RE: sold TC and diesel -here are prices

DW fell going out the back door frontward (if that's a word). When we exit that way, only half of your foot hits the step, half sticks out over air, and if the foot slips, boom boom to the ground. When carrying something, drink, food etc., very hazardous. This is even more treacherous when the back step is off-set due extended receiver. On the Yellowstone, the fold-down step cannot be mounted directly below the back door cuz the receiver prevents it from being there, so the step is moved to the right, and offset, but then it is directly below the ladder! This makes going out with something in your hands downright dangerous! Engineers, or wanna be engineers, should have seen this and done something better with the design. A fold down handrail or such would have helped a lot. We cannot imagine how difficult it must be for folks to go up and down those crazy scizzor steps, especially as we get older and more un-steady, let alone maybe a bit "happy" during happy hour.

RE: sold TC and diesel -here are prices

We were sorry to see the TC go, as we have had 3 Lances and 1 Yellowstone over the years. Sure enjoyed the flexibility on trips, parking on streets, in national parks, etc. in smaller spaces than the C can handle. Got a bit tired of the small bathrooms, however, as I'm 6-1 and no elbow room in the dry shower. Also, got a bit tired of sitting at dinette as we never had a couch to stretch out on. I was a bit worried if we could sell the Yellowstone for enuf money to make the switch, but we got lucky I guess. I wanted to sell the combo truck and camper, but that was asking too much. Had gas rig (Chev 454) before the Duramax diesel - no comparison! Do the diesel thing everytime if you can. I wish the normal size class C had a diesel - Euro models have a Mercedes diesel, but rig is too small, and Super class C has the Duramax, but rig is too big and too expensive. So, we settled for E450 - will just have to see how it pulls the toad, especially in the mountains. I hate compromises when it comes to rv'ing.

sold TC and diesel -here are prices

We did the dirty deal. Sold TC and truck and moved to class C. FYI, I got $24,500 for 2006 Host Yellowstone, loaded with all options, (bought it new for $29k in '07) Had a lot of interest in it, but few would put up a lot of money today for a nice slide-in camper. And I got $25,500 for 2005 Chev 4x4 LT diesel dually crew cab with 50k miles (bought it new for $46k in '05). Could have gotten more for the truck but left rear quarter panel had a crack. Sold truck on craigslist and sold camper thru local rv dealer on consignment for 5% commision. Bought Winnebago Aspect, really nice class C. Reason we "down-graded" to class C is that DW ('da wife) took nose-dive out the back of the TC last Fall. And she hadn't even been drinking - yet. She demanded we get something with fewer steps to the ground. And I am very obedient....sure miss the truck and that nice diesel, ...Tom

RE: Newbie to Class C site - need info on Winnebago Aspect

Thanks for all the info on the Aspect. We really like the floorplan, bought it from inlaws who have stopped rv'ing after 50 yrs on the road in various rv's, and they say they really liked this one. 26 ft model, we wanted that size so we can get into national parks and national campgrounds easier than with larger units. Will do some reading on the various websites you'all have suggested. Thanks again. Tom

Newbie to Class C site - need info on Winnebago Aspect

Have had truck campers for many years, and class C previous to that. Does anyone have specific info on the Winnebago Aspect class C - 27 ft. We are buying one and would like to know anyone's experiences with this model. Tom

Moving from TC to Class C

Well, it is time. Need more room inside the camper than the TC has available for longer stays on the road, need more room to stretch out the long legs and more room for the dog. Going to class c with slide, only 27 ft so can still get into national parks and national campgrounds. Loved having the four TC's since 2002 (three Lances and one Host), highly recommend to anyone the great experience in truck camping. Will need to move over to the class c page on this website now. Selling the TC and truck on consignment at local rv dealer; hate to lose money on them so will just need to see what the economy brings us. See ya down the road, in my class C. Tom

Duramax and Allison class C makers

Hi, class C folks! We have had truck camper for many years and are looking to move to Class C. We like our Duramax diesel and Allison tranny, and I would like to know what Class C makers use the Duramax diesel and Allison tranny. Thanks. Tom

RE: Stinger rework

I would be very concerned about the turnbuckle arrangement you have coming loose and the hardware falling onto the roadway while you are underway. No matter how tight you make the turnbuckles, they will get some slack. They always do. I would replace the hooks with eyes with hardware that can attach more securely and will not come off if you get some slack. I'm speaking from experience, as I've had them come loose in spite of getting them as tight as I thought I could with my 48" extension and Titan 2.5" receiver and also the Superhitch.

RE: Keeping Refrigerator Lit While Underway

Clatter - did you try the other types of baffles before you installed the one in the photo? I have the same problem and need to do something. Ice melts, beer warm, etc. on every trip when we stop. Had rv shop install small baffle inside rear access panel to ref, but still a problem. Only time it didn't blow out is when I put a furnace filter behind the louver panel - had some mild burning of the filter so I stopped doing that. Again, did you try any other baffles?

RE: 2009, 141 nights traveling in TC plus Table of Cont

Sleepy - you say you avoid CG's and Wal Marts. So, where are you staying for next to nothing??

RE: Got robbed....

Always ask about price before filling. Some places charge a flat rate for a propane cylinder regardless of whether it is completely empty or partially filled. I found out the hard way, getting ready for a trip I had my bottles topped off, the guy charged me the cost for full bottles!! Here in the RV park we spend the winter in Mesa, AZ, the propane guy that comes around with a huge truck does the same thing- he says he doesn't carry any scales to measure it, so he charges the price for a full bottle, regardless of the quantity.

RE: USAA RV Insurance Coverage

This is some great information. We have had USAA for many years for vehicles and RV's including truck campers which are more difficult to cover. We especially like the year-end dividend. I recently tried to transfer my two boats and two waverunners to USAA (from State Farm) and they said they no longer covered watercraft, and they connected me with Progressive. I put 5th wheel on USAA policy last spring '08 and they never said anything about not covering rv's. I will definitely check with Progressive for my 5th wheel and truck camper, however, after reading these posts. thanks. By the way, it is 75, bright and sunny with wonderful blue skies here in Mesa, AZ, where we spend the winter. Jealous??
