RE: South Dakota Residency

I have been a South Dakota resident for 8 years now. I have used Alternative Resources in South Falls. They are the experts in this field, and have contacts with bank, lawyer, etc who uderstand the concept. They have been flawless. Call them 800-477-2664 tell them PMB 1293 referred you.

RE: Best way to dry towels and swimsuits?

I am thinking that the campground dryer in the laundry just might dry the wet towels and swimsuits.

RE: Improper Food Storage citation

This thread reminds me of a growing trend in the US. People do not want to accept responsibility for their actions, and blame someone else when at fault. Apparently, food was stored improperly and a citation was issued. It was not, however, the OP's grandson's fault, as the park failed to properly advise them of the rules. The grandson chimes in, nicely making this point for me by stating, "We were not given a bear proof locker and we were not informed that there were special rules for this campground." The burden is always on the individual to educate themselves regarding laws and rules.
Now I will admit that a warning by the ranger may be more appropriate. However, a component not mentioned is the attitude of the grandson. As a retired law enforcement officer, I can tell you a person's mouth gets them in more trouble than anything else. And the more defensive the grandson and the OP is regarding this incident, the more I am convinced that attitude played a role in this story.

RE: Lazydays RV in Florida-WOW

The salesman did not lie. He told you sales were "good." And they may well be "good" depending on your definition of "good."

RE: Dish vs Direct TV

Setting up the Direct is easier than Dish. With the basic (no HDTV) Direct you have two adjustments on the dish..up and down and left and right. Also with Direct you have one satellite to hit. Dish has three adjustments..the first two the same as Direct with the third the skew or tilt. Also, Dish requires you to hit two satellites at the same time.
Something else with Direct, their satellite will appear a little higher on the horizon so aiming among obstructions may be a bit easier.
If you go with HDTV multiple LNB receivers, all bets are off as far as I am concerned.

RE: Just installed JT Strong Arms

You will need a drill and a few wrenches, but well worth it. You could buy everthing you need much cheaper than the dealer's $100 installation fee. They are simple to install.

RE: Taking Travellers Cheques to USA

Travelers Checks are just about a thing of the past. Just about everywhere accepts Visa, so either use a Visa credit card or Visa Debit card. Most places will not accept travelers checks due to the ability to easily conterfiet them. I think just about every bank in the US will refuse to cash them for non-customers. Most retail outlets will not accept them either.

RE: help after a bad almost accident

While any trailer can sway trailers under 24 feet are not very likely to be much of a problem with sway, and should never happen at low speed (40/45 MPH)… your trailer at 20’1” at 55 MPH should not be a problem either…
Not true.Any trailer can sway. Don't believe me....come see my poorly balanced 10' utility trailer!

RE: MEDICAL CARE FOR U.S. CITIZENS IN THE YUKON

I am glad your wife is OK.
I am confused about your thread topic and the question posed in your narrative. If you want to know about medical care for US citizens in the Yukon, I think your experience has already answered your question. If you want to know why the hospitals charged such different rates, the only people qualified to answer that question are the hospitals themselves. I guess you could just realize that different organizations charge different prices. Ever been shopping and compared the different prices on identical items? Same here I would assume.
When you get the bill for the air evacuation, you may be in the hospital your self. I bet that bill will shock the you know what out of you!

RE: unemployment

We are contractors to energy companys in different states. We are going to take several months layoff and are wondering if we would be eligible for unemployment benefits.
Two issues here:
1. You are a contractor, not an employee. As a contractor, you are self employed, and I think are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
2. You are going to take several months layoff. That sounds like you are just chosing not to take some job offers as a contractor for the company. Declining work, then not working, would make you ineligible for unemployment benefits.
Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch!

RE: Roof resealed

I am surprised your dealer did not offer you a paint sealant package as well as a fabric protection treatment. The dealer might have an undercoating service, too. Oh, I almost forgot, they should be able to etch the window glass with the trailer's VIN. I wonder if your dealer also had a documentation charge to add up the repair bill.

Since the OP is Canadian, I seriosly doubt he could be using Verizon. I am willing to bet he is using a Canadian provider.

RE: RV friendly fuel stops

With a 30 foot Class C you can go almost anywhere to fuel up. Remember to watch the overhead clearance and not to turn too sharply and you will be just fine. Going to the truck side of truck stops will cause you some problems, since you will be hard pressed to find a gas pump there. The big trucks burn diesel?.

RE: First time Towing and Rving!

We just did 1500 miles this way with no problems, hardly new the jeep was back there, taking off or stopping. Cherokees are very light and you can get away with out toad brakes if you so desire.
Please know that Cherokees are not "very light" and without brakes on that Cherokee in tow you will probably overload your Class C's braking system.

RE: Your favorite Jax Beach Restaurants?

For lunch, go to Safe Harbor in Mayport. Beach Road Chicken on Atlantic Blvd has been serving chicken at the same location for 50 plus years. Sand Dollar on the river on Hecksher Drive is a fun place for lunch or diner. Gene's on Merrill Rd has the best seafood at the cheapest prices. Very plain but very good. The first European settlement in America was in Jacksonville. Check out Fort Caroline Natonal Memorial on Fort Caroline Drive. Very early plantation life is preserved on the north side of the river at the Kingsley Plantation. Both are National Parks you can check out at www.nps.gov.

RE: Wanna hear a great story???

I wanted to make the story short, so I left out a few details like The coach was suposed to be ready during the week I was in Florida. They took my money and then told me that it wouldn't be ready till the following week. So I had to drive home (1400 miles) and fly back the next week. They were supposed to pick me up at the airport but they renegged again and I had to pay $65 for a cab ride. As I was about to drive away I decided to check the oil and it was filthy and down 2 quarts. They made me wait four hours while they "cleaned" it the very day I got there. They were supposed to fill it up but it came with less than a quarter tank and another B.S.excuse. They got what they deserve......Johnny Hurryup
Those are certainly annoying broken promises. However, you asked for $500 as a consolation for the broken promises and extra expenses you suffered. If you thought it was worth more, you would have disputed more. For whatever reason, you were afforded $2000 dispute that was not contested. You are happy that you got an extra $1500 that you yourself did not think you were entitled to. You even today feel that you got soemthing for nothing as you, in your own words, waited for the statue of limitations to run out.
What goes around comes around.
