Monaco Windsor 2005 with no 12 volt power

This friend of mine has these problems:
1) RV 2012 Zantrex RV 2012M inverter/charger acting up when plugged in. It's clicking on and off with a solid green light on a second or so,then solid orange light, then 3 ornage flashing lights on front. Power going on and off.
2) Has no 12 volt power at all.
Has anyone any suggestions? He replaced the 4- 6volt batteries today which were 2 years old and run right down to a dead position.
Thanks.

RE: CAN/US$ Exchange

Just use a US Visa card issued by a Canadian Bank and have all the statements paid from a US account you already set up in your branch. There's no 2.5% exchange from visa as the monies are being paid from a US account. You don't want to use a Canadian Visa/Mastercard to buy in US funds as that's where the exchange comes in PLUS a 2.5% service charge from Visa for the exchange.

RE: Shaw Satellite Users

This is our first trip south with the Shaw dish/receiver since Bell decided to cut everyone off going down south. Shaw's customer service is miles better than Bell.
Shaw told me I should get the 75 cm dish for going down south. I'm in Las Cruces NM now and my signal strength is 98%. I purchashed a really good tripod with individual leveling legs and a flat top to put the compass which came with it to line the stand up to the direction needed. You then level with the legs and the bubble. Then put on the dish by screwing it on the flat top. Put on your winguard satelitte finder and you will be within 2 degs of where you should be by tweeking the angle and direction. The tripod is a converted suryeyor's tripod. No more wood shims, stones etc for leveling. This is my 3rd time since Oct 22 I have set this up with no problem.

RE: Verison Wireless "At Home Service"

Hi "ME AGAIN" Chris!
Yes, the park has disconnected their in house phone service. Apparently, many people in the park have already signed up for this phone service. I already have a Verison bradband device for internet so it's not problem adding this on. I think it's a great feature for the price. We call alot back to Canada and our toll free calling card number will work as I verified that with Verison as along as it's a toll free number, it's included in the unlimited minute usage per month.
No Chris, you have to bring the cell phone as you have the nick name we all call you. Bring anything you want but the cell phone/Iphone is a must!
It's good to see people are having good reaction to this communication device.

Verison Wireless "At Home Service"

Has anyone signed up for this service?
For people who are not aware of this service, it's a wireless box with an antennae on it. Your cordless phone or regular phone is plugged into the box with a regular phone line and is operated just like your phone at home. You get a dial tone just like at home. Verison gives you your phone number. You can plug it into a regular 110 V wall receptacle or it has a battery backup if you are not plugged in. It's $35.00 for activation and $19.95/month for any calls in the USA unlimited. You can take this anywhere you are travelling and where there's a Verison signal tower.
We're from Canada and with our cell rates so high we thought this would be a good addition for the park we go to. You can also call 800 toll free calls also. This would not eliminate our cell phone though but just enable us to cut down the minutes on the plan we have for the US.
The 2-90 days vacation periods also apply when we are back home during the summer.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there has this and have any reviews on how it works?
Thanks.

RE: How often do you grease your U joints and slip joint?

Hello everyone.
I found if I fill the slip joint until it comes out the end of the yoke I get grease slinging all over the place and makes a real mess. I was told to not pump too much grease in the slip joint. I pumped in about 18 pumps of grease and left it at that. I've done this for the last years with no problems. Before I had to scrape off the grease from the frame etc since it was being thrown from the slip joint.
Anyone else have this happen to them?

How often do you grease your U joints and slip joint?

I have a 2004 DSDP with a Spartan chassis and a 370 HP Cummins.
Can people give me an idea the frequency you grease your coach for U-joints and slip joint?

Bluff's Run RV Park in Council Bluffs Iowa

Did I hear right this park has opened again? I tried to look for it on Google Earth but couldn't see it anywhere. People have comments on Rv Park Reviews August 2012 but this is the first I've heard it has reopened. It';s a good spot for an overnighter and dinner.
Can somone tell me where it's located and how to get there off I-29 heading south?
Thanks.

RE: Shaw Direct on Expressvu 20" Dish on SD Mode?

Shaw are very helpful and I should have changed from Bell years ago. I'm kicking myself for not doing this. The service reps are very accomodating not like Bell when you can't understand what they are saying and most times are rude. Their policies are not competitive to Shaw, Shaw's rates are cheaper, their receivers are better and the whole experience is far superior to Bell. Complacency does funny things.

RE: Shaw Direct on Expressvu 20" Dish on SD Mode?

I don't think so as the LNBF is different but you also have a SKEW to deal with on the Shaw dish which the Bell dish doesn't have. I have a 24 inch Bell dish and there's no SKEW setting on the dish so you can't rotate it.

RE: Cleaning pleated curtains around front window?

Ours has no lining. It's a light coloured type of fabric hard to describe. Seems to be an atificial fabric of some sort. They were a standard curtain in all Newmar DSDP MHs in the 2004/5. Someone said don't dry clean but here people have said it works great. We have to rent a rug cleaner to do the carpet in the MH so maybe we should try the cleaning with the hand tool laid out on the floor on towels. I know they are dirty with dust.

