RE: Antonito, Colorado Ponderosa Campground & Cabins

we camp at the ponderosa whenever we are in southern colorado. be aware the sites on the river are usually booked well in advance. the campground is a favorite with regulars who return every year and stay for the summer. the sites are tight, but jack (one of the owners) is excellent at directing you in. you can email jack or cathy (his wife) for reservations. we like sites 6-10 right on the river. everyone does. it is a beautiful area on the conejos and a great relaxing week for us. antonito has a wonderful mexican restaurant and a small store for supplies.

RE: Who is driving to Alaska this summer?

we leave the second week in june. plan to spend five nights in banff/lake louise, then on to the yukon. at lease three nights in whitehorse to explore the area and maybe drive to haines/skagway. following that we will spend one week in denali (we have reservations in the park) and on to the southern part, i.e., seward, homer, homer spit, kiena pen. and maybe valdez before heading home. we will take advantage of all we can including a flight over denali while there and fishing for halibut. we will head home the last few days in august and drive the cassiar hgh. i think there is not enough time to do everything we want to do but we are sure going to try. maybe we'll see some of you on the road. if so, wave at the texas white dually and fw. a scottie will be in my lap searching to wildlife.

RE: panama city best place for oysters?

Hunts in town has by far the best and biggest oysters we have ever tasted. is usually packed at noon. also, i loved the fried alligator. captains table is half block further but not as good and more expensive. wish we were there. will be in the fall.

time to alaska and denali reservations

we are leaving for alaska mid june. we have reservations for banff/lake louise for 5 days leaving there the 25th of june going the eastern route i.e., alcan highway. a questions for those who driven this before. how much time should we allow to get to alaska considering road conditions and time of year. we plan to stop in whitehorse for a couple of days. also appreciate recommendations r/t campgrounds in denali np. we plan to stay there a week and then south for the duration to seward, homer, kenai pen. and valdez.

campgrounds in or near banff or lake louise

we are finally going to alaska. this seems to be the year with deseil reasonable compared to last year. we hope to stop in banff and/or lake louise on our way north. any recommendation as to camping in the provential or private campgrounds in or near this area. we hate crowds so outside of banff or near lake louise probably would be better suited for us. thanks in advance.

pets in denali?

we are planning our first trip to alaska this summer and will be taking our 15 month old scottie. we plan to stay a week in denali. i have search the np website but cannot find restrictions r/t dogs. pets were discouraged at rocky mt np last summer and that made for a unconfortable experience for us and our grown son traveling with him family pet. i want to avoid that kind of experience if possible. our scottie is quiet, well behaved, and is ALWAYS on lease and picked up after. thanks for your thoughts.

RE: ferry to alaska from either us or vancouver

no mention of pets taken on the ferrys. we have a year old scottie, well behaved and used to spending time by herself when we travel. any expenience with pets on this route. what are the restrictions except having to stay in the rv during certain times?

RE: Hitch Hiker

nuwa has closed production. warranty work will be honored with a staff to maintain that. it saddens all of us that love the company and the products. theirs is a fine rv with an eye to detail and quality. we will keep our hhII for many years. i'm afraid the writing is on the wall for all of us. i'm not sure what type of rv will replace the current ones, but change is upon us with the current economic environment. how sad.
