list, LOL Bad people make better news than the good that people do. Sometimes living here you watch the news and start to think I must live a sheltered life cuz I don't see this going on! :h Come on down and enjoy yourself and just treat everything the way you would at home or in a town you might travel to in Canada. :B

RE: 94 Southwind House Batteries. Begging for help :(

I missed a detail when I read through your description, you said yo have power at the battery when plugged in or engine running? No power when everything shut off/disconnected. Are you measuring with a meter if so drop off the negative cable and recheck. If you truly do not have any power at the batteries with the cable disconnected one or both batteries are bad. Further testing I assume you have 2 6 volt wired in series, + goes to - on the second battery and only 2 cables leave the battery compartment, one positive from first battery and one negative from the other battery.

RE: 94 Southwind House Batteries. Begging for help :(

Follow the positive cable back from the batteries and hopefully you come across a large fuse, think 30 look like it belongs in your house size. Otherwise you may have blown something in the power distribution panel. Not sure where that is in your Southwind.

RE: Safe location in Holiday Rambler Imperial

I am not sure anyone would tell you where they store all their treasures :E LOL exactly this is a public forum that anyone can read so if HR found a good place to hide it don't think many will be willing to give up the location.:B

RE: Safe location in Holiday Rambler Imperial

I found our safe under the passenger seat carpet mounted in the floor. I love your signature, although that was one of the reasons I left when my time was done! :B Even when they asked where you wanted to go it was just to tease you! :S Semper Fi.

RE: Looking for route/camping help. (Utah, Vegas, California..)

Dennis did a good job overall. One that can make a big impact on your stops is what time of year. GC and all of the CA coast will be quite busy during the summer and Moab will be sold out during Easter week, The Jeepers Jamboree is held that week. The only positive about the Monterey Fairgrounds is it is the only place in Monterey. There is a small gorgeous campground up on the hill called Veterans Park but it is for tents and under 16' rigs! Do you belong to Thousand Trails or a membership with RPI capabilities? TT/Naco has a campground south east of SD and another over the hill in Santa Barbara and if you continue up the coast there is one in Cloverdale right off the 101.

RE: Camp Verde to Bullhead City

When were out that way we went back out to 17 and then caught 169 towards Dewey/Prescott Valley and then picked up 89 up to 40 a little before Seligman. Good road all the way no ugly grades or narrow areas, lot more interesting than the superslab.

RE: Is it worth the bother to remove tow plates?

I would think one guiding parameter is what will it cost to have someone remove it? If you were doing the work then you decide what your time is worth.

RE: Camping with small grandchildren

When our kids were young we put them to bed on the queen bed and then stayed at other end of coach. When we were ready to go to bed take out of our bed put them on coach and dinette bed.

RE: Patio rug blowing away?

Only problem is as I keep drinking the beer, the cooler gets lighter. To solve the problem, I now bring two coolers of beer. Contributes to tripping over the rocks when it ain't even dark :) Yeah, but you don't feel it, nor remember it....:B:B....Dennis Oh you feel it Dennis but write it off to the morning after affect! :B :S And no idea why drinking beer makes your foot hurt as well as your hear=d! :B :B
