RE: Best, cheap Insurance

Try AARP Hartford if you can. They were the cheapest for us by quite a bit.

RE: 40' Newmar 400HP vs 370HP Cummins

The 400 is most likely a ISL 8.9 engine, 1200 lbs of torque. The 370 might be a ISC 8.3, 1050 lbs of torque. That's where you would feel the difference.

RE: Refrig temp

Our Norcold does the same thing. Seems like it started after the recall procedure. Will be cold for 4 or 5 days, then all of a sudden my oj & milk isn't real cold. Had it back to our dealer twice, they leave it run for days, temp is cold, and say its working normally. I thought maybe it was doing a defrost cycle????

RE: Aluminum wheels

I have alum. on the M/H. Cleaning them is easy because they are DuraBrite coated. I have uncoated alum on my truck, and it really stinks trying to keep them looking shiny.
Steel wheels with the stainless simulators are real easy to keep looking new.

RE: Hankook tires

Unless there is something wrong with your current tires, seems like you are replacing them pretty early. I've read on the Michelin website that max useful life of their tires is 10 years. I have 275R80/22.5 Michelin XZE's dated Nov 2004. I was going to replace them this year. I had a leaking tire, had it repaired, turned out to be the valvestem seat. Tire guy looked at the tire inside and out, and told me it looked like new. So now I'll wait till next year.

RE: PROPANE 80% FILL

A propane tank needs "head space" in the tank. Propane is a liquid that boils at a very low temperature. The propane lines & appliances use vapor, not liquid. The vapor in the top of the tank is used in the RV. Think of a tank as a pressure cooker. Once the head space is filled with the vapor, it stops boiling. As soon as some vapor is used, more liquid boils until the head pressure stops it. It needs this space, (the 20%) for the vapor.
I hope this makes sense.

RE: Fuel mileage question

We have a Horizon 40. Dash air if its enough, generator and basement air when its not enough. I have a 400 ISL and trust me, that engine can't even tell when the dash air is on. If you want good mpg, slow down to 60, I consistently get 8.7 to 9.2 mpg, though I bobtail, nothing being towed.

RE: RV diesel inspections in New Jersey

My old gasser Class A had to be inspected, but my Diesel Pusher does not. Took it to inspection lane in Manahawkin and was told no inspection is needed.. Also asked about the roadside diesel emission tests that are set up for trucks and was told they are only for commercial vehicles, not RV's. Just drive by 'em and wave!

RE: NORCOLD refrig. problem

Just had a recall on our NorCold. Make sure yours is not on the list. There is a danger of fire.

Surge Guard 50amp Portable Suppressor

OK, so I just had my almost $400 supressor shipped to me. Never gave it a thought, but the day after receiving it, I get the CW email and in it was a surge suppressor anti-theft device you place over the suppressor. Are these necessary? Do fellow RV'ers steal surge suppressors?

RE: Enclosed trailer: How to tie down car?

My Haulmark trailer is 8.5 feet wide. You can open the door to get out, it's tight. D-rings recessed in the floor are great for attaching your straps.

RE: Tires

This is why I'll never buy Michelin. I've had this happen to me several times and I solved the problem really easy. I quit buying them. Haven't had a problem since!
