To plug in the 5 hp blender for Margaritas.

RE: I've have a problem

If I remember correctly, you are always suppose to start a hot refrig up on propane and then switch to electric.
I had never heard this...I guess it would provide less 'stress' to the refrig though...anyone else ever heard of this?

RE: Hard folding cover for the bed of a pickup

Not a fiver owner (yet), but I ahve the BAK-FLIP by BAK industries as well. I wish I would have used my $ for a roll-up cover as mine is about done as a functional cover. Within the first year I had to have BAK send me another one because the are where the hydraulic studs attaches was coming apart from the material. Since then the attachment rails have gotten prety damaged from 'dropping' the last third of the cover on the rails and I can no longer 'lock it down' so security has become an issue. I wish I would have spent the extra money on a better cover b/c this one just didn't hold up well -- and I have only had it for less than three years.

RE: baby proofing the doors?

We had the same problem and after contemplating the hook and eye we went with one of the two-part baby latches that one would use to keep a toilet seat down or refrigerator closed. We bought the 3M ones b/c they have better sticky susbstance (in our opinion). One end we stuck on the wall - the other on screen door (metal frame) and with probably 70+ days in the TT over the last 14 months it has never come off nor had any problems with my now 2-year old.

RE: tripod

I think the biggest thing I did to stop movement was make some screw type chockblocks fhat put pressure against tire/wheel to stop the axles from moving. I made them with 4x4 lumber with angles that match that on the tires and a very long screw with washers and wing nuts (to tighten theblocks between the wheels. After my 2nd adjustment on the blocks I have almost no play in the trailer.

RE: RV Wholesalers

We purchached our Rockwood 8313SS through RVWholesalers. I tried to find a local dealer when I was in the market to purchase, but when I went to a local dealer who had a similarly set up of the 8313SS we wanted and I took him the RVWholesalers price he just told me to buy from RVWholesalers b/c he was not willing to budge on his price. He threatened that I would never be able to get service and no-one would be able to help me with warranty issues. I told him thank you and purchased from RVWholesalers anyway (local was +$1500 more than the delivered price). I tried to remind him that I didn't care about local service b/c I move about every 2-3 years (and was only buying from him b/c it was near my in-laws house and was convenient to me for the timeframe).
I have had great service support with RVWholesalers on the few problems I had with my unit. Now I have a unique circumstance b/c I have moved twice since purchasing my TT and am now in GA and far from where I originally had my trailer delivered).

RE: Has the day finally come?

TexasClarks - some of my acquaintances in RV parks ARE an entire family, husband, wife, multiple kids, and dogs - and have no intention to retire any time soon.
Maybe you're putting false assumptions on what you need to do before you live in an RV full time? ;)
Skylos
I agree...just convince the Army to let me do that....and I am will be glad to do that.

RE: Has the day finally come?

As a 'want to be full-timing' I have to say I am jealous. Best of luck - stay safe and enjoy our Great Nation.
Now if I could only figure out how I could FT...first retire, then get rid of kids, then convince wife to 'sell it all' we can't take any of it with us...they all go on my long-term 'to do' list!
Godspeed!

RE: Replacing the Underbelly

I guess it depends on how you would attach the alimunum or sheeting to the bottom of your trailer. I can see some advantage of using some thing that you could actually take off if maintenance/repairs are required and then just screw it back on. I would think some self-taping screws with rubber washers to attach it to the frame could be used. I would be interested to know how much weight that would add to the trailer - and if you have that much weight available before you max out your trailer or tow vehicles limits.

RE: how long does it take you?

From arrival at CG to completion (or the point to escape to pool or whatever) is probably about an hour. That is leveling TT, electrical, water, mat, chairs, gril, etc... Teardown is usually about the same, but we also start the night prior with kids toys, bikes, grill, etc since we try to pull out early in the morning!

RE: 07 Yukon Denali XL Question - Downside Wheels?

