RE: Fogged head lights.

I don't think polishing compound is going to do much good in ridding condensation on the INSIDE of headlights. This is what the OP said was his problem.

I have no idea where you might be in Florida, but I would recommend you take your coach to Josam in Orlando. They are fully equipped to diagnose and, more importantly, to repair any suspension problem you may have.

RE: Michelin Tires

I recently replaced all 6 tires on my motorhome with Michelin tires, bought through the FMCA program. In discussing the tires with the manager of the Michelin dealership where I had the tires installed, there was no mention of Michelin paying for any collateral damage that might result from a Michelin tire blowing. Brings to mind the old saw "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

I'm way out of date, but I tow a 2000 Honda Accord V6 with AT four wheels down. I've towed the Honda for 94,000 miles without any problems. Unfortunately, Honda revoked its OK to tow Accords 4 wheels down sometime in the mid 2,000's. Honda CRV's are still OK to tow 4 wheels down and they are a popular tow vehicle. I also understand that Fords can be towed 4 wheels down and of course, there's the 4 wheel drive Jeeps. You might also find a fairly late model Saturn which can be towed 4 down.

I've got to believe lots of folks on this forum are paying $1500 PER MONTH on their motor homes. How bad could it be? Junk it and you're out just $1500. Go for it. You're not likely to get another deal as good as this one for the rest of your life.

My hazard lights have a separate flasher from the turn signal flasher. In other words I have 2 separate flashers under the dash. If you also have 2, turn on your turn signal and listen (or feel) which flasher is active. The other one is the one you want to replace.

RE: how old is your toad?

My toad is a 2000 Honda Accord with 147,000 driven miles on it. In addition, it has 93,000 towed miles. The car is in excellent shape and I expect to keep it until the wheels fall off it or my wheels fall off me, whichever comes first! I have an M & G brake system so the brakes on the toad work when towing. Consequently, tires, brakes and other rolling components have had to be replaced in the 240,000 combined miles driven and towed. I love my Honda and am disappointed that Honda no longer approves towing it 4 wheels down.

When I drove a school bus we had to do a pre-trip inspection every day which included a full air brake test. It was standard procedure to "pump down the brakes" when parking the bus at the end of the day. Many busses were parked at schools and kids sometimes got into the buses. If the brakes weren't pumped down and the kids pushed down the yellow knob, who knew where the bus might end up. It happened more than once! I have often been surprised to read about RV drivers and the ways they have found to insure that their children or grandchildren, or even their dog, couldn't accidentally push down the parking brake knob. The easiest and most foolproof way is simply to pump down the brakes.

One major problem with CNG is distributing it. If you hook up to a natural gas line, you have to compress it or liquefy it and that takes a lot of time. If you transport it as CNG you can eliminate the high pressure compressors required, but then you're faced with storing high pressure gas/liquid. Promising? Yes, but not in the near future. Fairfax County in Virginia had several natural gas powered school buses years ago and a natural gas fueling station. The problem was waiting for the gas to be compressed and took forever. Commercial vehicles (and even RV's) aren't going to wait long periods to take on fuel. It's a slow enough event using high volume diesel pumps.

If you don't have any set plans for wintering in Florida, I would suggest that you check out The Great Outdoors in Titusville, FL. It is an RV and golf resort and offers just about anything you can imagine. For openers, the Kennedy Space Center is in Titusville and Titusville is home to one of the largest birding festivals in North America. The Great Outdoors (TGO) is less than an hour from Orlando and 45 minutes from Daytona Beach. Summer weather in Titusville is about as good as it gets in Florida. There is almost always a breeze off the ocean and Titusville is not tropical. If cruising is of interest, Port Canaveral is just 30 minutes from TGO and is one of the largest cruise ship ports in the country.

Once you have the mechanical end taken care of, Custom Paint & Auto Body, Inc. in Red Bay, AL can handle the fiberglass work and the painting. Bruce Deaton is the owner and is a master with paint. He can easily match the paint on the coach without having to repaint the entire coach. Bruce does great work and is very reasonable.

RE: Change from 255/80/22.5 Michelins

You might consider Michelin XZA2Energy in size 275/70/22.5. I replaced the original Michelin 255/80/22.5 tires with these. No change in speedometer necessary. The XZA2Energy tires are load range J. The tread is 2" wider than the 255/80's and it is a much beefier tire. The prime consideration is spacing on rear duals.

RE: Replacing a broken fog light lens

When I found a broken fog light lens on my 2003 Allegro Bus I contacted Tiffin to find out where I could get a replacement. Tiffin gave me the name and phone number of the manufacturer of the fog light. I called them and they sent me a new fog light - no charge. When I asked how much it would be I was told "Tiffin is a good customer of ours and we like to take care of Tiffin's customers". Sometimes good customer service does roll downhill.

The original tires on my 2000 Accord were Michelins. When I replaced them I decided to try Goodyears. Got near top line tires. Driving out of the shop, it felt like the tires were square. I immediately returned to the shop. The tires were checked for runout and 2 were found to be defective and replaced and all 4 tires were rebalanced. Tires still weren't great, but I could live with them. Within about 20,000 miles the tires were so noisy you couldn't listen to the radio at 70 mph. I finally had enough and went back to new Michelins - end of problem. Local Honda dealer told me that my complaint with the Goodyear tires was a common one. With my own experience and the myriad of "rivering" complaints with Goodyear tires, no more Goodyear tires for me.

I'm not sure what a golf caddy is, but I do know what an electric golf cart is as I have one. There is no way you're going to store my golf cart in the basement storage area of a motorhome. By the way my golf cart has 6 six volt batteries seats 4 people, has a full roof and complete side and rear curtains. If a golf caddy only has one battery, as is implied by the OP, that may well work with a motorhome.

RUNDLC - I have a built-in flushing system on my black tank which I use very time I dump. The problem is that you can't see when the tank is clean; you have to guess. In my case, I wasn't flushing long enough. Now that I can see when the effluent is running clear I know when the tank is clean. By the way, I learned that it takes a lot more flushing to get it cleaned than I would have thought. Bottom line - I solved my problem with faulty readings for $10.

When you say "I flushed the tank several times" how did you do it? I used to have a problem with full readings after I flushed. Then I bought a short clear plastic length of sewer hose which goes onto the sewer drain. You then attach the sewer hose to it. I found that I hadn't been flushing nearly long enough. In other words, I wasn't really getting the tank flushed clean. With the clear sewer line I can now see when the sewer contents are clear. No more bad readings. The clear plastic sewer piece cost about $10.

RE: Lights on Refrig- meaning?

If the refrigerator is working properly on the generator or shore power, but not on propane you may have dirt or metal scale interfering with the burner. It's easy enough to check. Turn the refrigerator off, go outside the coach and open the frog compartment. You will see what looks like a chimney (of sorts) and at the bottom of it there is a small metal enclosure. Open that enclosure and make sure there is nothing keeping the propane flame from burning. It's common for metal flakes to fall onto the flame area and prevent it from igniting. If that area is clean, you may have a defective sail switch or perhaps the least likely cause of your problem, a defective control board.

RE: Toad front tire failure

I believe that tire rotation is critical on vehicles that are towed and I wouldn't go more than 5,000 miles (total towed and untowed) before rotating. A blowout is an extreme failure, but abnormal tire wear can be minimized by rotating tires often. I drive a 2000 Honda Accord which has been driven for 143,000 miles and towed an additional 94,000 miles.
