RE: Running an AC unit

It would be close and probably not doing the generator or the A/C any good. I have to turn off the eco-throttle on my Honda EU3000is to run the A/C as the surge pops the breaker on that.

RE: almost wiped out a Yugo

I'm continually amazed at the lack of cooperation, not to mention defensive driving, on the roads. Most Friday evenings during camping season, I need to get into the right lane for the exit onto RT 3 North (road to NH) off 128 South (loop highway around Boston) at least 3 miles before the exit. If I don't, nobody will let me into the right lane. When I have insisted, the people behind me pass me at their first chance just to show me their mastery of sign language. Far too many drivers have an attitude that every other vehicle on the road is an obstacle and they are in much more of a hurry than anyone else could possibly be. What these rocket scientists don't understand is if we all just obeyed the rules of the road, everyone would move faster.

RE: Why does Camping World over charge for products????

CW has products that I can't find anywhere else or if I can find them, I need to go to three different stores to get them. Every spring, I go through the same thing: renew the Pres Club or not? They got me this yr by cutting the price in half. I can find a lot of oddball camping stuff at CW and I love the experience of actually being in the store and being able to closely examine the objects of my desire. Sure, I bought my blue tote online but it was much cheaper and all CW carries is Thetford.

RE: Won't be posting anymore . . .

Cathy, The loss of a life-long partner like Bill must be painful beyond imagining. I can't pretend to know what you are feeling. I wish I knew him, though. Anybody who is hang gliding in his sixties must have been a great guy to have at a campfire. I'm sure he was loved and respected by many. You have my sympathy. You are in my prayers.

RE: Generator Box?

You should be very careful to make sure you are not voiding your warranty by putting your generator in a box. That said, I remember a thread about someone building a box for his generator about 3 years ago. It was not a cheap or simple project as you really need to have air moving through the box to cool the engine. Your generator is plenty quiet. just use it only when it is allowed and you'll be fine.

RE: more batteries, generator or solar panel?

We used a single 12V house battery for our 1st 2 yrs along with a generator. We got the Honda EU3000is so we could run the Air Conditioner and/or microwave. No problems except the need to strictly ration the electrons when the furnace was needed. We like to watch television at night, so we have a small inverter for that. Adding the second battery made it so we could go a whole weekend without charging or could not worry about rationing the juice and recharge each day. So, the short answer is to get the generator first.

RE: Possible purchase (and a mini-intro)

I bet you could tow something a bit bigger than a PUP with the 1500.

RE: internet provider that is secure

to address the OP's original question, Other than some very expensive options, security is not related to your ISP. It is how you protect yourself. A good firewall package will go a long way toward keeping the bad people off your computer. You need to understand how to protect yourself. Most of us can see the signs of a physically insecure neighborhood. You might see lots of garbage or homes in disrepair. When you pass through those neighborhoods, you don't hang your wallet out the window, you lock your car doors. It's the same with web sites. If you don't see the https in the beginning of the URL (Uniform Resource Locator aka "address") then don't wave your wallet around.

RE: internet provider that is secure

Let me apologize in advance if this gets a bit technical... Security on the web is handled by two things: 1) Server Certificates 2) HTTPS Protocol. (HyperText Transfer Protocol - Secure) When you go to a web site where you will be asked for your private information, it is your responsibility to check that the URL is secured. You can tell because the URL will begin with https:// not http:// like the page you are reading now. When the browser is sent to a secure site, the first thing it does is check to make sure the site has a valid "Certificate". Certificates are purchased from "Trusted Certificate Authorities (CAs)" who verify that the company buying the certificate is the owner of the web site. It's called third-party authentication. Someone both people trust verifies that the owner of the certificate is who he says he is. Once trust is established, the traffic to and from the web site is encrypted and cannot be read outside of your computer. So as long as you see "https" and don't see any certificate errors, your transactions will be very hard to intercept.

RE: Storage Honda 2000

I've read, on this forum, of a thief who disassembled a generator to steal it without damaging the handle...

RE: Good Sam ERS to the rescue

It could have been worse. I had a Nissan Pathfinder that was 10 years old when I tried to tow my TT with it. Needless to say, it self-destructed on the highway on the way to the dealer for some service on the TT. I called GS ERS. It took the tow truck three and a half hours to get there. I had pulled off the road and into the nearest big parking lot I found. It happened to be the parking lot of a Gentlemen's club called "The Foxy Lady". I didn't mind the wait so much because I got to watch several shift changes :B Of course, every 30 minutes or so a man in a tux would come out and ask if I would be there much longer.

RE: from Tom-Tom to the Can-Can

I'm a bit of a nerd so the first thing I did to my Garmin was to change the voice to the female Australian so I can fantasize that Nicole Kidman is giving me directions. I could never get tired of her :B

RE: Survived my 1st week. = -)

Also, get over to costco or walmart and buy a cheap 150 Watt inverter for those times when you need to recharge your cell phone or laptop in a pinch. just plug it into the "power port" (AKA cigarette lighter) in the dash.

RE: 12v Drill Corded

I'm not sure how much current a drill draws, but you could just use an inverter.

RE: Planning a Folk Music Tour for my Performances

Hi Tom, I'm not intimately involved, but my church houses the "Me And Thee Coffee House" and they put on many Folk Music Concerts from big names to relative unknowns. Most of the concerts are well attended and held in the church sanctuary. here's the web site. Good Luck.

RE: Prevcenting Frozen Pipes in REALLY Cold Weather

Unless the RV is designed for harsh conditions like that, I would just winterize the water and waste systems. You're going to end up doing more harm than good. I think it might be time to put those wheels on the bottom to use and "go where the weather suits your clothes."
