Flaming Gorge to Grand Teton - Hwy 191

How is highway 191 over the mountains going into Jackson? I will be pulling a 38' 5th wheel.

RE: Brake Life

Thanks for the replys. They last longer than I thought, so after looking at how much pad material was on a set of new shoes, I'm going to leave mine alone for another year or so.

Brake Life

I know that there are many variables that will determine the life of your 5th wheel brakes, but about how many years do you get out of your brake shoes?

RE: Boondocking Taylor Park Colorado

You can get water at the Trading Post. There is a hydrant by the fence near the entrance that is free for everyone to use. It may be ok to drink, but we don't drink that water, but use it for showers, toilet, etc. and we drink bottled water.
As someone else said, it's a terrible place to go....don't forget the trails near Crested Butte. Pearl Pass and Devil's Punch Bowl to Crystal, Marble and then Lead King Basin are a couple favorites.
Just noticed MAY. Most of the higher elevation trails will still be blocked due to snow. The passes aren't reliably open till mid-July.

Heat Pump Issue

We have a problem with our heat pump that no one seems to be able to solve. The unit will start, heat and reach set point, shut off, but then when it tries to restart it clicks a relay in the unit several times before it will finally latch and start. Dealer has changed board with relay, tightened all connectors, etc. but still can't fix the problem. Any others have a similar problem or have any ideas?

RE: WIRELESS BACK UP CAMERA FOR A 5TH WHEEL

I've got the Voyager system and it works great. I double pull an ATV trailer behing my 38' 5th wheel and it sure helps to be able to see it. Camera is mounted w/ velcro inside looking out the big rear window. Only issue is glare at night. No issues w/ signal loss.

RE: Tandem towing

The 2011 Forest River Cardinal I purchased had a hitch that was offered as an option. I don't remember the exact spec's but believe it could tow up to 3,000#'s. It pulls my trailer w/ 2 atv's just fine.

RE: Pulling Trailer Behind Fifth Wheel

I'm doing it with a 38' 5th wheel and a lightweight aluminum trailer carrying 2 atv's. Best advise I can give is to get a rear camera to be able to see your trailer. Sure takes the stress out of wondering if it's still back there and ok.

RE: Help deciding on internet buy

I bought my Forest River Cardinal 5th wheel from RVdirect.com and had a good buying experience. I've needed several small warranty items fixed and a local dealer who doesn't even sell Forest River products has been more than happy to do the warranty work. FR has paid for all issues to this dealer w/ no problems. I could have gone to the local FR dealer who wouldn't come w/i $8,000 of the rvdirect price and who was snotty about not servicing if I bought from them....but, they have lost my business. I would internet buy again.

RE: "An end to renegade camping" local (Durango CO) story

I never considered us to be "renegades" when we camped there, but oh well, that's todays press...it has to be sensationalized. We camped there the last couple years and it was nice to get away from the crowded side by side RV parking lots of Silverton. You could find isolated spots with few neighbors and we never saw problems, although I'm sure there were some...since there are always those people who can't/won't follow a few common sense rules. It was quiet and you could really see the stars w/o the town lights. We atv, so it was nice not to have to trailer out of Silverton every day (no riding in town)to ride the awesome trails. If they are going to civilize the area and charge to camp, they should at least smooth the roads to the sites so damage can be avoided.

Eureka, CO

Someone in another thread said that the camping in Eureka area n. of Silverton had been turned into a "fee" area. Anyone been up there this year and have any additional information? This area is one of our favorite boondocking areas and we had planned to camp there mid-August.
