RE: Slide locks

You don't need them and if you forget to take them out before extending the slideout you may cause serious damage to the trailer.

RE: equalizer vs reese dual cam

The Reese dual cam hitch is an excellent product and the equal of the other hitch when properly installed. I tow a 9,000 lb Holiday Rambler Alumalite with a Silverado 2500HD and never experience any sway or wind problems with this setup. If your tow vehicle is up to the task, you'll do fine with the Reese. You can then spend the cash you saved for fuel to take your first trip.

RE: How Can I Determine What Type Caulking Is Around Windows?

The point is that once you have used silicon you will have a difficult job the next time you need to recaulk. If a small section of the caulk around a window lets go, and it will over time, then what do you do? You can't patch it with silicon because it won't adhere to the existing surface nor to the adjoining silicon caulk already in place. If the manufacturer used silicon at the factory, you're stuck with that; however, most don't use silicon and for just this reason.

RE: How Can I Determine What Type Caulking Is Around Windows?

Silicon is not recommended because nothing will stick to it including silicon itself. Any caulk will let go over time and you will have problems trying to get the windows resealed because of the silicon that was used. I would follow the common advise offered here and choose something other than silicon. There are better caulks for this purpose.

RE: So how is the Jayco enclosed underbelly actually HEATED?

If you have a trailer with a sealed underbelly, then how are you getting to the tanks and water lines that may be in that area? The sealed units I have seen are just that: sealed. There is no access to anything under the trailer.
