RE: Construction Along I-75 This Year?

One of the questions folks used to call the State Police (Well they still do) to get an answer to in Detroit want something like this: "I'm going to Chicago is there any construction on I-94?" Detroit is like 300 miles from Chicago.. YES, there is construction.. I don't know where, but there IS construction. What??????

Construction Along I-75 This Year?

I'll soon be making the annual trek down I-75 from Detroit to Naples and just wondering where the construction trouble spots are likely to be this year. Anyone been along there lately? Thanks in advance for any info!

RE: Parcel relay service, shipping to Canada from Camping World

So, the shipping to your door was $79 on a $1300 order? Were there any other costs to get the items to you? If they shipped together, would you have saved any money?

RE: Ideaworks Long Distance Wifi Antenna - It Works!

This one? Yes. That's the one!

Ideaworks Long Distance Wifi Antenna - It Works!

Our RV park has Wifi that is only available within about 100 ft. of the office. A local retailer was advertising this Ideaworks antenna for $29.99 so I thought I'd give it a try and it actually works. We went from no bars signal strength to 4 bars at our site which is close to 800 ft. away from the office. What a great improvement! It may not work for everyone but it sure helped with our situation. We have no "line of sight" to the office. Lots of trees and RV's between us and the office so I really didn't think it would work. Nice surprise!

RE: Discovered a great option for overnight camping.....

I just needed a place to camp for the night. Was near Albany airport in NY. I saw an off airport parking facility that charges $6.50 a day. I asked if I could park for one day and catch some shuteye in the camper. They said sure and placed me down in back out of the way. Entire place is fenced and there is a security guard. And a nice restroom they said I could use. Free coffee in the morning and a soda and snack machine. How can you beat this for $6.50! Every major airport in America has these off airport facilities. I'm surprised I've not read about this from others.... I like this suggestion but the practicality probably depends on the airport involved. I've had trouble finding room for a Mazda3 at the Toronto offsite parking areas let alone my 36' fifth wheel. Not sure I'd want to pull in there and then have to back out.

RE: Windsor to Port Huron with rv

If you're going through the tunnel, keep to the right and go though the truck lane. I use it all the time when going over with the 5er. The bridge does have RV lanes as stated above. I was asking about Sarnia as I know about Detroit. Is there a special lane for RVs Port Huron? When we last crossed into the US at Port Huron in November 2012, there had been some recent construction immediately after the inspection booths which prevented any long vehicles (like RV's) from being able to exit the inspection booth area. There was only one lane marked as RV accessible. It was clearly marked when you got close to it but if you get stuck in the wrong lane in heavy traffic, you could be in trouble getting over to it. This RV lane was on the left side of the car lanes (closest to the Customs building).

RE: Is Shaw Direct Satellite TV Going the Way of Bell?

Do you think there is a shaw exec on this forum going to tell you? While I wouldn't completely rule that out, the last two responses (from Wilco & Hamops) were actually helpful and seemed to have come with fairly direct input from Shaw. Perhaps one of them is a Shaw exec...... I'm no Shaw Exec, but I did make contact with one of their people to get clarification on their new policy. The Spokesperson from Shaw stated that now that their new satellite is service, an Head Office decision was made to no longer support RVr's whether in Canada or the U.S. As of May 31,2013, Shaw will support fixed location customers only and only at the billing address. If you have a cottage and use you dish temporarily there, no support will allowed unless you have a separate account for your cottage with all the applicable fees and charges that go with it . That is good info to have. Now, I will make sure that I always tell Shaw that I am at my billing address anytime I have to contact them for support (regardless of where I am physically). Thanks Hamops!

RE: Sailun S637 or Goodyear G614

For those of you who say that the original poster could run the G614's with 80 PSI, I expect that Goodyear's weight/vs pressure tables might bear that out but I prefer to carry higher PSI in my tires on a trailer with similar weights. I always run 105 PSI and can see no unusual wear after 3 years and 30,000 miles. I know that under-inflation is one of the biggest problems with trailer tires but I've never seen any indication that over-inflation (as long as it is within the wheel/tire's capability) is an issue. Sure, the ride might be harsher but I don't see any evidence of that in my trailer's contents and doubt that 80 PSI vs 105 PSI would be noticeable at all in the trailer's ride quality. I will err on the side of carrying too much PSI rather than too little....

