RE: Watch out for Walgreen
By the way, did anyone hear about the Mayo Clinic in Arizona refusing to accept anymore Medicare patients? They claim the re-imbursement is too low and the can't afford it. If that's true, I'm sure there will be more to follow if the healthcare bill passes.
RE: Tax deductions for RV loan interest
I believe the standard deduction is more than $5000 for married filing jointly. We can no longer itemize, because we're both 65 now and get extra on our standard deduction.
RE: Antenna Problems
We checked most everything you all have suggested. See, the first night in Amarillo, we hooked up to the parks cable tv and it was perfect. Then when we got to Las Cruces, we hooked up to their cable and it was perfect. WE stayed a couple of nights in Carlsbad, NM on our way home and their cable connection was crappy and only a couple of channels were clear. The rest were snowy. When we arrived in Amarillo again at a different park, we again hooked up to cable and it was snowy there. When the manager told us we had to use our antenna to received the AMarillo stations, we switched back to antenna, turned on the booster and couldn't receive a single thing. When we got home, we cranked up the antenna and voila, there were our Tulsa stations, as clear as could be. Remember, we're 75 miles from Tulsa, but we live out in the country, up on a hill. In fact, we're the highest point in our county. Had no problems with either system the rest of the summer. WEnt to Kentucky, went to Branson, everything worked as it should. Just don't understand why we couldn't get the local stations in Amarillo. I understand why the cable connections in some parks aren't very good.
RE: Another AT&T Storey
Thanks everyone, you guys & girls are great! You basically told me what my hubby has been saying, "they all have their problems." I have stayed with AT&T because I have a very low-cost plan, and everywhere else I go, I can use it. Even across Western Kansas, where there's nobody!!! And to the guy who said always research before you buy, I did. I went online and looked at all the different phones in AT&Ts line and they all had pros and cons. None had over 67% favorable reviews.
It's hard when they're are so many different phones. The gal that worked at the kiosk where I bought this, said the I-phones aren't very good. Just a word to all of you. I wish that AT&T would spend some of that advertising money on updating towers and fixing their problems!
RE: Another AT&T Storey
Well, it says AT&T on the phone, so I don't know. The only other provider around here that is any good is U.S. Cellular and they don't use sims cards. We do have Alltel, which was bought out by Verizon last year, so don't know how they work.
That folks, is our only choices where we live.
RE: Colorado Vehicle Registration Fees
Gov. Ritter probably figures that after signing a law like that tax increase, he couldn't get elected anyway. I sure hope Kansas doesn't try the same thing. But they need money too, so who knows.
RE: I decided on my tires with your help
Hey blue trawler, is Discount Tire the one that fixes flats fee, whether you bought the tire there or not? We had one fixed in Springfield, IL. What size and ply tire is the $198 one? We priced Goodyears last fall for our 37' 5th wheel, and they wanted almost $300 tire for 14 ply, which is what we were told to get for our heavy 5th wheel (14,000#).
Another AT&T Storey
I posted on the previous topic about AT&T and my circumstances have changed. I did go get another phone, a Nokia 6350 flip phone. I liked it all right, but while talking to a customer service rep about an issue I couldn't figure out about the new phone, she offered me a chance to try the internet for $15/mo. unlimited, with no contract. So, I decided to try it. Now bear in mind she didn't asked my zipcode to see what my coverage was in SE Kansas. After playing around with it for a few days, I decided it would be easier to use with a touch phone, so went back to Joplin, MO, 75 miles away, and turned the Nokia back in and got a Samsung Impression, along with a $35 restocking chg. and another $65 for the more expensive phone. This was an early upgrade, so didn't get the cheaper price. Well, low and behold, because we don't have 3G towers in our area, I couldn't use all the features of the internet, like not being able to hear sound on the videos on CNN, Fox News or the Weather Channel. Called them back, and she told me that I wouldn't be able to access all the internet features due to above problem of no 3G towers around here.
