RE: Question about painting inside RV

You'll need to use oil based Kilz first. After that, you can use interior household paint (water based). The water based stuff won't stick to the vinyl wallpaper covered paneling in most rvs.

RE: First pull, test runhoo

While I agree that you should check your setup, there is a HUGE difference between a passenger vehicle (expedition) and a heavy duty truck (F250). Simply put, the HD truck is made for hauling and towing. When I upgraded from a 1/2 to a HD truck years ago, there was a huge difference. I am a Dodge fan, and there is a huge difference structurally between the 1500 and 2500/3500 configuration. While the outside body make look similar, internally, there's lots of differences. Both trucks had plenty power, but the HD just feels way more solid.

RE: Dump station questions

Most have signs instructing folks to use a hose. Some are too lazy and don't care. Think of the mess. There has to be splashing and spraying of liquids that should otherwise be confined to the sewer system. It's not being courteous for the other guy who has to walk in that area. Some folks are selfish and have no courtesy for the next guy.

RE: Just returned from camping..grey water tank question.

My sensors rarely are accurate. The sensors are literally just screw posts with wires connected. Any little piece of trash on them can cause a faulty reading. When you flush the toilet, you'll be able to tell about how full it is.

RE: straight line winds moved camper, must have twisted jack

Use this as an opportunity to get an electric tongue jack. I have owned several Barkers, and they are worth the investment.

RE: New here. Need help with washing/detailing TT

I use the same car wash soap I use on the truck. It's Turtle Wax Car Wash. Works great. The streaking is likely because of the Simple Green. It's great cleaner, but it's a degreaser.

RE: Need suggestions! Please help if you can

I tow with a 2500 Ram, and I have a similar length trailer. My rig tows better with a little bit of tongue weight. I have a slight, really slight, lean to the tongue rather than a perfectly level trailer. That setup gives me about 13% tongue weight, and it's best for stability. If you have too little tongue weight, the rear of the trailer starts to fight the truck and give you that wagging that you're getting now. It becomes really noticeable at highway speeds. I had the same issue when I first upgraded trucks. There just wasn't enough weight on the tongue. If you're using the weight distribution bars, try going a link less on the chains. It took a little fine tuning before I found the sweet spot.

RE: A/C Tripping circuit breaker

Replace the breaker. Once they get hot and trip, they trip very easily. It's a cheap fix. About $10-13 for a new one. I had similar issue on my unit. The breakers, sadly, are cheaply made and fail easily.

RE: Help how heavy of a trailer can i pull

The towing capacity isn't the problem. The problem is going to be the transmission that isn't designed for any towing. A friend of ours bought a small RV to tow with his wife's van, a Kia Sedona. He was well under the towing capacity even loaded (we went to the scale), but the tranny just didn't make it. On a short one hour trip, he boiled the fluid out the tranny vent tube. He was never over 55 mph, but a little bit of wind did him in. The engine handled it fine, but the tranny balked.

RE: Does this look like delamination

He won't get 11K with that damage. Talk about a can of worms. You just never know what kind of damage lurks behind that. When new units do this on the lot, they wholesale them out to the "outlet" places. The outlets give no warranty, and the insurance company ends up paying for the unit. I do some PR work with an RV company, and they won't keep a unit on the lot that has delam issues. It either goes back to the factory for an overhaul, or they wholesale it out and the insurance totals it.

RE: [Updated] Wow...Delam on New Jayco Eagle

Even new units could have defects. That's why they have warranties. I don't know about you guys, but I've owned MANY new cars, and I've never had one that didn't have to go back to the dealer for adjustment and repair. Anytime you build something so complicated and complex, there will be issues.

RE: rubber roof cleaning

One concern with the pressure washer, even when being careful, would be driving water in the openings up there. You have sewer vents, a skylight, a regular vent, an AC unit that isn't that well sealed, and a refrigerator vent. Last time my wife helped me wash the roof, she directed the regular water spray at the refrigerator roof vent, and we had a nice puddle inside.

RE: rubber roof cleaning

My instructions suggest Murphy's Oil Soap or Spic and Span. I've also used the commercial roof cleaner from the RV supply. To be honest, none of it really works magically. I've owned three RVs and none of the roofs have stayed sparkling white. I clean them twice a year and rinse them thoroughly every time I was the unit. In the South, the humidity is high and the trees drop sap and the roof will develop the black moldy stuff. My neighbor used bleach to get his roof white again, but I think bleach is way too caustic. It's bound to cause some ill effects.

RE: White lithium grease for the hitch?

You can grease everything BUT the friction plate on the anti-sway device. The sway is controlled by friction, much like a brake, so greasing it would defeat the purpose.

RE: Does this look like delamination

It is definitely delamination, and it looks like it was caused by a leak along the front corner where the front and side meet. If the caulk is not maintained, this happens. It's an indication of poor maintenance.

RE: Have I plugged up my black tank drain?

Odorless is a natural bacterial product that eats waste. It's sold at the RV stores. It's basically the same bacteria that sewer treatment plants use to dissolve waste. It works really well. Plus, always use plenty of water. A fuller tank will flush easier. The more water, the cleaner it flushes as the water is the vehicle for the waste and water.

RE: White lithium grease for the hitch?

I used white lithium grease. I also carry a roll of shop towels in my toolbox. After I unhitch, I wipe the ball clean and put a ball cover on it. It keeps me clean, and it keeps the dirt and sand from sticking to the grease, which would then get catch in your hitch and gunk it up.

RE: Options for black tank flushing?

Try the Flush King. It is a back flush device. It works really well and it is cheap.

RE: Left Water Heater on While Driving

All you did was burn up a little propane. No issues... I only drain mine when it has been sitting a while and during the winter to prevent freezing. Otherwise, why go through all that trouble? It's not like I'm going to drink the hot water anyway. It does help to drain it occasionally. I like to flush mine about twice a year. It helps the sediment get washed out. Plus, some units use an anode rod. Those need to be checked a few times a year. Replace when it looks mostly eaten away.
