RE: towing rpm

my chevy 6.0 gasser w/ 4:10's pulling @8000lb TT runs about 2500rpm at 65mph on slightly hilly north east hits 3000rpms at 7% grade 45mph with or with out tow haul. for me it just streches out the shift point on my 4spd tranny. I use synthetic oil and tranny fluid if that matters.

RE: trans temp when towing

04 Chevy 3500K (k=heavy duty) bought used and when towingTT my 33ft 8000lbs tt the tranny temp went well above 200degrees. I posted about it here. Endend up getting a new fan cluch and tranny fluid flush. Temp is hovering around 150 to 180 depending on road and grade.

RE: Goodbye forever I-95 and New Jersey!

Same idea, when going camping to the white mountains of nh from north central ma, GPS says take rt2 to 495n to 93n. This way is bumper to bumper traffic all the way to the nh border. Normally a 1hr 15min ride turns into 3hr+ . I skip all that by taking scenic rt13 to 101n to 93n. That takes 2hrs with way less stress.

RE: New to HTT - Tow Vehicle and HTT Option Questions

My 2 cents on camper, had a bantam b19, towed with a toyota sienna, it did ok. the TT was a huge upgrade from tent camping. We had a 4mo, dw, myself, and the dog 70 lbs mix. Once we brought the in laws=not suggested. With no slide it was very tight and when it rained the little guy was stuck inside with us in his jump a roo and the dog. Changing diapers was ok but still we craved more space. I was limited by my tow vehicle so bought a used 1ton and found a great deal on the camper in my signature. It's a house on wheels and in some ways bigger than my house. I no longer camp but Rv, now we have cars racing up and down the isle and movies at night. I miss my tent but this thing is easier to setup than the tent and the b19, 2hrs for the tent, 1hr 20 min b19, and 15 maybe 20 mins for the house on wheels. like other said buy your 2nd when buying your 1st.

RE: If you were to write a camping etiquette book ...

I learned some new ones but you cannot please everyone no matter what. Bet on a couple of things when you camp children, campfires(smoky ones too), loud laughter, and cold adults drinks. You want peace and quite plan your trip accordingly. Different cg have different sites and they all tend to be a miniature city. There are less people where I live compared to cg's. You read the hosts comments, only 2% donot follow the rules. I've had the cranky neighbors who wait for the moment your toe nail touches the border of their site to yell at you and then the friendly neighbor who helps you back in and offers a beer. Lots of variables that attribute to cg etiquette.

RE: rpm and tranny

my neighbor's car was making a gawd awful noise sometimes when he started it.
he asked me to listen. Whoah that was interesting, It was the bendix/starter drive gear hanging up on the flywheel. What a commotion.
Rebuilt starter and all was well. that sounds more like it. But could it have caused the check engine light? Thinking back on cars that sounds like the noise but 10x louder. Lovin the input here. Thanks again.

RE: rpm and tranny

Belt dressing dry's the belt, thanks though.
Noise: It's definitly a metal on metal type sound. I do not have a lot of tranny expecience so I was wonder if that could be it. i threw it out on the net to see what response i could get. Tranny pump, bearing??? could it be. I was driving with no load and then my rpms creeped up like it's stuck in 3rd. restarted in my drive way 5 days later then the god awful screech not a belt or water pump type noise, i've replace and heard plenty of those and never had a yellow check engine light. It's always good to go to the mechanic with something other than my check book. Thanks folks.

RE: rpm and tranny

Good to have re-assurance thanks. Belt was replace 1yr ago along with fan cluch but could be loose. 3500/4k is ok, it's just sound like the engine is working too hard. Wish I had a diesel or maybe the 6L80e tranny.

rpm and tranny

04 chevy 3500 srw 4.1 gears 6.0 gas 8' bed. towing a 33' TT weight approx 8k to 8500k loaded. I have found that my rpms are around 3500 to 4k going up a 7% 1/2 mile hill doing 45 mph and to maintain 50mph to 55mph on a up hill 1 mile+ 4% grade it's the same. I have the 4speed 4L80e tranny and resently had the check eng come on w/ out towing and my rpm's again hitting 3500/4k going up a 4% grade trying to maintain 65mph. I'm thinking I have a transmission problem. also my temp indicater gets up there about 180*f. Recently started the truck up and got a screetch and loud whine. I think it's sick and i see big$$$$ repair bill coming. any input would help. I will get the code read with in a week.

X2 on the memory foam. Get the right firm/softness. Also, just a safety thought, what about fire retardation ?

RE: What was your biggest RV mistaake?

I read all these posts my no one menetioned these:
1)do not bring the in laws. Nag nag nag plus she has stage IV lung cancer and almost died in our new TT this past memorial day. She's still alive but no more camping. Also, father in law is Incontinent thank goodness for rubber sheets. yuck
2) Grill don't be cheap and test it out before camping that same weekend the regulater was faulty and flames where every where except in the grill.
3) Be prepared for guests we have had friends and family show up at our camp site and stay for dinner. Not a problem, actually enjoyed the company, but the refridge, as you all know, can only hold so much.
