RE: first time RV buyers

If those are the two you have narrowed it down to, make a list of the pros and cons. Search this website for issues related to either and make your decision.

Need campground 10-40 miles from Boothbay Maine

I am looking for a campground 10-40 miles from the Boothbay Maine area. I have a friend I would like to visit and see the sites. Need full hookups as the kids want one more vacation with mom and dad. Would like waterfront for the kayaks if possible. I see one in Wisscasset and one in the Edgecomb/boothbay area but would appreciate any comments on either.

RE: Standard House Refrigerator in a MH??

One word ; Resale. I would never buy an RV without a fridge that didn't work on both LP and Electric. Just my humble opinion. I want to be able to travel and have a fridge that works!

RE: electrical problem while generator running.

Yes, there is one in our Onan 3600. Check your owners manual because the circuit breaker can be hard to find.

RE: End Of Camping Season

Upstate NY. Camping as I write this and plan to go twice more before Halloween and then pack it up, winterize and donate the left over food staples to the Food Cupboard and then leave the peppermint oil cotton balls to deter any critters.

RE: Finding a dump station

Since you don't knnow how the previous owner took care of the tank, I'd leave the water in both the grey and black tanks. I'd add some Calgon Water softener and some detergent to clean them out good. Then the next time you go camping, just visit the dump station first and dump them. The sloshing around while you drive will loosen any hardened matter and/or paper and will help everything empty when you do go to do so. Our previous trailer didn't have good black water maintenance and had a paper pyramid in it. We had to use lots of water ans softeners to get everything dissolved and finally everything cleared out.

RE: New York area

We stayed there; it is fine!!! You'll need to stay in the lane marked for higher traffic. I know there are parkways you cannot take an rv on but we had no difficulty. We went from Rochester area and took the route near West Point and crossed the river just north of Peekskill and took that main route 9A south to Croton. Once there, the commute to NYC is easy on the train and you end up in Grand Central.

Keuka Lake State Park in NYS - need advice

Can anyone provide me with some good sites for this park. I would need electric. I understand it can be wet in spring when I am thinking of going in 2010. Are some loops better than others? Thanks.

RE: Bass Pro Shop Ohio

Most Bass Pros allow overnight camping. I've never seen a dump station, however. If you are in Ohio, some of the Flying J's have a dump station.

RE: Bike Rack Question?

Most trailer bumpers are NOT meant for a bike rack and bikes. The bouncing up and down along the road, pulls the welds apart. Like the previous posters have said, buy one that can be welded to the frame. It will cost a bit more but you will arrive at your site with the bike and bike rack still on the back. Otherwise, you can get a rack that fits in your truck and there are others who have been ingenious with ones that mount over the propane tanks on the tongue.

RE: Looking in western NY

Turning Stone is great but I'm not sure they have alcohol. They didn't used to but maybe things have changed. Good spot because they bring you via bus back and forth from your campsite to the casino/restaurants. One other thought would be Watkins Glen and stay at Clute Memorial Park. You are withihn walking distance to the restaurants and bars right in town and the Lake is across the street. Those are the ohly two the come to mind.

RE: Where to stay near New York City

Croton on the Hudson county park in Croton. Catch the train three minutes from the campground and you will be in Grand Central in 45 minutes. Full Hookups and about 50 bucks a night. We loved it there. So convenient. Yes Liberty Harbor is closer but it you want full hookups and a more "camping" setting, Croton is the place. I enjoyed the train ride back to Croton, gave me time to unwind.

RE: Campground review?

There are other review sites out there but I think most use rvparkreviews.com I find it the most reliable but find that some of the campground owners will find someone (usually a seasonal) to post an awesome report after someone who actually camped there posted a not-so-positive report. I just saw that on Shady Oaks in New York.

RE: Buffalo-Syracuse, NY, Toll Costs

There are many beautiful roads that will take you through this part of NY. Look at Route 104, Route 31 or Route 5&20. Many small towns but no tolls. We New Yorkers hate the toll road that was to be paid for 40 years ago but the powers that be found this was a gold mine. My personal suggestion would be take 690 North out of Syracuse take this up to Cato-Meridian to Route 104. Left on 104 and keep going. Takes you all the way to Lockport then north to Buffalo.

Sticky black tank valve

We are seasoned Rvers and have never had this problem but my 2007 Jayco fifth wheel has a sticky black tank valve. It pulls very difficult when opening to dump. I know I can get the lubricant but I would appreicate any suggestions on the best way to get this working smoothly again. Thanks.

RE: Suburban towing 5800 lbs - recommendations?

Sorry to report that your vehicle will be overloaded. Your gear, people and trailer will be too much for your tow vehicle. If you want to get into camping I would look at a large hybrid that woudl acomodate everyone but be light weight. Is there any chance you could get an Ford Excursion or something that would be able to pull the trailer you are looking at.

RE: Letchworth state park NY

Letchworth State Park is a beautiful park no matter what the season. I believe all the sites have electric, water spigots are nicely spaced throughout all the loops. There are dumping stations on the way out of the park. No problems for larger rigs if you get a site that is long enough which reserve americal will tell you about. Some sites are pet loops and some are NO pets so becareful if you have pets. You can easily access many overlooks and trails without being a hiker. The park is very well marked with the overlooks and such. Be sure to check out the Mt. Morris dam, very intersting. Make sure you have groceries before you get to the area, as not much is around. It is about 17 mmiles from Mt Morris to Portageville (the top and bottom of the park). The bathrooms are also fairly clean unless it is extremely busy. We usually go at least once a year. Have fun.

Need a quieet, relaxing place for a vacation? We found it!

We will be leaving tomorrow after spending a wonderful week in Holmes County Ohio, home of 40,000 Amish. There are no motels, hotel chains, restaurant chains, billboards, neon lights or any touristy stuff here. Lots of Bed and Breakfasts, home cooking establishments, antique malls, boutiques, crafts, beautiful furniture everywhere, baskets, great hardware stores and the lumber mill (Keim) was a real experience like no other. We drove about 300 miles over five days just looking at the landscape, visiting the various shops, and stayed in a wonderful, adult, full hookup rv park. We also visited Warther's carving museum and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This was the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Can't wait to come back.
