Need a quieet, relaxing place for a vacation? We found it!

We will be leaving tomorrow after spending a wonderful week in Holmes County Ohio, home of 40,000 Amish. There are no motels, hotel chains, restaurant chains, billboards, neon lights or any touristy stuff here. Lots of Bed and Breakfasts, home cooking establishments, antique malls, boutiques, crafts, beautiful furniture everywhere, baskets, great hardware stores and the lumber mill (Keim) was a real experience like no other. We drove about 300 miles over five days just looking at the landscape, visiting the various shops, and stayed in a wonderful, adult, full hookup rv park. We also visited Warther's carving museum and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This was the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Can't wait to come back.

RE: Shower Wall and Pan Joint - Seal or Not?

We have an Eagle and do not have caulk there. I think it should be left alone.

RE: Question about quality

We had a Nomad, two Sunlines and a Montana Mountaineer. All bought used and none ever had so much as something go wrong that wasn't a nickel or dime (30-50 dollars) to fix. We always took good care in picking out a used and then taking care of it. Now we have had two Jayco fifth wheels and are pleased with the quality of those as well. I don't want to name any real entry-level units but they are out there. However, some of those can be okay and last people a long time. Perhaps you just have a lemon, but the problems you are having are significant. I'm glad you have a dealer willing to work with you. I would personally contact the customer service at the factory by phone and be prepared to send pictures and documentation of what happened, when and what was done. Ask your dealership to GIVE you free of charge an extended warranty for your inconvience. The cost to the dealer for those warranties is nothing and they make a lot of money when you buy one.

RE: New York City area camping

Croton-on-the-Hudson is a county owned park with big rig access near the Croton-Harmon Station. and then 45 min to the city on the train and it leaves you in Grand Central. RVparkreviews has all the information on it. I think it is about 50 bucks a night with full hook-ups. Traffic to get there is easy too.

Amish in Holmes Cty OH ; campground and road advice

We are looking to visit the Amish area in Holmes county Ohio and then a trip to the Football Hall of Fame. Would like some information on a nice campground and easy access as we are concerned about any low bridges, etc. We have about 5 days to do this and the drive to the area is about 7 hours from home. We don't need a lot of bells and whistles but would like a clean nice park with easy sites to get into. Any other suggestions on what to do is appreciated as well.

RE: Amish in New York state

Many Amish in Penn Yan and there is the windmill craft farm to visit whch is very nice to see. Also Amish around Randolf New York and Pope Haven is a nice canpground to stay at if you go over there. Then there are Amish along the St. Lawrence River up near Potsdam.

RE: New RV park designed and getting flack from neighbors

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been to an upscale RV park that had loud music after 10 pm, drunkard making messes, bright lights, or generators running, as 50 am electric does not make noise. They are proceeding slowly but the need is in the area and there are several ways to get to where you are going. NIMBYS have always ruled here and we have lost lots of revenue because of this. Funny the land could be slated for a golf course without any other approval. Tell me how many cars would be up and down the road from March to November and then they all drink and drive home on the road!!!

RE: Awing 'flap' partly rolled on to awing tube . . .

Happens all the time from the heat. We try to reach up before putting the awning up to pull it down. Sometimes it just blows down after a while.

RE: Titanium

Yep, nice and nice and heavy. Their claim to fame is the pin box and how the cap of the fifth wheel goes way over the pin box and leads to easier towing and maneuverability.

New RV park designed and getting flack from neighbors

Hi, Our small town in upstate NY has a family who would like to build a new RV park from scratch. They have the land and the machinery and have researched their idea thoroughly. However they are gettingn a lot of flack from the neighbors who live on a pretty desolate road. They plan to have 100 sites to start and half will be seasonal. Rates will be in the 30-35 per night. Probably no tents unless with an rv on site for the kids. Full hookups with 50 amp. These folks have looked at the good parks in NY and plan to pattern after that. Note the park will be at least 1000 off the road cannot be seen from the road, speed limit is 35 or 40 and it is mainly a farming area. Here are what the neighbors are saying and of course none have been to an RV park. trucks with trailers flying down the road too much traffic the property values will drop crime from the city (30 miles away) will come to the road trailer trash people moving in lots of noise from campers etc.. How would you respond if you were the prospective new owners?>

RE: Thinking of moving into a 5Th Wheel.

Easier to tow. After towning a TT for years we would never go back. Get one big enough and you won't worry about loss of space in the back of the truck. Get a slider hitch if you have a short box. I love the height in ours and the space with three slides.

RE: Looking for Butternut squash recipes

I don' t have a recipe but have had butternut squash raviolis. I know it is involved but might be fun on a rainy day. I'm sure there are numerous recipes on line. Personally, I like it with butter, honey, salt, pepper and nutmeg. UMM

Changing from manual to automatic awning - HELP

Okay because I am very short and husband is disabled we have decided to change out the manual awning for an automatic. Please let me know if you have done this and what was involved. Of course the RV dealers want to sell me an entire new everything but I'm thinking that some parts are usable in the new set up. I've read the pros and cons but in our situation this is best. Our fiver is 34' long, high profile. We'd go to one that does pitch down. Let me have your ideas! Thanks.

RE: Hwy 15 to Rochester,NY

It is actually so much better than it used to be. You shouldn't have a problem at all and it is direct. Little towns but if you aren't in a big hurry it won't be an issue. Usually has some construction somewhere as improvements are being made all the time. PM me if you need some ideas where to stay in Roch. area.

RE: Trade in old diesel

Ditto. Yes they will give you $ 4500 if the money holds out but then you need to spend 35K to replace it. Not in my budget.

Manual to Power Awning,.. ..Good Decision?

We have a 2007 fifth wheel which we plan to keep a while. It has a manual awningg that is very high. Anyone replace it and how much do you like it or don't? What holes were left in your fiberglass? What is the approx cost?

Home Security System....... Do you have one.

We are debating getting a home security system; like Brinks or ADT, etc. It seems like I'm waving a red flag that says "we are not home" when the fifth wheel leaves the side yard. It is pretty noticeable when we are gone. When the kids go back to college no one will be home when we are camping.

50 Amp Service Installed at Home

We recently built an out building and we ran electric to it. We also added a 50 amp service next to the garage where we park the 5th wheel. Now using shore power will be a breeze. If only more CG's had 50 amp service.
