RE: Need help - Suburban NT-30 furnace not igniting

I agree with the above posts. The motor may not be turning fast enough to close the sail. Bypass the sail temporarily and see what happens, check the limit...VK

RE: Suburban Furnace Outside Air Wheel

I agree with Chris, replace the motor. Some folks also replace the "air wheel" but you might not have to spend the money. VK

RE: Portable/removable Stove Top

One thing to keep in mind is that RV "inside" cooktops use regulated low pressure propane. Moving it outside would work well hooked to the rig's LP system. Most of the BBQ type grill cooktops are high pressure. They won't work on low pressure but some come with a grill. There have been a few grills made in the past (RVQ is one) that worked on low pressure.(discontinued) Olympian makes a low pressure grill that will run on the rig's system but I don't think it has a cooktop option. Your options are: Use a portable high pressure stovetop/grill and switch back and forth or install a low pressure cooktop and use a portable outside, with a separate bottle. Another way to supply gas to the portable would be with a "tee" (such as extend a flow) off the propane tanks before the regulator. It's my guess that high pressure propane isn't code installed in the rig. VK

RE: refrigerator installation

If it will be under a countertop, be sure to insulate the underside of that as well. The venting described above is important. Also, the fridge should be installed from the front to anchor the frame to the cabinet. There are also two screws to hold the back "legs" in place. You might need 12 volt power there depending on the model you choose. VK

RE: Mystery leak

I would try a pressure test to see where it's leaking. I think your theories are correct but it would be worth paying an RV shop to see exactly where your leak(s)are. VK

RE: Thankgiving Fridge Failure!!!

Weissmand, please keep posting on what you find. The solution will help a lot of folks, I'm sure. VK PS: I've had a clean seeming flue drop chunks of rust after moving the baffle...

RE: Thankgiving Fridge Failure!!!

Josh, you "might" be able to access the baffle by removing the fridge vent cover. It has a little L shaped handle on top of the chimney. If you can reach it, have someone with a vacume at the burner and move the baffle up and down several times. Lots of debris should fall out... VK

Bob, try this site: http://repairingyesterdaystrailers.yuku.com It is a site dedicated to vintage trailers. You must join yuku, then join the "group" to post but I'm sure someone would want those nice parts. Wish I was closer to Las Vegas. VK

RE: FANTASTIC FAN INSTALL-CLASS A

Very easy install. Remove the old, inspect the framing, install new, putty tape under the flange, and connect wiring. Dicor for the flange/screws when done. Fantastic is also a great company to deal with-they often replace broken parts free of charge. VK

RE: Thanks in advance!! 12v power question

kobigo, your conclusion is smart. Do a good job the first time. You and your Mom will be much happier in the long run. Dumping the trailer into a septic system that works well should not be a problem. "works well" being the operative words here. Also, the blue chemical does not agree with septic systems, so Green products should be used. As far as legal goes, be careful getting the county involved in too much. They may not allow your Mom to park her trailer on the property without permits, etc. There are waivers for family members, but the costs involved can be quite high. VK

RE: Thanks in advance!! 12v power question

I am also in Western Washington. It gets too cold for the Wave 6 to keep up. Skirting and insulation is a necessity; the floor gets icy. Humidity will sweat the windows but ventilation helps. I also had an outhouse rented. I only used the trailer at night to pee. The tank filled in a week. The outhouse truck pumped it out. Your guestimate at once a month is way low. Power from your garage would be a much better option than a genny, cheaper, too. All of the above is such good advice! Your Mom will get lonely. Sitting in the trailer all day with nothing to do would be awful. I agree that internet, a phone and consistant TV access would be important. One last thing-RVs tend to leak. Triple check the roof and edge trim. Air Conditioners have 4 bolts that can be snugged to insure the gasket is compressed properly. Good luck in your endeavor. Your Mom is lucky to have you. VK

RE: Thanks in advance!! 12v power question

Living long term in an RV with no power is difficult. The furnace fan eats batteries for lunch and dinner; they won't last overnight. Who will start the generator? Anyone who isn't feeling well has trouble bending over and pulling a start cord... Olympian Wave propane heaters take no power but even a Wave 8 would have trouble heating a 32 footer. I almost froze to death in my Holiday Rambler with a 6 and it was not Christmas yet. (WA state) A Magnatek 6300 is not well thought of as a battery charger. It tends to overcharge (and ruin) batteries. You could disconnect the charger and use a battery "maintainer" or replace the Magnatek. I'm sure there will be folks along with suggestions as to brand/type. I think some questions that should be asked are: Will she need a fan or A/C in hot weather? How cold does it get? Will she need the furnace? Does the refrigerator need 12 volts to operate? (that's the electronics, not cooling on 12 volts) If the batteries go dead one too many times, they are toast... I'm thinking that you should look into providing power for your Mother. It might be cheaper than buying a generator? And buying gas for the genny? Depending on circumstances, power is needed if someone is to live comfortably in a trailer. Good Luck and hope your Mom feels better! VK

RE: Thetford Aqua-Magic IV Toilet

If you think the Aqua Magic IV is cheap, you should have seen La Toilette...no parts available. I believe you'll be happy with the Bravura; even tho plastic, it is proven. VK

RE: Thetford Aqua-Magic IV Toilet

Replace the Aqua Magic IV. It doesn't have a solid tube from the bowl directing waste into the holding tank, so "splashes" junk inside the toilet body. The Bravura is an excellent quality Thetford. They also have some china bowl models. Just be sure that the tube is one piece to the toilet flange. VK

RE: Propane stopped working...please help.

I'm assuming you have a trailer? Try turning the tank off and sloowly back on again. Sometimes the new OPD tanks shut off if turned on in a rush...Also check that your regulator is turned on to a tank with propane in it. Do you have propane? I hope this helps. VK