RE: Is Shaw Direct Satellite TV Going the Way of Bell?

This topic has been flogged to death..... SHAW FIZZ, thanks for the info. BUT flogged to death? Seems a little extreme for a simple, straightforward question. Even reading many of the messages within your link, there still seems to be a variety of opinions and lots of confusion. Some of the confusion even seems to be originating from Shaw. My question remains: Is Shaw going the way of Bell??????

Is Shaw Direct Satellite TV Going the Way of Bell?

I'm hearing rumours that Shaw Direct is no longer going to broadcast their signal into the U.S. for us Canadian snowbirds who winter in the southern US. Has anyone heard the details?

RE: Fueling at a Flying J/Pilot question

Pilot/Flying J have a "Good Sam RV Plus" card that you can apply for. It gives you a $0.05/Gal discount, allows you to pump diesel at the truck pumps without going into the cash registers (although it doesn't give out a receipt yet without going in for it). It's not really a credit card since you have to pay it off in full every month - but it does give you 25 - 30 days until it needs to be paid off. I haven't had many problems using the truck pumps although once I did get trapped by a trucker who had fuelled and pulled ahead far enough for me to pull up and fuel. This driver must have then go in for a shower or meal 'cause he was there for over 1/2 an hour before I ended up backing out of the pump lanes - I was lucky no other trucker pulled in behind me! I've found that most of the RV lanes on the passenger car side do not have room for me to pull in/out with my 36' 5er so they are not even an option for me.

RE: flags

We have found a flag called a "friendship" flag which includes both a US flag and Cdn flag together on one 3' X 5' flag. Equal sized but the US flag is on top. Local flag shop in Ft Myers, FL usually carries them. We try to fly it whenever we are set up in the US for more than a week or two.

RE: Email contacts GONE

This exact same problem is happening to me. Exactly as described by the original poster. None of the suggestions offered previously is working for me. It started happening intermittently 3 or 4 days ago but always came back after several tries. Now, the contact list is nowhere to be found. If I use my wife's computer to log into the same Outlook account, the contact list is there on her's as normal. Any other suggestions? Any chance Outlook is having issues? Microsoft is having problems with Outlook contact lists. I finally found verification of this on one of their websites dated today. I guess I'll just wait until they fix it.....

RE: Hate to be embarrassed at border

When we crossed into the US at Sarnia/Pt Huron last November, only one of the "car" lanes was also marked for RV's as well. At previous crossings we had made there, RV's were able to use any of the car lanes but at some point last year, there was new construction immediately after the checkpoint booths obstructing the exits so long vehicles/trailers would not be able to exit. Watch the signs carefully as you leave the Bluewater Bridge and approach the inspection booths. Having to back up your rig in heavy traffic to get in the right lane is no fun (ask me how I know!!!)

RE: dual pane windows & weight

We bought our '06 Cameo with dual pane windows. Weight not a major concern and they do add to insulation and sound deadening. Elimination of condensation on the window glass is a BIG plus. However, our experience is that they don't age well. Three of our windows have lost the seal between the dual panes. That results in a cloudy build-up between the panes that can't be eliminated without either full replacement or utilizing a specialty repair facility that can cut the seal, clean the inside and reseal prior to reinstallation. Either way is very expensive per window. Don't think I would go with the dual panes again. Might be OK if you trade up every 4 or 5 years but if you plan to keep your RV for 10 years or so, these things will come back to bite you down the road.

RE: New Orleans

We just spent 4 days at the French Quarter RV park earlier this month. Was on the expensive side at $75/night with Good Sam discount but the park is so closely situated to the French Qtr, historical graveyards, etc. that we felt it offered good value for the money. The park is very clean and well maintained. It is close to I10 so you hear some traffic noise and lots of sirens but that didn't keep us from sleeping. It's close to a group of subsidized housing projects so I didn't feel real safe walking back to the park from the French Qtr after dark. If it was really late at night (anytime after 10:00 p.m.) I would recommend taking a cab back to the park. There is a large police station just a block away from the park entrance so I'm sure that adds some security to the neighbourhood. This is not a reflection on the park but the streets in the old French Qtr just reek of urine. This city needs to provide better restroom facilities or improve their street/sidewalk cleaning system.
