RE: Just one word. Plastics.

Have you heard the saying? "You get what your pay for". Generally the higher the product costs, the better the quality of the of the pcs. My DP is 12 years old and haven't noticed any plastic yellowing, etc.
Reminds me of a Archie Bunker saying
"... you can tell quality ..... It costs more"

RE: Chevrolet Avalanche

It's a shame that GM is going to stop making them in near future. Guess it is because of low sales and much more expensive than regular trucks. I think they are a nice but would never purchase one. It would make a super nice tow vehicle for your needs.
The current Avalanche HAS the 6 speed automatic Transmission.

RE: Quick connect/disconnect for toads

Not a real big deal but has anyone come up with a good idea for quick connecting and disconnecting the safety cables on your toad??
I currently use the clips that you screw the attached nut on but many times it takes a wrench and or pliers to get it undone. I was thinking about something like a caribiner that has a quick release but they are only rated for 500#. What I use now is rated at 2000# which is plenty for a small towed vehicle.
Most of the time this is no big deal but when it's 100F+ it gets pretty aggravating.
Thanks

RE: Winegard travler Direct and need to change to Dish

You wrote that the price quoted was $275. If that is correct it is the lowest price I have ever seen for this conversion. You don't have to replace the dish, but you do have to replace the arm to which the LNB's are attached along with the LNB's' themselves. Several times in similar threads the advice has been to replace the entire system because it is cheaper than doing the modification.
My suggestion is that if you can get it done for $275, grab it!
I wonder about the electronics? Since the Traveler automatically finds and locks on to the Satellite(s) - even without a Sat Receiver being present, or connected, it is hard for me to understand how replacing the LNBs etc will get the Traveler to seek/find the Dish Sats - if it was set up for Direct's birds

RE: Major Towing Damage Now With video

Sending a wrecker too small. Yes, I've had 'em do that. We managed to do the tow safely though, brains won out over the lack of brawn. Different situtation however.
As for pulling the front end off.. So long as there is no frame damage, and from what you described, I doubt there will be frame damage, I would not worry, the roof seal will be good and solid provided a competent body man does the work.
There is a key phrase in there though, Finding a competent body may may be a bit... of a job.
Uhh
If the insurance paid for the unit _"..A total Loss.." the is no reason to find a "...competent body..." the OP does not own it and can't have it repaired. THE INSURANCE CO owns it now.
Think about it

RE: Fiberglass repair of small hole in roof

Don't use Bondo filler, it is not waterproof. Best repair, scuff area with 80 grit paper, cut piece of mat to fit hole, place and wet with resin. Cut piese of glass cloth larger than hole to fit scuffed area place and wet with resin. Let cure scuff surface with 320 paper and paint.
Bill
This is correct, we repair boats this way. Body filler doesen't
have any strenth, it's just a filler. I would just use fiberglass mat, probably three or four layers,be sure it is sanded as said above and clean, not hard to do. DON'T try
to do it in direct sunlight though, will kick off before you can finish.
BONDO is available with Fiber-Glass in it and it does have the strength need for this kind of repair.. BTW I did suggest BONDO W/FIBERGLASS. And the resin YOU likely use is almost always polyester resin.

BONDOO brand of filler or putty is composed of a polyester resin. BONDO Body filler will absorb only 0.3% water so it is all but waterproof, and if you paint it it is completely waterproof. It is used, along with fiberglass cloth, to repair boats

RE: How do you inflate your Class A tires ?

I just have to tell you all about how great our new Viair 40047 RV tire inflator really is.
We bought it online for about $245 a couple of months ago & have used it several times in the past with great results.
Today I hooked it up to the battery & went around to each of the six tires & topped them off as needed. When thru & packing up the Viair I felt like that old commercial said sometime ago, that you will forget the price paid for the item & be delighted with it for many years to come.
This is probably the best money I have ever spent on RVing.
Now we can air up any tire, any time & any where as long as we have 12 volts power.
Just had to share my thoughts on how to air up our tires ??
Later.

RE: Medicare Advantage vs. Meidcare w Medigap

My ex employer (I am retired) furnishes a MC Advantage Plan (AETNA) at no cost to us. It is an "OPEN" plan where we can go to any Dr we want any where in the country. If we go to any Dr that accepts MC assignments then all we pay is the MC co-payment. In our case our Dr does not accept MC assignments nor is he in the "AENTA Network" He is however enrolled in MC. He will file claims and he will receive the MC payment and we pay the same MC co-payment.
We looked at the MC Supplement plan (offered by our employer) - It does cover W/O co- payment but it costs $700 a month - that's $8400 a year and never has our co-payments ever reached that level. I have had several major problems such as a AV Malformation that took 11 days in the hospital to find and fix. I also have had a stent and a Coronary Ablation - both times 2 days in the hospital, 2 surgeons etc.
I am aware (some of you seem not to be) that there are different companies offering different plans. So I would not give advice based on my research because it may not be relevant to someone else. Some Advantage plans are "OPEN" some are not - some have a monthly cost some may not. Some have a limited area of coverage some do not, my Aetna MC Advantage plan does not.

RE: Robbed in Oakbrook, IL

Turned out much better than I'd feared from your headline. If you HAD been robbed there is always a chance for personal injury. Sometimes even when you do everything right bad things happen.
Correct
robbed past participle, past tense of rob (Verb)
Verb:
Take property unlawfully from (a person or place) by force or threat of force.

RE: Letting cars sit unused for four months..?

You might be better-off by getting a "battery-tender" and let it keep your car's battery charged and happy.
I would not get the cheapest one available but something like the
Battery Tender 021-0123 Battery Tender Junior 12V Battery Charger

Amazon has them

RE: New Solar Panel Tariff

Hi CA,
They should not be allowed to apply the tariff to panels they have in stock. That is unfair.
Well if you are in business - and want to stay in business - you know that you cannot sell products for less than replacement cost.
On a personal level would you sell your house (which you have "in stock") for less than it would cost you to buy it today?? I think not.
An old joke - a auto dealer was advertising vehicles "- Below our cost." When ask how they could do that the answer was
"... Well we loose a little on each car but we make it up on volume".

RE: Dish Network

Well you could do as this suggest but then that is cheating as you want two people to have the service for the price of one. At least that is the way I read the OP. They will be happy to create an account for each of the rigs. What difference does it make as it could be 2 stick built houses, 2 boats or any other number of combinations.
Just get two receivers. They don't know their physical location except what you tell them.
No it would not be cheating - it would be stealing - and could be prosecuted if the Satellite company chose to do so.
