RE: Onan 5500 generator slow to start, quits

Clear the code by disconecting the battery hot wire at the gen set....Then try to re start the gen set....after it is running spray some carb cleaner in the carb with the air cleaner removed.. use the spary stick to clean the deposites.....gen set will not stay running with a code flashing.....Hope this is of some help:C

RE: Orange County to Death Valley: a follow-up

I have been both ways more than once....the Baker route may be faster due to the longer run in I15.......I just like the 395 route more.....You have some big grades both ways.....Cajon for both...on 395 short but steep just north of Red Mountain....a few short but steep on Trona Road....and at least one more before you enter Death Valley......hope this helps:)

RE: NOTHING LASTS FOREVER

They are the Costco brand....about the same price as I paid six years ago...they do look a littie different.....old ones were white with red tops....the new ones are all black...probably a different supplier....6v deep cycle golf cart batteries:)

RE: Measured my parasitic loads and Fridge controller board draw

With everything turned off.....I get .4 amp draw this is due to the fuel gauge, tri-metric, and inverter control pannel....

NOTHING LASTS FOREVER

After six years of service I replaced all six of my Costco 6v golf cart batteries........I went out one morning and my gen set was running and that would only happen if the battery charge was very low....upon inspection I found that I had three of the six batteries with more than one dead cell....No extra load or abnormal use had been placed on my system.....just old age.....I bought six more Costco 6v for $79.00 each and am back on line again.....:C

RE: Rust paint on jack pads?

I repainted both the steps, rear bumber, and 5th wheel pin area with Rust Oleum from Lowels....The trick is in the prep.....light sanding or scotch brite the surface...clean with alochol, mask off and paint.....I did this in 09 and it still looks good.....:S

RE: Boondocking 395 near Mammoth Lakes?

I have stayed at Glass Creek a couple of times....should not be a problem for your rig.....Might be better to get there before dark though......You will know where to turn off 395 when you get to the Cal Trans buildings on the right as you go north....Enterance to Glass Creek is directly accross 395 on your left.....:)

RE: Use of battery maintainer on fifth wheel.

Even with the battery tender you take the chance of running out of water......seven months is a long time.....don't ask me how I know this...........even though it is a pain in the xxx......for best battery life you would be better either checking the water level every couple of months or removing them for home storage:)

RE: Trailer saver DB3 ajustment

TrailerSaver makes a base mount that can change the height of the unit...the air bags should be inflated so that the air bags are half way between full up and full down....while the trailer is attached...

RE: Traffic Alerts

I seem to have trouble getting reliable info on the CB these days....I have found that the Google navigation app on my smartphone gives me very good real time traffic conditions...and it's free.....traffic conditions are listed in the menu page under layers..Hope this info is some help....:)

RE: Diesel driver info needed

I think you have it right......while my Dodge is a little different...from my truck driving days...it is just easier on the truck to keep the rpm's up a little and not lug the motor down to it's peak torque rpm....Mine always picks up heat on the hills but looses it right away on the down side...I think your temps are OK...:C

RE: Hensley TS-3

I have had mine for over ten years......works great....I remove and install it with a portable folding shop crane I got from Harbor Freight ....I made a extension that pins in and allows me to reach the center of the hitch with the tail gate down.....move it around on a furniture dolly also from Harbor Freight....:C

RE: Hey 5.9 Cummins owners, what is your highway MPG?

No trailer........18 to 22 mpg.....truck weighs 9500 lbs.....with trailer 9.5 to 10 mpg rig weighs 26,500 lbs combined truck and trailer......Grandpa used to say "A man that will lie about his gas mileage will lie about anything".......LOL;)

RE: Generator won't charge coach batteries

The Onan 5500 only makes 110 ......not set up to charge 12 volt batteries....your coach sould have a 110 powered converter to charge your batteries once the Onan starts up.....

RE: First tow with Trailersaver BD3
