RE: Progressive Insurance for 5th Wheel

We winter in Mexico. Have State Farm on everything else we own, but they don't cover the RV in Mexico. We use Progressive on the RV as it's one of the few insurance companies that provides coverage in Mexico (without having to purchase a separate policy from a Mexican company, which for full coverage, is very expensive).

RE: Having the dealer replace factory tires?

We made this part of the deal with the dealer and manufacturer several years ago. Manufacturer's regional rep tried to tell us how little trouble they were having with the Chinese tires they used. We advised him we wouldn't order/buy unless they used the tires we specified. They finally said OK. Like a previous poster said, they get the $$$ back out of you somehow anyway - but at least you have the peace of mind to know you're running on decent tires.

RE: Opinions on 2007 Chevy 2500HD diesel 4x4

We have a 2007 GMC Sierra with the LBZ which we purchased new in March 2007. The new body style came out in January, 2007 (new EPA regs went into effect 1/1/07, resulting in the DPF on the new model). Our "Classic" must have been one of the last coming off the line before the new models were introduced. Have towed a heavy 5th wheel for the past five and a half years with no issues. Pulls great too!
An additiona; plus for the LBZ: We winter in Mexico and can use the diesel fuel here. There's no ultra-low sulpher diesel in Mexico except in a few Pemex stations near the border. An engine with a DPF is not supposed to run on the Mexican fuel.

RE: No Hot Water

We had the same issue last year and the problem was exactly that - the check valve coming off the water hearter. Replaced the valve and were good to go.

RE: Lukeville vs Nogales crossing

I realize this thread mainly concerns north to south crossings, but just an FYI about coming back north. I wouldn't recommend anyone with a large RV reenter the U S at Nogales. We came thru there a couple of hours ago pulling a 40 ft 5th wheel. We were directed to the far left of six or so lanes, but even then were unable to navigate the entry area cleanly. Border Patrol staff moved several signs and barriers for us, but the only way we could negotiate several of the turns was by pulling the 5er up over the curb. My brother-in-law, who was following us in a 40 ft motorhome towing an enclosed trailer, had the same problem.
We asked the border patrol staff if we had gotten in the wrong lane or done something else wrong and they replied: "no, it's just all the construction". Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. If RVs won't fit thru the regular lanes, they sould be directed thru a truck lane.

RE: Dogs crossing the boarder

We were asked for dogs health certificates when crossing at Lukeville last year. Only time we've been asked, but it's a good thing we had them.

RE: Pet Rules

Better not take a chance. We were asked for the certs when crossing last Nov. Luckily, we had them. We had our vet post-date the health certs as we knew we wouldn't be crossing within ten days and that worked OK.
