RE: outside showers, what are they for?

It's also good for rinsing the soap off of those dishes that have too many crevices and hiding spots for bubbles that the dish towel can't reach. Simply having a bar of soap out there, like other posters have said, is a lot easier and cleaner than running in and out of the trailer to wash hands and such.

RE: TV picture affected when Turning on fans

I had a similar problem with the 120 volt to 12 volt converter for my Koolatron cooler. I contacted the company and told them of the interference that the equipment was causing and they replaced the converter for free. I would contact the manufacturer of the fan(s) and tell them about your problem. The various standards groups that certify the equipment usually set a tolerance for electromagnetic interference (EMI) so that things like this don't happen. It's at least worth an email to them. Len.

DTV Converter - Apex DT250A

Good day, all. I've purchased an Apex DT250A at Future Shop (in Canada) so that I can get all of the digital channels emanating from the US (I'm 60 miles from Windsor/Detroit). Does anybody else have this rig? I'm trying to figure out if I can manually add channels to the channel map after I've done the automatic channel scan? I can manually tune to them by punching the real channel number (not the virtual) on the remote, but it doesn't add it to the channel list. This, of course, is a problem with the Winegard Sensar directional antenna, which is even worse when adding the Wingman. Any tips or tricks from anybody are greatly appreciated. Cheers! L

RE: 23SS Water pump, etc.

You'll see in Chuck's picture that the water flows from "right" to "left". The pump connector on the "left" is connected to the elbow and then the plumbing is connected to the water filter. The hose coming in from the right comes from the outside water connector and the water tank. As far as the door latch goes, here's what I do. I always disconnect the awning arm and peg it into the ground straight up and down so that the door can swing wide open. I also bought a long straight 6" door holder and installed it right beside the existing L-shaped holder. That way I never use the L shaped one, that was already broken at the dealership when he was giving me the go-over when I picked it up for the first time. :-) And my 09 Shamrock 23SS came with the three hinge setup too. I just removed the two screws from the hinge on the left and used a hidden door latch inside of the door. All that's missing is a couple of screws and the screw holes are hidden by the hinge. I've done the same thing on the other side for the cabinet where the water tank is hidden. L.

RE: Now there's peace and quiet in the trailer (pump mod)

In an accumulator tank there is only one way for liquids to get in and get out -- it's not a flow through kind of setup. It would take a lot of cycles of filling and emptying the accumulator to dilute the antifreeze enough so that it wouldn't be noticeable in the water. Here's a wikipedia article about accumulators. In the RV case the liquid for pressurization is water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_accumulator I have another question: Why the shut off valve? Who cares if rv antifreeze gets into it while winterizing it. It will only get flushed out when un-winterizing.

RE: carbon monoxide sensors

There was a thread or two about this somewhere in this forum and the temperature issue was that the "non-RV" CO detectors gave off false alarms when the temperature is down pretty low. Bumpy said that RV's are maintained at roughly the same temperatures as houses -- I'd have to disagree. I don't keep my RV heated in the winter and unless the temperature is going to be below 5 degrees Celcius I don't turn my furnace on -- just grab an extra blanket and snuggle closer to momma! :-) But that means that my non-RV CO alarm would sound and momma would give me the "cold shoulder" until I fixed it.

RE: bunk end insulation

When not boondocking and have access to electricity we just use an electric heater driven by a fan. That way you aren't using any propane to heat the place and it doesn't cost you any extra. The 'foil-one-side' emergency blankets on the outside shiny side down helps out immensely. I need to try the "reflectix" stuff on the bottom of the mattress too. The "standard option" heated mattresses in the Shamrock/Roo 23SS are kinda nice too. L.

RE: Width of the 2008 Roo's/Shamrock?

Ours 23SS had a delivery date of around September 7 or 8 and it's the 8' model, at least according to my interpretation of Chuck's pics. I'd measure it for everybody, but it's out of my dad's out of the weather. L.

RE: Storing with jacks down?

Don't use WD-40 to lubricate anything. It is designed to free sticky parts but by cleaning up the area, not by lubricating. Eventually the WD-40 will dry out the seals and you'll be in for a big money fix. The "WD" actually is short for "water displacement". I'd throw the old fashioned petroleum jelly on there before WD-40, at least after cleaning the cylinders. And by the way, unless you have the old bias-ply tires on your trailer you shouldn't get any flat spots when it is sitting for any length of time. Today's radials don't have the same problem. I hope this info is of use to you. L.

RE: Winegard adds UHF gain to the Batwing

On the campingworld website: " the Sensar Wingman is optimized for Digital and HD programming" I love the way they market this kind of stuff focusing on digital and HD TV when they didn't do anything other than what the industry has been doing for years. All this thing does is adds some more sensitivity to the antenna and will make better for both analog (still in Canada for 2 more years) and digital broadcasts. TV broadcasts will still use the same frequencies in the VHF and UHF bands, just in a different format. Improvements were needed to the Batwing antenna because with digital it's an all or nothing deal -- you must receive the vast majority of the signal in order for the TV to display what's being sent out. At least with analog one could still watch something that was on the fringe of reception, although it would look like it was recorded in a blizzard.

RE: Where did the water tank go? Shamrock 23SS

Correct. Port is "Left" because they both have four letters. I remember thinking exactly that but still buggered it up. I really need to go camping to clear my mind. But with another potential big blast of snow headed for Southern Ontario (and parts beyond) on Monday/Tuesday, it's going to be even longer in coming.

RE: Where did the water tank go? Shamrock 23SS

My 08/09 Shamrock was built in August 2008 and it still has the water tank on the port (passenger's) side front cabinet with the water pump and water filter in the starboard (driver's) side front cabinet. Looks like they must have changed them right around Labour Day or something. Agreed that the undercarriage tank would be nice to add more storage inside, but personally I'd like to see a bit more/larger storage accessible from the outside. But moving up from a 19' Cub to the 23 footer with the slide is magical none the less!!! Len Blenheim, ON OK, I found the water tank on the '09 Roo/Shamrock 23SS: As suspected, it's under the trailer body about midframe and under the slide area. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/04659931-IMG_1382.JPG width=640 This trailer was at the RV Show tonight. Built 09/24/08. Forest River has a history of transitional models so an earlier 23SS may still have the water tank in the front cupboard. -- Chuck
