RE: Tornado Rotary Tank Flush - Winterize?

Ok.. that may be best..
do the rv places sell the adapters for doing that? Last year I made one but it didn't work all that well.

Tornado Rotary Tank Flush - Winterize?

Ok... first hard freeze coming tonight and I'm still new to the whole winterizing process.
I have two Tornado's and I'm wondering what the best and easiest way is to flush them with rv antifreeze?
I just need to insure the lines are pink when I am done and not sure how I'm going to accomplish this...

RE: What's the Norm - Barking Dogs / Rude Campers

You all think I intentionally picked the site..... given weekend it was the only site available at the campground in the area that had an open spot.
So I had to take what was available. Plus it shouldn't really matter IMO.
I normally select one that is close but not on top of it and one that is mostly level and has good shade, etc.

RE: What's the Norm - Barking Dogs / Rude Campers

Being a new camper ( you said that ), let me list some
Do all these things and 199 more, then come on here and talk about it...
Not sure I follow your point you are attempting to make.
I just wanted to get a perspective on this subject.. didn't mean to turn this into a hot thread.
It's apparent regardless of where I go I'm going to encounter these things. Seems there are some CGs that are good and others where it's more widespread problem.
I guess if I think it's a problem then I guess I'll just report it to the right party if some "rule" is being broke... however, I guess I'll just need to learn not be be miserable when stuff like this happens.
Actually, it does not make me miserable but it just flat out frustrates me....

RE: Minnesota North Shore Campground Suggestions ??

This is good to know. We just may be heading to that area next summer.
If you have never been to the North Shore it is a well worth while trip IMO.
Regardless of the campground and people working there we had a great time and I got some really good pictures.
We looked at the Grand Marais Campground and it looks ok but you are just so far north.
If I had to do it again. I'd start in Grand Marais and do my stuff in that area first and then go down to Two Harbors.

RE: What's the Norm - Barking Dogs / Rude Campers

Ok. I should just shrug it off but it will be difficult.:B
As far as the person who does not pick up the poop... well, I can admit that I've done that before but if I am camping, regardless of where it goes...it gets picked up.
I just wanted other thoughts and opinions... don't want to strike a nerve with anyone but I agree with the one gentleman... folks are just not like they use to be. Seems to be more Americans are lacking respect of their fellow neighbor.

What's the Norm - Barking Dogs / Rude Campers

I'm new to camping this year and have taken a handful of trips and I have came across two things that I'm wondering if I am just being a jerk about it all or it's the "Norm"....
First of all, I have a dog and have been a dog owner all of my life. Love dogs...and consider mine as a part of our family.... however, I dislike non-stop barking dogs... Not the dogs fault, but the owner.
My last week long trip I seen many campers with all sorts of dogs but I seen one camper with three large dogs and they were non-stop barkers. didn't seem that anyone else was bothered by it....
Also, seen one person who has a little dog and he walked that dog all over, even into other campers sites and not once did I ever see him with a poop bag.
When my dog takes a dump ... I clean it up. No one likes dog poop on their shoes or campsite.
Seems some folks think they have a right to just go on and let their dogs poop and not pick it up....
Lastly, on my last stop at at a State Park that I've never been before I found it very challenging to get my camper into the site as the campground was on a hill and they had large curbing and I also had to jockey around a tree.
I pulled in and immediately we became the afternoon entertainment as all of the surrounding campers just stared and gazed at my in-ability to get the camper into the site the first try. I had to go back around for a second shot and I felt so un-welcome it was just crazy. On the second shot I finally got it in but it just made me a bit mad that folks took such an interest but didn't bother to help direct me or anything. Not that I wanted their help but would have taken that gladly over their lookie-loo looks.
Later in the evening we had other campers just walking through our campsite to the Bath house since our site was just in front of it. In fact, one guy just walked by with in a arms reach of my wife who was sitting by our campfire and she didn't even know he was there. Thought it was rather rude. I can see cutting through but walking right through the middle I think is a bit rude, I'd never do that and respect other peoples area.
Perhaps I should just brush it off but those are the two things that really bother me on the last few camping adventures we've taken.
However, we do run into a lot of friendly people too so that is a big plus

RE: Minnesota North Shore Campground Suggestions ??

Well, we made our trek and stayed at the Burlington Bay Campground in Two Harbors.
Very nice view but I'll have to admit that the staff working there were absolutely rude and not friendly at all.
I'm just an average joe with an average camper but a simple smile and a warm welcome can go a long way.
Can't say I'd never stay there again since it's pretty much in prime location relative to Duluth and then going further up the North Shore.
Seeing I have an average or below average camper we needed to use the on-site bath/restrooms and they are ok but when you compare them to some State Parks they are below average in comparison to # of sites offered. As far as the number of shower stalls and I'm not a big fan of the shower curtains and $5 plastic chairs. Needless to say they were not all that clean either in my opinion.
I guess you get what you pay for... I just personally think if they work harder at being more friendly and doing the simple stuff like having adequate bath facilities and keeping it clean they would be top notch for a campground in my opinion.

