When my wife was alive we used to tent camp everywhere from Florida up the Atlantic Coast to Cape Cod, and around the Great Lakes from Detroit to Sault ste Marie and back down to Chicago. We did this for several reasons: 1. We could not afford an RV, so we traveled in either a van or a station wagon, 2.We cut our lodging costs by a third by not staying in motels, and 3. We were still able to afford one dinner per day at a restaurant along the way. The rest of the time we picnicked.
I still think its the best way to travel, especially if you stay in State Parks, because there are always great facilities there (Flush Toilets and Hot showers), and they are a lot quieter than commercial parks.
To everyone who wants to get in on the action and get closest to nature, tent camping is the way to go!!