Cleaning pleated curtains around front window?

We own a 2004 Dutch Star by Newmar.
Can anyone tell us how to best clean the front pleated curtains without damaging them and losing the pleats? Someone told us not to dry clean them as the pleats will disappear.
We have put this off for a couple of years as we were not sure what to do but we need to clean them.
Thanks

RE: Confused

If you are in the US over 182 days over a 3 year period being:
Full days 1st year
1/3 of the full days 2nd year
1/6 of the full days 3rd year
If this comes to be more than 182 days you should fill out the form.
The break even is 120 days a year. This works out on the formula to 180 days over a 3 year period so you don't need to fill the form out.
It also applies if you are in the US over 182 days in a calender year accumulative.

RE: Confused

Read the Snowbird Association book on this subject.
What you say is correct but if they being the US Border Patrol/IRS report you being in the US for more than 182 days in a calender year even on mutiple trips or you have been in the US over a 3 year period for more than 182 days using the formula, they, being the IRS can deem you a US citizen for TAX reasons. They can pursue you to collect taxes owned on your world earnings including your pension/RRSP's if one has this etc and fines/penalties can be levied for non payment.
I have found most Snowbirds don't want to fill out this form 8840 and don't take this seriously but that's everyone choice.

RE: Confused

It's total days in a year no matter how often you go across the line. You can't come back and start another 6 months, that's absolutely false.
I heard through my lawyer of two people who have been contacted by the IRS on this issue in our area. It's becoming more pronounced the enforsement of this through the Homeland Security and the IRS. It's too late to tell the IRS you will NOW fill out the form. There can be big time fines for late filings etc. You have to hire a tax lawyer to straighten the whole thing out. There's also some sort of treaty break which can be used but it can be messy.
By filling out the form if you qualify over a 3 year period on the formula, it tells them where you have a closer connection.
People really need to take this seriously and check it out. It's IRS form 8840.

RE: I just switched over to Shaw from Bell TV

I couldn't believe how much better the picture quality was with Shaw. It was amazing. Looks like I made the right move and they bend over backwaards to help with NO contract.
Bell have been bugging me to come back. I told them again and again we want to use their service in the US and they don't want us to do that plus the new nimiq 6 satellite is up with no programming anyway, the conversation was useless. They still kept saying, how do we get you to come back? They said if I come back within 6 months there's no 2 year contract. HUH?
I told them not to call me back.

RE: I just switched over to Shaw from Bell TV

Just got my 75 cm dish. They sent me a 75 cm satellite stand as well but will probaly go for a more elaborate one which is much easier to set up.
The Shaw people really have been great so far to work with and they are cheaper than Bell and no contract.

RE: I just switched over to Shaw from Bell TV

Since I've cancelled my service with Bell last week, they are calling our house twice a day trying to see what it would take to "come back?" I keep telling them you cut yourself off with me and many others who are in the process of moving to the competitor because you don't and can't now accept signals into the U.S.
They don't seem to understand and keep asking what can they do to get us back? I got really annoyed and asked the last one what he didn't understand about no programming in the U.S by them with the new satellite or them cutting us off if they find out we are accepting a signal in the U.S. They still didn't get it so I hung up.
We are being hounded by the call centers. I guess they get an extra bonus if they get the cancelled customer back.
I just shake my head. I have to tell you Shaw is way ahead of Bell in customer service and accomodation, way, way ahead. I used Bell for 8 years.

Shaw's large 75 CM dish and tripod stand

Anyway, after many phone calls and holding on line, I told the customer service rep I would be going to the southern states like AZ, Calf and S Texas. All 3 I talked with said I should have the larger 75 CM dish in order to get a stronger signal dowm there so they are sending me one.
I asked them about the tripod and asked if they had a tripod with the larger pole to hold this size dish. They said they did so I ordered one. Both are on the way to me as I send this. I checked the Shaw website and the tripod on line shows the tripod holds a 60 CM dish I guess with the smaller pole? Maybe they have another tripod for the larger dish with the larger pole. He said on his order he was specifying a tripod for a 75CM dish.
Anyway, my question is, has anyone got a tripod to hold this Shaw 75CM dish and if so, where did you get it in case I need to source another one and send this one back?
I know some people will come back and say you only need the 60 CM but I have the 75 CM coming now so I'm looking for a tripod to hold it with the bigger pole?

RE: I just switched over to Shaw from Bell TV

I just had a call from the Bell loyalty dept asking me why I dropped their service. I told them I was retired and was going into the states. I told them you don't like that so I changed to the competitor.
I also told him I understood they put up another satellite in May and there wouldn't be any service in the U.S. anyway and he yes sir you are correct.
There you go, end of conversation. They being Bell are going to lose a ton of business from Snowbirds.
