DianneOK - that's true.

RE: Workcamper membership worth it?

We never needed to pay for a subscription to find a workamping job.

RE: Workamping With Larger Dogs

You shouldn't have any problem. Just ask up front to be sure pets are allowed. Some FS campgrounds are in protected watersheds where pets aren't allowed. Of course, you'll be the one setting the example for good pet behavior. So find out what the pets rules are too. I know in Forest and most State campgrounds they must be on a 6' or less leash and not allowed to bark incessantly. Many places are starting to restrict aggressive breeds but yours don't fall into that category (at least the lab).

RE: Any site better than CoolWorks?

I didn't know about Cool Works. Thanks for posting. In fact, I'm going to add that to my Workamping Jobs in my Catch-All Drawer. American Land & Leisure still has some summer openings. They manage campgrounds. You get paid and the campsite for free. Some host sites have FHU, some just have water/sewer. Check it out here: http://www.americanll.com/Current%20Openings.html

RE: Camp hosting - biggest hassle

But getting back to the drunks... Word spreads among partiers. We hosted at a campground that had been well known for partiers. There was a college within a couple hours drive. When we got our first taste of it over Memorial Weekend, the Sheriff came out and made a couple arrests and gave a few tickets. So, we put up a sign at the entrance kiosk that showed the number of arrests and number of tickets with the title of Sheriff's Scorecard. We'd increase the numbers, just a little, every week or so (whether or not anything happened). The families appreciated the extra attention. Some cars turned around and left as soon as they saw the sign. Funny, they don't read any other sign. Maybe the word Sheriff caught their attention? (jo)

RE: Camp hosting - biggest hassle

We had a camphost who handled a wild kid on a bike perfectly (imho). She'd talked to the kid, calmly, several times to try to teach him how to be a more considerate bike rider and educate him on the rules. When he refused to be trained she talked to the Dad who said "not my son!". So, the next time she caught him she confiscated his bike and told him to walk. Pretty soon the Dad came over and demanded his son's bike back. She said it's "not you sons!" :-) (jo)

RE: W-2, 1099, or what

Be sure to ask before you go to work for a private park. I've heard that some of them report the site fee as part of your income. It never hurts to ask ahead of time.

RE: Where are you working/volunteering this summer?

We're actually going to take this summer off. Turns out I can get my way by whining for a year or two. :-) We'll do it again but I just need a break from where we are. Would love to travel more though.

Where are you working/volunteering this summer?

Spring is almost here! Are you excited about your summer gig? Are going back to a favorite spot or going on to a new adventure? There are so many places to see, I'd love to hear about them all.

RE: Free Camping

Sounds like a nice gig. But could I get you to explain a little more about cleaning the restrooms once during the 3 day shift? I'm used to cleaning restrooms 3 times a day. Maybe it's not a very busy park or you have another cleaning crew? Or you have extremely clean guests? thanks, jo

RE: Pacific Northwest Ideas for Summer 2013

I bet you'd love Cape Perpetua Campground! It is 30 minutes south of Newport and 20 minutes north of Florence. It is in the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, which has 26 miles of hiking trails; from old-growth forest to tide pools at sea level. The trails are accessible from the campground and there is a Visitor Center within a moderate hiking distance. The stretch of coast between Depot Bay and Florence is the most scenic from Hwy 101 (imho). Between the campground and Florence you have lots of overlooks and several waysides to access the beaches, Sand Dunes, Sea Lion Caves, Heceta Head Lighthouse, and a mountain biking trail in Cummins Creek Wilderness Area. To the north is Yachats, Tillicum Beach (use your car pass from camping to enjoy a day on a wide, sandy, beach), Waldport (fishing and crabbing). Newport has the Aquarium and the FREE alternative is the Hatfield Marine Science Center which is like a mini-aquarium. Buy fresh seafood off the boats or you have lots of choices in restraunts in both Florence and Newport. There are a few, but very good, restraunts in Yachats and Waldport.

RE: Michigan to Sacremento and points above

Tillicum Campground is a great place to enjoy the central Oregon coast from and has access to a wide, sandy beach. It is 20 minutes south of Newport and 25 minutes north of Florence. 5 minutes from Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. The stretch of coast between Depot Bay and Florence is the most scenic from Hwy 101 (imho). Not sure when you are travelling or how old you are. But we manage the National Forest campgrounds in this area; where you can use your Senior card for a discount. We are open year-round and you don't need a reservation if you aren't travelling between mid-June through Labor Day.

RE: Slowing down in the NW

While we don't have craft activities in the park, Sutton Campground, 5 miles north of Florence, might interest you. Florence has a casino, lots of antique shops and restraunts. The stretch of coast, north of Florence, is the most scenic from Hwy 101 (imho). It can easily be enjoyed on day trips.

RE: Workamper & Escapee's...worth it?

Workamper - No; Escapees - Yes. We use Escapees for our Texas Residency and mail forwarding only. The price is comparable to others in South Dakota and Florida but we have family in Texas so it worked out best for us.

Looks like you're not on our list of companies who hire workampers. Do you mind if we add you to our Florida list? http://www.pamperingcampers.com/florida_workamping_p2.html

RE: Possible Position in Northeast Michigan on Lake Huron.

Thousands of couples look for workamping jobs. This sounds like a great location! Who takes care of customers between 9pm and noon?
