RE: Generators

How come guys with loud gens never think there loud? Just because people don't complain don't mean your not peeing off everybody next to you...
How come guys weigh in on others post with out all the details and don’t even add any constructive info to the OP?
I carry a Honda eu2000 for charging batteries when I'm in confined space. We race drag bikes and spend a lot of our summers camped in race tracks where nitro bikes are running all weekend, most have low cost gen sets or every color including black, yellow, red, blue, green, and grizzly, I have camped next to all of them and some really suck to be next to all weekend. The one I recommended is the quietest one there of its size except for the EU6500 model my buddy has that pits next to me. I actually have done side by side comparisons under identical loads comparing my gen set with his so my advice comes from experience. By the way, I am a contractor and currently own about 50 gen sets some that are over 35 years old with cast iron Kohler power some that are built on trailers with Cummins power. I have also been camping since 1973 with a 1973 25' Winnebago Chieftain that I still own, my lance truck camper and the toy hauler. I do believe that I have a valid piece of ground to stand on when I make a generator recommendation. Read the specs, buy the best you can and go camping. If some one gets pissed at your gen set, see if they will let you plug into theirs.

RE: Generators

You could get the EU6500i, that would get you the same output in a quieter package. That's the one I'm looking at, just can't come up with the $$ right now.
More than double the $ for a few decibels? No thanks. The model I suggested has been used often in areas where others are camped with out complaint. The newer gen sets only run hard (loud) under full load. Light loads and moderate loads on a big gen set (like 1 AC) don’t come close to making them run at rated decibel output.

RE: Generators

OP was also looking for unit to provide power during outage. I bought one of these
http://powerequipment.honda.com/generators/models/em6500
for my folks house. It's not as quite at 2 2K units but close and the options it provides are fantastic for what I paid. Wheels and handles make for easy transport in TH and provide great backup at home. It will run 2 big campers at the same time including AC's, catch them on sale between disasters!

RE: Bigger Freshwater Tank

We use the marcerator to pump grey water to the black tank. I never fill the black tank so there is plenty room there. We are 130/50/50. The extra gray water helps "shake things up" on the way to the dump station:W

RE: Greenball Tires, and my Nightmare...

"The new Carlisle ST RH doesn't have a steel ply carcass as the XPS or R250 Bridgestones IMO what wayward1 was referring too."
Exactly!
You have to look at it long term. The best tires “your” $ can buy is your best option. Being blown out on the side of the road with your trailer beat up cost a lot beyond what roadside service and insurance pay. Lost time, aggravation, missed work, high rates, the list goes on. Safety is priceless for me and mine and dare I say all you as I don’t want my tire blowout to ruin your day and mine. Sure it was pricey but I hope I’m done for a long time. We pull a lot of miles heavy and are under schedule restraints as we are not full timers yet, I was betting I would wear these tires out before they timed out but I’m having my doubts now. Guess it’s gonna be OK to be wrong on this one!

RE: Greenball Tires, and my Nightmare...

"Nylon overlay" is the key word that would make me shy away. Is there no steel in them?
No, there is steel.
The actual design is:
Nylon layer on outside
then 2 steel layers in the inside
then ending with 2 more poly layers on top of that.
Here is a nice video review of how the tire is made...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UDHXl95m8Q
XPS Ribs have steel in the casing also. :)
I'm with you! Steel is the deal! I went with heavy duty steel wheels and the Duravis tire X 7. Never looked back. Now have more tire rating than axle rating. Tires run cool at full load in Florida in the summer at 70 MPH and are showing no wear at 10K miles.

RE: Chasing a short in my marker lights

Thanks for all the help! Blew the marker lights fuse (this truck was a box truck and had a fused circuit for the body lights, I have the trailer marker lights tied into this circuit).
The TH is fiberglass sided unit so the markers are a 2 wire circuit (?). Checked out the truck side of the plug, it's good. Trailer side is molded so no checking there. The Markers across the nose are very dim (or not on at all) along with the 2 front side ambers, the rest are about 1/2 of the usual brightness. No ladder available so I’m looking at bulbs I can get to today. In Fayetteville, NC now but have to go over the mountains to Ohio to get home, weather does not look very good so I have to solve this or lay over till I can get home on a sunny day.

Chasing a short in my marker lights

Truck tests good at the plug but when connected to the trailer the markers glow dim. Stop / turn/flashers work fine. Checked and re grounded the trailer to the truck but same result. Problem comes and goes as I was traveling yesterday, at one point blew fuse. Parked in a campground now, everything I can get to looks good, looking for ideas as I am out of them and brain numb.

RE: RV toilet paper now that Walmart is gone?

When parked long term, I only let the grey tank run free. The black is held (valve closed) and deodorant is used in the tank. When I get a couple days worth I run water from the shower down the toilet to get some water with the "stuff" to help flush it out. If your hooked up with the black tank valve open all the time the liquid out runs the solids and leaves the solid behind. After a couple weeks you have a poop/paper dam that the liquid flows over other wise known as a clog.

RE: Where to buy generator

1L243,
It's not bad at all! The 73DB is at full load. It's much quieter at 1/2 load or less where it runs 90% of the time.

We use "John Wayne" TP, it doesn’t take any $#!+ off anyone but does come out of the tanks just fine!

RE: Where to buy generator

2 = PITA If you got a TH and have room, 1 large unit will be better. It will also be better at home for back up. The Honda and Yamaha inverters are great and quiet but I was very surprised at how quiet the Honda EM6500S was. Bought one for back up at my folk’s house. 73DB at full load. The big Honda inverter is 60 DB at full load at near 2X the $. Look here http://powerequipment.honda.com/generators/models/em6500
