RE: Morro Bay, CA.

Morrow Bay can be tough due to a lot of seasonal sites. Take a look at Campgroundviews.com. They have videos on everything in that area: Link

Stuck with Rude Neighbors Argh...

As I type this I am currently rocking out to heavy metal and base. No it is not my music it is our lovely neighbors music. Apparently it is payback for us reporting the awful sewer smell emanating from their leaking sewer hose. Very tempted to fight fire with fire but I will just wait it out until we leave tomorrow.

RE: Claiming a first come campsite

I will say that it ticks me off to arrive at a site and see a lawn chair or cooler sitting there with nothing else. They are taking a site and not using it for a day or so and to me that just aint right. If you want to be the "first come" then set up and use the sight! Steve Really?....maybe they've already been enjoying their paid-for site in a smaller RV ( for days, for all you know), and just drove their RV over to the nearest grocery store, or to visit other areas in the park to hike...or see some local sights, planning to return later for dinner and a good night's sleep??? There is certainly no requirement I've ever heard of that after campers have selected and paid for their sites that they must occupy it continuously 24/7 during the reservation! To answer the original poster, most of us leave chairs, and some use an orange traffic cone to indicate that we've paid for a site for that night. We witnessed this first hand at Valley of Fire SP. A family from Germany had stayed the night and were staying the next night but only left their baby stroller while they drove the Camping World rental over to the main area of the park. Some not too nice weekend warriors showed up and decided the site was available and simply pushed the stroller into the road! Before I had a chance there were two other neighbors already righting the wrong. In regard to the OP question: for nps and fs campgrounds possession by a camping unit is generally required.

RE: Miles per day

I echo the other comments and add that if you must go really long plan long breaks in between. Otr drivers require regular breaks, so should you.

RE: What effect is Sequestration having on the parks?

Elk Mountain Campground at Wind Cave NP will be closed this year. When I met with the Super., Mr. Davila, and his staff for discovery, they presented financials that the camp operated at 65% of income to cost. As the campground is not an essential part of ,or of necessity to the Park, closure was their only option within the fiscal rules. Their rate policy did not match expenses for this camp. Below cost usage fees to operate the camp is the reason for the closure there. If it was a cost neutral feature, it would be open. Why don't they raise the camping fee then?

RE: New Lance, Refused Delivery; Your Opinions Please

Is this an old thread? OP bought a 2011 model year tc that has sat for that entire time? I think your mistake was making the deal in the first place. The dealer should refund your deposit or apply it to another unit.

RE: What effect is Sequestration having on the parks?

We have been to Zion np, Arches NP, and Canyonlands np no visible changes at any of these locations.

RE: how to safely deenergize capacitor

Two pages of bad information has certainly made for an interesting read. The capacitors in an AC unit, start, run, and fan, are non-polarized and are not going to hold a charge. These are not power supply filter capacitors. It is also impossible for a capacitor to "recharge" itself if it is not connected to anything. You obviously have never worked with one then. Mine sure did have a charge in it . The screw driver suggestion is dangerous, best bet is a resistor, next best is a modern voltmeter. Mine drained the charge in about 30 seconds and it was nice to watch the progress. After the drain you can go an extra step and tape off the terminals.

RE: Pin box or airbags?

I have airbags and a 5th airborn pin box, the airbags just keep the truck level Same here and agree. The airborne pin box isolates trailer pourpousing from the truck.Combined with ezflex trailer suspension and balanced tires on the trailer our rig can float on smooth pavement.

RE: Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It...

Awesome feedback and excellent points. I will mention the class A idea but agree that it will sit allot so the trailer might be better. The power jacks are a great suggestion. They were last at the Folsom dealer and their prices were reasonable compared with Reno.

Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It...

Is to help provide guidance to my parents who are looking for a new fifth wheel. They started looking before speaking with me and started out at a dealers lot. The sales guy placed ideas in their heads that are simply wrong and no matter what I say, evidence I provide, and references I suggest they are stuck on what this dude planted. So they are looking to spend between $30-$40k (personally I think they can find exactly what they need at half that range). I will layout the planted "facts" for reference. 1. Keystone Cougar is one of the brands nicest fifth wheels and will hold its value better than most. 2. Buying new alleviates major headaches over owning a fifth wheel. 3. They will be fine fitting into forest service and nps campgrounds with a 35' rig (they will spend most of their time in the Eastern Sierra Nevada) 4. If they do buy used they should go thru a dealer since they have the best inventory (contradicted by the guys crappy inventory conveniently placed next to the new rigs) Their real world requirements and use habits: 1. Boondocking at FS NPS parks 2. 1x10 day vacation per year plus 6-7 weekends per year 3. They have a '10 F-350 SRW 4x4 4. This will be their one and only rig and they will not be trading up. 5. My FIL is disabled (back/ neck issues) and they will be traveling with a dog. They live in the Reno NV area so feel free to even reference rigs that you would suggest from Craigslist, Private Party, or dealers in that area. Your mission should you choose to accept it is to help me guide them down a reasonable path. Anything above is fair game for your topic. I will simply copy and paste this thread in my email back to them. If you were in my shoes what advise would you give them? Thanks in advance

RE: Is it just me? Or do you not talk about Health Issues ?

It is just a function of their daily experience. We have relatives like that and the underlying issue is that all they have in their lives is medicine doctors and drugs. It is sad.

RE: Quick Connect Water Hose Adapters?

We use the plastic fittings and have for several years now. I advise against the brass fittings sold at big box retailers since they are not intended for drinking water and may have high lead content. There are metal ones available online that are drinking water safe but they are pricey. The plastic works fine.

RE: Mobile Suites towed with short bed Dodge?

Yes with big caveats: 1. you will be exceeding pretty much every rating on your truck. 2. You would need to change your wheels for 19.5 commercial tires. 3. You will need airbags 4. check the weight rating of your slider hitch may be close. If it were me I would not do it and my truck is lighter ie more payload than yours.

RE: Registering a new 5er Purchase Made Out of State (CA)

Thx for the response. I now remember having to physically take our existing trailer to a dmv office because it had never been registered in Ca. Regarding why we remain registered in CA; reason 1 that is where the majority of my customers are and were before we went fulltime. reason 2 that is where our family is and where our health insurance is based. I have seriously considered moving everything but as of now the math does not make sense.
