RE: Will not start after 4 days

Try replacing the starter solenoid on the fire wall. When you turn the motor over to start the starter solenoid will kick int he fuel pump. Then after the motor starts the fuel pump runs off the oil pressure switch. I believe what is happening is the starter solenoid is bad and is not turning on the fuel pump. I had to replace mine.

RE: Damon RV keeps shutting down

If I was you I would take the alternator some where else and have it checked. Not sure but I think the voltage regulator is built into the alternator. If not check the voltage regulator.

RE: Myrtle Beach, SC Recommendations

All of the suggestions above are great, we have stayed at all of them at one time or another. We also like going to Apache Campground, because of the fishing pier. If you plan on doing any fishing this is the only campground that has a fishing pier.

RE: camping club/Raleigh NC

I belong to a family camping club in NC. It is called Family Campers and RVers(FCRV). We are a nationwide club with state chapters across the state. I live in Greensboro and belong to a club out of Thomasville. We have a club in Raleigh called the Raleigh Roadrunners. The president is Larry and Betty Stone. You can go to the state website: www.ncfcrv.org to contact them. We are having a statewide campout in Mt Airy, at the Mayberry Campground starting on Oct. 2-4. Everyone is welcome to come. We are having a fall festival at this campout. If you would like further info you can contact me directly by PM me. We are a very family oriented group.

RE: F53 chassis running hot

Basically have the same problem as you, 89 coachmen 460 engine, have tried everything you have tried and still run an average 225 to 230. I'm going to try sealing between the radiator and the motorhome body with rubber. Mine don't have any. Do you have rubber sealing off between the radiator and the body? If not, air could be going around the radiator instead of going through it and that will make it run hotter. Hope this helps.

RE: Concrete on Gelcoat

Do not use MURIATIC ACID on your TT. It will eat up the clear coat and any other coating. Try plain soap and water, using plenty of water. Keep the concrete good and wet, while washing it off. the wetter the better. I've took concrete off autos before this way.

RE: Jump from house batteries?

Hook your jumper cables to your house batteries, to your coach battery. All you need to do is hook up your positive to positive, as wolfe10 said. Let it set for an hour or two, then try to start your engine. This will charge your coach battery a little, or you can actually flip your emergency start switch to the on position and fix it somehow so that it will stay on. some systems you can put a pencil under the switch to hold it on.

RE: fuel pump

I have an 89 Coachman with a Ford motor, 460. Have had lots of fuel pump problems. IF you look on the left hand side of the steering column you should see a little black box with a red or gray button on top. This is the emergrency shut off switch for the fuel pump. From this switch the wires goes to the fuel pump should be a red with yellow striped wire. If you start the engine and check to see if you have 12 volts at this switch. If you do this is where the fuel pump wire should hook. Anymore questions you can pm me and I can explain further.

RE: Air suspension question

It is not a good idea to drive around with one airbag inflated. It throws the weight distribution off on the camper. Either keep them both inflated or neither inflated. It will make an unsafe driving condition with only one inflated. If you get the airbag fixed it is not necessary to pump them up all the way. The higher you raise the back of the camper the more weight you put on the front wheels.

RE: Overheating

You might want to shift down to a lower gear on the hills. 6 gear is probably a little to high to pull hills, you might want to consider 4 and keep a check on rpm's.

RE: Water heater won't work on gas

I had a similar problem with mine, it would not light off gas. I replaced the spark probe and it fixed the problem. This is a cheap part and easy to fix.

RE: A couple of Questions

I have a 89 Coachman, 460 engine, 3 speed transmission which is a c-6 Ford transmission. My book says to use Motorcraft Mercon transmission fluid. You should be able to find it about any place and it should work fine.

RE: 1989 Gulfstream Sun Vista No Power At Fuel Pump

You will not have any current going to the fuel pump unless you are turning the motor over trying to start it. If you don't have juice then, try the fuel pump cutoff switch that Crankshop was talking about. It is located beside the steering column on the left hand side with 2 red and orange wires going to it. Mash the red button on top, that will reset it. If that don't work try the starter silenoid. It should be located under the hood on the right hand side. If that don't take care of it, try the oil sending unit safety switch. What happens when you first start to turn the motor over, the silenoid sends current to the fuel pump. Once the oil pressure builds up the oil pressure safety switch takes over. The oil pressure safety switch is located on the back of the motor, it has 2 wires going to it. It is beside the oil pressure unit. What is does is cut the fuel pump off if you lose oil pressure, so you will not blow the engine. I know from experience, because I have gone through the same thing. Any more questions you can send me private message.

RE: Class A camping in Cherokee

We have camped at Happy Holidays Campground in Cherokee. It does not have concrete pads, but has everything else. They have very level lots and it is easy to get in and out of. They have a shuttle service that will take you anywhere in Cherokee. It is not far from the casino. They have bands that come in and play sometimes. Most of the staff is full timers that come in and work the season and they are very helpful. They have a pool, fishing lake and trout stream. They also have a small restaurant, laundry , store and sites on the trout stream.

Help with wiring a tote

A friend of mine has a 2008 Sea Breeze, Ford running gear. He bought a tote that was already wired with a 4-prong wiring harness. We used an adapter to adapt down from a 7-pin to a 4-pin. The trouble we are having is all the lights seem to work great, except the stop lights. Even on the 7-pin plug we cannot find the stop lights. The turn signals work fine on the tote. I thought that the stop light and turn signals were on the same prong. Can anyone tell me where I can find the stop light wire or tell me what I'm missing.

RE: possible f-53 fuel issues

You have a safety solenoid that hooks to the oil sending unit that goes to the fuel pump. You might want to check and see if that is going bad. It is possible that when you turn the motor over that the solenoid is letting electricity to the fuel pump. Once it starts the oil safety switch is suppose to send electricity to the fuel pump. It should be located next to the oil sending unit, and have two wires going to it.

RE: Desperately Need Help

If you start to think its the fuel pump, go to Advance Auto. They have one by Holley, it is real similar to the one you have on your motorhome. It is an electric fuel pump. It is a high pressure fuel pump, and it comes with the regulator. It is real easy to change out. I changed out the fuel pump in a campground after breaking down. I did not change out the regulator because the fuel pump was my problem. The number on the box is 12-802-1. If I'm remembering right they are about $130.00. I have the same chassis and motor as you, wish I could tell you more.

RE: Fuel Pump Relay

You have a starter solenoid, that starts the fuel pump running while you are turning the motor over. Once the motor builds up oil pressure there is a oil pressure sending unit that keeps the fuel pump running. This is a safety switch that shuts the fuel pump off if you loose oil pressure. It is located at the back of the motor beside the oil sending unit. I'm not sure what number is on this, but the solenoid number from NAPA is ST404SB. I had to replace both of mine to make it run correctly. You are better to go ahead and replace both of them, neither one is very expense.

RE: Fuel Pump problem

i have an 89 Coachman with a 460 Ford engine, 4 barrel carb, and a John Deere chassis. Are you sure that you don't have a John Deere chassis? Sound like I had the same problem as you. The first thing I would do is replace the safety shutoff at the oil sending unit. It shuts off the electricity to the fuel pump if you lose oil pressure. It is on the back of the engine, connected to the oil sending unit. The next thing I would replace is the starter relay. It is under the hood on the right side of the chassis. It also has a wire that goes to the fuel pump system. I replaced my fuel pump first and had to go back and replace both of these to solve my problem. Any further questions you can email me at tdsmith45@yahoo.com.