RE: Dirty Camper -- UGH! - any suggestions

I should have taken a picture before and after.
I worked on it for about four hours and it is now much cleaner. However, I probably should have put some sort of conditioner or sealer back on the roof.
I think they get chalk like and my driveway had chalk like residue on it. I read that or someone posted that this does happen over time so I'm not too concerned.
However, it did need to be cleaned. What happens is the sap is so fine that over time with dirt accumulation it will turn anything black. so most of the roof was black as well as both ends of the camper as they slope down to the front and back.
they can clean with a little elbow grease and some simple green. However, I know next year not put park it in the drive way without a cover or for a very long time.

Dirty Camper -- UGH! - any suggestions

Hi,
I've had my travel trailer for about 9 months and have been using it off and on this summer.
To save on storage I have it parked in my driveway.
Well, I'm so lucky to have those blvd trees that leak sap when it gets hot. Needless to say the camper is absoulutely dirty and I'm having a hard time getting it clean.
It's more so on the top of the camper. The camper has one of those rubber roofs so I'm not sure how to clean it as I don't want to damage it.
Looking for anyone who has suggestions for me...other than parking in a storage shed, which I'll be doing next year!

RE: Wheel Bearings/Brakes

Also, what it he correct way to jack the trailer up?
It's a tandem axle so how do you jack it up correctly without causing any added stress to it?

RE: Wheel Bearings/Brakes

Thanks for the reply....
So net net, if you feel comfortable doing the work and have the tools and such it may be best to do it yourself....
However, I don't have probably a sufficent jack.
What typ of jack do I need to do such work? any thing else I need like jack stands or anything like that?
Never jacked up a camper before.

Wheel Bearings/Brakes

I'm new to camping and have a Grand Surveyor SV-210 Hybrid.
I have not had the camper serviced yet and am making a long trip in September.
I think at a bare minimum I need the wheel bearings, brakes, and tires checked.
I do have some mechanical background. That said, is this something that I should do or leave it to a RV Shop?
I got a quote of $75 per axle for wheel bearing packing from a RV shop.
I also got a quote of $20 per tire from my local Tire shop. However, I'm not sure if taking it to a tire shop is best but then again the RV shop says they cannot look over the tires.
I just don't want to get stuck paying out more than I really have too to have it serviced correctly.
Are the bearings and brakes pretty common items that can be picked up any any car parts store or do you have to get them from an RV shop?

RE: 2003 Forest River Surveyor - Over Air Antenna Question

I got my converter boxes today and hooked them up to the LCD TV I have in my camper and sure enough, I get TV stations now.
TV was older than I thought it was.... Picture was pretty good, at times it was choppy.
Problem solved.

RE: Trailer Brake - Emergency ??

Guys....last question about the trailer EMER brake...
I looked at mine and not sure if plunger is the correct term but when I pulled on it and I had to pull hard the whole plug came out. I thought it was just a plunger switch.
In any event, I am trying to replace the cable and have a question.
I've connected my cable to the plunger on the EMER brake but where do I hook it on the other end?
Do I set it up so that if the safety chains are fully extended that there is enough tension to pull the plunger?
The way it was hooked up before was the cable was the same length as the safety chain and now that I know how it works I don't think it would have ever engaged as there was not enough tension that would pull it out.
Please tell me or show me if you have any pics showing the correct set up.
Thanks

RE: TT Fridge... how to cool it the fastest.. if there is a way

Thanks for the reply.
I filled it with a twenty pound bag of ice and two five pounds and it was ready to go in just a few hours.
I like the fridge fan .... I don't have a light though in my fridge.
Might be able to build something like that but run it off of rechargeable nicads.

RE: 2003 Forest River Surveyor - Over Air Antenna Question

I'll have to look at my tv but I tried the antenna again over the weekend.
Tried it in various up and down positions as well as turning it several different directions and not once did I pick up a local channel that is within 35 miles of where I was at camping.
The TV I have is newer but there must be something with the type of tuner I have.
I guess there is NTSC and ATSC types of tuners.
I watched this video and I'm thinking my TV, although newer, must not have a ATSC type tuner.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x70oio_accesshd-1080d-digital-tv-signal-co_tech
Perhaps this does not have anything to do with it but in any event I think I need a digital converter box.
I emailed a local TV station and this is what they've told me.
Once I get one, I'll report back.