I asked her why would they try to sell me a feature I can't use? They don't care, they just want to sign you up for that monthly fee.
So, I told them to take off the internet, I didn't want it. Now, when I try to make calls sometimes, I get the message, "emergency calls only." I have gotten this at least 3 times in the last week.
I called them about it today, and they basically said, you're just in a poor coverage area, and it isn't going to get any better. I would cancel tomorrow, except I just spent all this money on new phones!! Stupid, stupid me. And I do get good service in most other places.
Antenna Problems
Here's a new problem for all you electronics buffs. Last June on our way to Las Cruces, NM, we overnighted in Amarillo, TX. The rv park we stayed in had cable and we had good reception, so didn't bother putting our antenna up. On the way back, we stayed at a different rv park on the west side of Amarillo, a couple miles from town, right off I-70 on the south side. It is a new park, and has nice pads, nicely landscaped and only $17/night. The guy is just trying to get it going. I don't remember the names of these 2 parks.
Anyhow, the 2nd park also had cable, but when we hooked up to it, the picture on our tv was very fuzzy on most channels. They brought another small set over and hooked it up, and the picture was perfect.
We have a brand new high def, digital tv in our rv. They told us we would have to put up our antenna to get the local stations. WE did and couldn't get anything. We made sure the booster was on while on the antenna and off while on cable. Now bear in mind, while in Las Cruces we got perfect tv on the parks cable. I just don't understand why we couldn't get a clear picture on the cable, or pick up the Amarillo TV stations on our antenna. We live about 75 miles north of Tulsa, OK and when we got home, we put up our antenna and could pick up all the stations from Tulsa in high def, on our antenna. So I don't think the problem lies in our rv. It is a 2005 Cedar Creek 5th wheel. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could have been?
RE: Television Translators
Since when has DirecTV and Dish started requiring you to sign a two-yr. contract?
We've had Direct since 1999, but I don't recall having to sign a contract then. Are they trying to go the way of the cellphone companies? I think it's ridiculous and people ought to start refusing to sign a contract just to get their service. I had a AT&T person tell me recently that it's just a matter of time before that practice will be stopped. I believe the cellphone companies do it because they know their service sucks, so they won't to get you for 2 yrs!
RE: Wichita, Ks. Eagle
Thats what I like about living in the country! We can park any darn thing we want in our yard whenever we want. We recently fixed up a gravel pad with a 30 amp electrical connection, so we can host friends in rvs, or use our rv as a guest house. No one can say a word about it. I love it, I love it, I love it!
Now if the state of Kansas would just quit raising my property taxes, so I can afford to live here. Of course, I can always sell out and become a fulltimer, but then I would have to worry about where I could park!!!!!!
RE: AT&T ranked dead last in satisfaction survey
I am with AT&T since 2002 (have a really cheap plan, $26.99/mo.) 350 anytime minutes, 3500 nights & weekends, plus nationwide long distance and no roaming. But, that said, I've not always been happy with the service. They have however bent over backwards to keep me as a customer, i.e. 3 new phones with no contract, 100 bonus minutes, etc. Right now, I am using a Sony Ericcson Z750A and even though it is out of warranty, (last Oct.), it has started giving me problems. I called them and they are giving me $215 credit to buy another phone. The problem, I don't know which phone to get. I've gone on their website and looked at the phones online and none of them seem to have rave reviews about them. I want a flip phone, I need a large keypad (have big fingers), would like a camera phone, a speakerphone, and I don't text much or play music on my phone. I also would like a good choie of ringtones. Does anyone have any suggestions on a phone that would meet my criteria and would be a pretty good phone? Help!
RE: Laptop Computer
We bought a 17" screen Toshiba in August at Walmart for $346. And, Toshiba is rated #2 in reliability of all laptops. Dell is way down the list. My granddaughter got a brand new Dell laptop for graduation, and her hard drive went out 2 times in 2 years.
