RE: IE-10/attaching files/photos problems

In my IT business I've been running across quite a few site compatibility problems with IE 10. I'd recommend going to Control Panel, Programs & Features, click on "Turn Windows Features On or Off" on the upper left, then remove the check in the box next to "Internet Explorer 10". It will then probably require a reboot and then you'll be back to IE9.

RE: Weight vs frontal area

The weight of the trailer has the largest impact of getting moving form a stop (or coming to a stop).
The frontal area or drag of the trailer has more of an impact while you are traveling at speed.
This is correct. In addition to our travel trailer, we also have owned an enclosed car trailer for 18 years. I've found that there's little difference in mileage if the trailer is loaded or empty.

RE: LED Taillight Bulbs - 2002 Ford Superduty

Just putting LED bulbs in the old housing never gives very good results and can be dangerous because the brake lights are especially weak. You can however buy whole new tali light housings with LED technology incorporated. Look for the ones that are DOT approved - the look the most "factory".
Good advice! I tried the LED replacement bulbs in my Excursion and immediately took them back out because they didn't work with the lens in the taillight and were unsafe. A full LED taillight assembly is the only way to go.

RE: Do Weight Distribution Hitches Matter much?

A weight distributing hitch won't have any effect on your mileage but it will considerably help with towing stability and suspension performance. I won't tow without one and I have a 3/4 and 1 ton trucks that I use for towing.

RE: 7.3 PSD Transmission question

I've got one 7.3 with over 166k on it and another with about 128k. Both have had the transmissions serviced but both run perfect.
I'm with the other folks who have advised you to perform routine maintenance on it and just wait until you have a problem (if you ever do!).

RE: GPS navigation device vs. Smartphone

I only use my smartphone as a backup and rely on my Garmin. If you're using your smartphone for GPS and you're in a large city with quick navigation instructions and then get a phone call, the GPS is essentially unusable until you can get rid of the phone call.
If you do want to use your cell phone, you can install CoPilot or Sygic which will install map data into the phone so you do not need a cell connection for it to work.
The Garmin 560 LMT is a good GPS. I've been using one for over a year.

RE: Windows 8

I bought a new laptop that doesn't have touch screen and hated it for the first day and a half. Once I figured out how to customize the start tiles, I now really like it. My system boots in 1/3 the time as Windows 7 and wakeup from sleep mode is almost instant. I have no regrets.

We bought a used Starcraft RKS 2500 4 years ago and haven't regretted it. We love the trailer and it seems to fit the bill for your requirements.

RE: Cryo Brake Rotors

Slotted or drilled will cool a bit faster but will take less BTU's.
The more material the better for rotors. Get rotor that are the thickest you can find. The more material the better.
Most (not all, but most) of the time a person is not driving their TV correctly if they warp a rotor or their brakes are on fire at the bottom of a hill. Either that or they are overloaded.
Get a good set of rotors and pads. If you have to go with fancy bandaid stuff something else is wrong.
Great advice. I tried the drilled and slotted rotors on my Excursion. They heat cracked between the holes and had to be replaced prematurely. I replaced them with slotted-only rotors but have low-speed vibration when stopping from the slots. My other truck has the stock type solid rotors and stops better and more smoothly. As soon as it's time for new rotors on the Excursion, I'll go back to the stock-type rotors.
Don't waste your money on the cryo, drilled and/or slotted rotors.

RE: suburban 1/2ton or 3/4ton for pulling outback210rs

I'd go 3/4 ton. Much more capable suspension and brakes than a 1/2 ton.

RE: 1995 Suburban K2500,4x4, 7.4l, 1-ton chassis

I've had two 2500 Suburbans in the past and it's common for them to have 1-ton components. They're heavy-duty trucks built for towing.

RE: Rest Stops/Truck Stop Layovers

I believe that the gun laws that let you have a gun in your "castle" to protect it also apply to your RV. You should be able to carry a weapon in your RV without a permit in any state. Most states have castle or "stand your ground" laws.
When the thief tries to break down your door, rack a shell into your shotgun and he will either leave or get a belly full of buckshot if he breaks down the door.
Gun laws vary from state to state. If you're caught carrying a firearm into some states or cities without the proper permit you can be charged with a serious firearm offense.

RE: Opinions On GPS Unit Needed Please

I use the Garmin 560 LMT. It does height/weight/width routing and pops up an icon on the screen if you're on a route for which it doesn't have data. The lane finder function is EXCELLENT with not only a top display well in advance of a turn but an actual graphic representation of the exit also showing you which lane to be in. I use it for driving commercial buses as well as my RV and wouldn't travel without it.
I also use CoPilot on my phone as a backup because its traffic monitor uses Inrix which is much more dynamic and accurate then the Navtech traffic on the Garmin. The problem with using one's cell phone as a GPS is that you'll lose navigation if someone calls on the phone which can really be unhandy if you're in the middle of busy traffic around a big city.

Washed the exterior, fixed a leaking water line and then patched the floor. We're still having sub-freezing weather on and off so I'll flush and sanitize the water lines and FW holding tank in a few weeks.

RE: Electrical Help

I see two possible problems.
But some questions:
First: Is it ONLY tripping the GFCI when the surge guard is plugged in? An RV surge Guard like the Progressive Dynamics Energy Monitoring System (Not management) provide several important services.
One is spike suppression, Most of what they call "Surge Guards" are actually spike suppressors and these units are no exception.. In addition the high quality RV units provide genuine SURGE protection (And dip as well).
However we will skip all that as it's the SPIKE suppressors that can become a problem, They are MOV's (metal oxcide vairsistors) Devices which normally show a high resistance but once a "Threshold" voltage is reached they show a very low resistance. As they age, anything is possible and one may be bad.
If it does not matter if the surge guard is present then....
The water heater electric element, The fridge electric element are both common "partial shorts" should they become damaged, Also if a screw was in just the right spot it may have wore it's way through a wire or there may be some other "connection box" issue (Shuch as a junction box full of water).
Finally... The GFCI may be bad.
Great advice. One more thing to check would be for a neutral-ground bond in the trailer. I'd unplug the trailer and use a VOM to check for neutral to ground (white to green) continuity at the plug. If there is continuity, then that would also trip a GFCI. The bond would need to be located and corrected.

RE: 20-25' With Large holdig tanks

We love our Starcraft 2500 RKS. It has two gray tanks and one black tank plus 1 fresh water tank. I have a luggable generator that rides fine just inside the door. It also has a queen bed that can be accessed from 3 sides.
