RE: Said Goodbye to the HTT; it's now 4 Wall Camping for us...

We went from a Roo 23SS to a Rockwood Ultra Light 2701SS for the same reasons you cite. Could not be happier. 2 years later, the trailer is still in perfect shape and we love not having to mess with bunk ends. We do not miss the open feeling because our 2701SS feels very open and airy. I'm not a TT vs. HTT snob, just found that the TT works better for my family.
The Ultra Light Line seems well made. Can't compare to other monufacturers because we have only owned Rockwood trailers. But since we have had no issues in 2 years, I'd say it's good. If I owned the truck I have now when I was shopping for a TT, I would have gotten the Signature Ultra Light 8317SS with the quad bunks, but it was way too heavy for my 2005 Tundra.
So, I think you will enjoy your 2501SS.

Thank you for this info. I was wondering what their plan was for this winter and now I know that they don't know.

RE: looking for an opinion

I pulled the same 27 ft trailer with my 2005 4.7L Tundra and now my 2008 5.7L Tundra> About the same gas mileage towing or not. But it sure is nice pulling with the new truck. Not just the drivetrain, but the whole truck is built better for towing.
For the comment above about the tall 4.30 rear getting worse mileage: the 6 speed tranny takes care of that. My 2005 Tundra went 64 mph at 2000 rpm. My 2008 goes 74 mph at 2000 rpm. I get nearly identical mileage between the two. Kinda nice considering the extra 100 hp and torque and a 4.30 rear.

RE: Best way to get water?

I have 2 methods that have yet to let me down.
1. 250' of the flat hose and a water thief. Only time that didn't work was at a park where the water at the sites wasn't turned on yet.
2. 25 gal cooler with a hose I attach to the cooler drain to get the water into the trailer. The cooler sits in the bed of the pickup and is slightly higher than the fill spout on the trailer.

RE: Quieting down a generator

A Honda (inverter model) is very quiet when running in "Eco" mode.
When it ramps up due to a load it will rival a Champion.
JC
Disagree! I have run my Honda 3000 at full load and my neighbor has a Champion 4000 he runs at full load (power outage). We had to scream at each other standing next to the Champion. Normal conversation next to the Honda. Not even close. To say otherwise is folly.
But, I bought mine for camping, he bought his strictly for power backup. I don't mind one bit that he has a loud generator when the power is out. I would loathe it if he were camping within 100 yards of me.

RE: 2007 Tundra Tow Vehicle with 34 foot trailer: the numbers.

The weight police are people who post over and over trying to get their point across with no real data on the components structural capacity or durability other than a manufacturers label.
What do we call the corollary:
"The ______________ are people who post over and over trying to get their point across with no real data on the components structural capacity or durability other than a guesstimate or opinion."
I'd like to start applying the term soonest.

RE: GVWR

But, there are legal ramifications if you exceed the GVWR listed on your registration.
Example 1:
2008 Tundra DC 4x4 SR5
Manufacturer's GVWR = 7100 lbs
Registered GVWR = 10,000 lbs
Cop pulls you over for speeding. He's thorough and weighs your truck. It weighs 9,900 lbs. No ticket for overweight.
Example 2:
2008 Tundra DC 4x4 SR5
Manufacturer's GVWR = 7,100 lbs
Registered GVWR = 6,000 lbs
Cop pulls you over for speeding. He's thorough and weighs your truck. It weighs 6,600 lbs. You get a ticket for overweight.
All the state cares about is that you pay for what's on your registration and do not exceed that. The registered GVWR has almost nothing to do with the manufacturer's ratings. You can't register a SRW pickup at 30,000 lbs. But I know I could register my Tundra at 10,000 lbs in Ohio.
That's fine for the legal begals.
That's not fine for structural integrity. Some on these fora insist that because the state will allow you to register your truck at the higher weight, that alone means the truck can actually handle the higher weight. YGTBSM. Worst arguement I've ever heard for towing overweight.

What they DON'T do is add any more weight carrying capacity to a vehicle and they tell you that right on their product.
Didn't say they did.

RE: 2007 Tundra Tow Vehicle with 34 foot trailer: the numbers.

If you fill it to 50psi, it is at 50psi even under load. You do not increase air pressure by compressing.
That's just wrong. My air bags are at 5 psi with nothing in the truck. After I hook up the trailer, they are at 22 psi. I added nor released any air. Sorry, you are dead wrong on this particular aspect of your arguement.
I cannot explain why tire pressures don't change with load.
I cannot explain if air bags effect spring rates.

RE: Someone explain this logic (malaria)

Apparently it isn't in Africa. Bill Gates is spending $200M to find a cure. If it's treatable, wouldn't they just treat it in Africa instead of letting a million kids die?

Someone explain this logic (malaria)

Heard on the news today that malaria kills over one million folks in the world, mostly kids in sub Saharan Africa. Did some lookin' and it seems that malaria has been eliminated in most other parts of the world with DDT. Apparently, DDT has been banned. So, nigh on a million kids in Africa get to look forward to dieing each year because the environmental folks think that's better than using that awfull DDT (which apparently you can drink and not die). And Bill Gates has donated $200 million to find a cure.
If I had $200 million to spare, I'd buy them some DDT and let them all live.

RE: Towing Jayfeather 23B

Yup, you should be able to tow a trailer with any vehicle sans sway control and not experience sway. Just the basic laws of physics at work. You could hitch my trailer up to a small SUV and it would not sway under normal conditions. Now, I can also load my trailer in such a manner that it would sway behind a semi tractor.
I have experimented with my hitch weight a lot. I can set it up to be anywhere from 300 lbs to over 1,000 lbs, depending on how I load the trailer and what I have in the tanks. The trailer weighs 6200 lbs. If I go below 650 lbs hitch weight, it starts to wiggle a bit. Behaves beautifully at 780 lbs. Even without the Equal-i-zer.
So, what is your trailer weight and hitch weight?
