RE: Decals are peeling off the Raptor

Have you ever thought of changing the decals with other than the original scenes? I did on mine. You can find a lot of decals on eBay for very reasonable prices.

RE: Is my mileage unusual?

Finally got the answer to my mileage problem and I got it the hard way. Pulled into my son's house and unloaded the trailer. Few hours later went to get something from the store and the pickup rattled, ran rough, blew white smoke and had almost zero power.
Had it towed to the Ford house and guess what? Two injectors went south. Began to trace the problem back and found the fuel pump also was only putting out 40 lbs. pressure. Replaced all that and the Techs looked at what caused the problems in the first place and found filter full of water, then traced back to fuel tank. Pulled the tank to clean it and it was filthy with debris. Very expensive fix, however, since I have run solo and got 15.6 where as I had been getting 10.5.
Leaving in a couple of days to tow and I'll see how much it changes the towing mpg.

RE: Is my mileage unusual?

Thanks to all for the good advice. I got some good input here. Looks like my 4.10 is playing a part along with driving in tow=haul. I also will check the FICM. Just needed to know if something is wrong with most of the honest drivers saying they're getting 10.5-11 towing about the same load with the same driving habits.

RE: Is my mileage unusual?

NO, 13-14 is NOT a pipe dream as we have been towing our Carriage CarriLite that scale weighs 12,800 lbs when wet and loaded to travel and usually have our 106 gallon aux diesel tank in the bed full. Have towed it for many years with our 2004.5 GM 6.6 D/A CC LB 4X4 truck and 13-14 hand calculated is what we've average constantly on over 60,000 miles so far with the rig combo. Always use the cruise control and drive at 58-62 on Interstates and 55 on normal highways. Speed is the biggest killer of MPG's especially when towing heavy. Most people we know that have the Ford 6.0 PSD get roughly 3/4- 1 mpg less towing their 5'ers than we do when we go places together. "How many gallons did you take" is always a topic after refueling.
9.8 MPG's best is very low and I'm sure the OP can figure out why he gets that mileage assuming his truck/engine is running properly.
This is the original OP and I can't figure out why I get that mileage. That's why I'm asking what other people are doing. I drive the same speeds that you do. I do tow in the tow-haul mode because of the breaking factor. Other than that I'm driving in the 60 range and sometimes slower.

RE: Is my mileage unusual?

I run about 60-62 and sometimes slower that's why I wonder why I'm not getting around 10.5-11 instead of 8.75 to 9.2. A mystery to me, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong or different from everyone else.

RE: Is my mileage unusual?

What TnP said. Whether thats reasonable depends on the engine, and how much you're towing. Fwiw, I've had 3 superdutys and the computer on each of them was very close to hand calculated.
Pretty much what brirene has. Same pickup and nearly the same size trailer, mine might be a bit heavier.

RE: Is my mileage unusual?

More info, I'm towing with a 6.0 that's had all the work done (arp studs, bolts, new oil cooler, egr delete, etc,) The trailer is a Travel Supreme at about 12,500 lbs.

Is my mileage unusual?

I towed for over 10 years with a Ford V10 and averaged 8.25 mpg (nothing any better than 9.65). I've been towing over the last year with a Ford diesel and like the way it tows, however, the best mpg I've gotten is 9.8. All of those computations were done with pencil and paper method. The on board calculator says I'm getting 10.4. I hear everyone talking about 13-14 mpg towing with diesels. I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong.
Just looking for some information, not trying to start any arguments about the best brand or type of engine.

wifi help

I'm a novice with the techno stuff, so I need some help. Is is possible to use a repeater in the camp ground to boost a wifi signal? A couple of my favorite campgrounds offer wifi, but inside the 5th wheel it gets very weak to the point of one bar and dropping connection. If I set up outside the signal jumps up dramatically. I was wondering if using something like the Netgear repeater outside would boost the signal to a usable level inside. Any help would be appreciated.

We too have another brand but also agree that the permanently installed stabilizers we use are well worth it. Di

RE: Towing Heavy With a Gasser

I have towed with both. The V-10 was very reliable and did the job even in the Rockies. The diesel does tow better, however, if it's money to save that's the deciding factor...I can tell you I got 8.25 with the V-10 towing and I get 9.4 and sometimes worse with the diesel. With the cost difference in fuel and oil changes, there is no savings in the diesel.

RE: Gas price diffence

At present the state and federal taxes in NC are 57.6 cents for gallon of gasoline and 63.6 cents for diesel. Don't know what the local sales tax might be.

RE: Gas price diffence

Two reasons....avarice and greed.
And, that includes the state, county and city governments. Those entities can add up to over .35 a gallon and sometimes higher.

RE: Propane Odor When Tanks Switch

According to my gas supplier (who fills a lot of rv tanks and mobile homes) when the pressure gets low you will get some smell and it isn't leaking. Especially during icy weather, the pressure will get low when the tank is near the bottom. You probably won't smell it much during the hotter weather because the pressure stays higher. He says in the old days when they had butane tanks in the country, a lot of the farmers would build a fire near the tank to heat it and get the pressure up going to their house. Go figure.

RE: Passport America

Costs $44 per year.
Gives you a 50% discount off nightly rate
Each CG has there own rules/restrictions on use
Some limit it to weekdays
Some limit it to 3rd night of 3 night stay
Some limit it to 1 night
Some limit use to off-season
Some have no limits
For $44 it's a pretty good deal....usually only have to use it for two nights to break even
We have been using PA for 5 yrs.
BUT we travel FT and are on the move weekly/bi-monthly.
Would you go there even if it wasn't a PA CG.....then it's a no brainer.
Pretty much how our experience has been. Can't remember how many years we've used it, but sometimes there are good ones and sometimes the parks aren't great, but that's the same with any of them. we've always found enough to pay for the membership.

RE: Phantom Flat

My theory is that when you checked the tire pressure on the last day,the valve core stuck open and you lost all the air. Then when the tire shop put air in the valve core came unstuck and no leak.
X 3 I'm about to decide that's it.

Phantom Flat

Here's one for you. I get back from a long trip checking the tires each day before pulling out. Two days after I'm back, I notice that the outside of my right dual is flat. I mean totally out of air, so I take it off and run it down to the tire shop.
They put air in it and put the soapy water all over to find the leak. Can't find anything. They check the valve and the bead and nothing. I bring the tire home and fill it up to 80 and let it sit. Two days later it's still holding air.
Anyone have any ideas why this thing lost all its air?

RE: Texas Route Help

YOu will be just fine. The worse of Texas state highways are two lane with small shoulders. Some of them have either wide shoulders or even four lanes. In that area the terrain is very flat so the roads are all in good shape. Also going that way you avoid a lot of traffic. General rule of thumb in Texas you don't get into questionable roads for large motorhomes and tows until you go to some country and precinct roads. FM and ranch roads generally are in good shape and two lanes striped.