You won't gain anything by going to a 17 or 18" wheel. The wheel has nothing to do with the gear ratio. Its the size of the tire ON the wheel that can change effective ratios.
A 275/55/20 is 31.9" tall. A 265/70/17 is 31.6" tall. Virtually no difference between the two.
The 265/70/17 is the standard size on the Tahoe/Yukons that don't come with the 20" wheel option.
That is about what I was thinking as my father and I argued that it would make no difference since the circumfrance of the tire is about teh same and no mechanical advantage for towing. And it sounds like as long as I am w/in the load range of the tires (max load of 2403 lbs) that I should be good. I guess I will definitely need to spend some time at a scale then...

RE: 07 Yukon Denali XL Question - Downside Wheels?

Your trailer may weigh #7300 but you have to add all the people and gear in the tow vehicle to that number when comparing it to rated tow capacity.
I will weight the truck next time we take the dog to the beach...b/c almost all gear (except for maybe a book or two) will be in the trailer - DW, the two kids, and dog are all that really ride in the truck. I want to say that when we weighted it empty before our last move it was about 5,900# and that was w/ car seats installed. If I add our families combined weights of 600 pounds we will be close.
I guess I really just need to weight the truck and trailer together...just a PIA to find a good scale operator.

RE: 07 Yukon Denali XL Question - Downside Wheels?

The truck is capable with a 6.2 V8, 5/6 speed transmission, but only 3.55 rear end.
The Denali comes only with the 6L80 6-speed automatic and 3.42 axle and there are no other combinations available. GM does not even have a 3.55 truck ratio and hasn't for quite some time. You can check your RPO sticker in the glovebox and you will see GU6 and this is the code for the 3.42. The 6L80/3.42 provides nearly the same overall torque multiplication as the 4L60 4-speed with a 4.10 axle. Your GCWR is 14,000 lbs so you will be pretty close.
Thanks, I will look at that. I was not sure on the overall gears, but knew it didn't have the 3.73 or 4.10 rear axle.
Will small wheels and more tire improve tow performance?

07 Yukon Denali XL Question - Downside Wheels?

I will start by saying that I know I will be opening up a can of worms here, but DW not too long ago upgraded her Jeep Cherokee to an 07 Yukon Denali XL - it is mainly to run the kids (and dog) around town and the normal. She basicly wanted a bigger car b/c we do a lot of moving/traveling and have been stationed all over the us - thanks to Uncle Sam!
We did not buy it to pull the TT in the signature, but recently needed to move the trailer and we were in her Yukon. It did a good job for the short trip, and now she thinks it would be ok on some of our shorter camping trips here in GA or down to FL - dog much happier in the Yukon than between the kids in the back seat (80# black lab - Beau). The truck is capable with a 6.2 V8, 5/6 speed transmission, but only 3.55 rear end. Unfortunately, it came standard with the 20' wheels with passenger (lower profile tires) - Goodyear LS2 275/55R20. The vehicle is well below the GCVWR and the trailer weights out on the local trips at about 7300#.
I was thinking that downsizing to some 17 or 18 wheels would definitely help to offset the 3.55 rear end and provide me more comfort if we do decide to use it on some 'local' camping outings. Is my logic correct or am I another fool just looking for problems.
It does have the transmission cooler, air ride suspension, and is rater to pull over 7700# trailer (and yes, I know I am close on the TT weight). Will the smaller wheels and bigger tires help at all? I know that I will need to recalibrate the speedometer and get new pressure sensors, but I was thinking I could probably find someone who has some wheels around 'my neck of the woods' from all the guys who put 'the bling' on their trucks around here.

That is great! Both for you (new trailer w/out the 8-hour drive) and the dealer (a sale and repeat service business). I am glad that it all worked out for you.
Enjoy the new trailer.

RE: FW cap and bugs

Someone told me last week to spray PAM on the front after I wash my unit. Suppose to make the bugs wipe off easy. I might try this.
Butter flavored or regular? :)
will the off brand work?
I have to admit I am a bit skeptical of spraying on nonstick spray on the TT.

I am jealous...but God willing, DW and I will get there someday! We have already discussed doing the full-time thing once both are kids are in college (or at least out of our house)...with the youngest at 2...it is only 16+ years away...by then I should be retired from one career and only working a JOB just so I don't go crazy!
