DEF Availability

We will leave Ohio soon ... on our way to Alaska! Is Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) readily available along the Alaska Highway and in Alaska?

RE: Rand McNally GPS

I purchased a GPS at the Louisville Good Sam Rally back in June of 2012. I paid the price for lifetime maps. I went to update it this morning the display on my computer says I do not have Lifetime maps. I sent Rand McNally a message. Waiting for a reply. Has any one else come across this?
Dan
I purchased mine in May 2012 and had the same problem. I too, sent E-mails that RM never answered. I called Rand McNally and eventually they activated the Lifetime Maps. And, fortunately I had registered my GPS with RM. There is some RM special purchase "events" for this unit. Lifetime Maps was to automatically included with my May 2012 purchase. The first RM phone person gave me a rough time about this. Said I needed to send in a proof of purchase from the box. Of course the box was "long gone". From one of the RM web-sites I found the exact dates of the different RM offers and called back. Got a different RM person and read him the info on the RM web-site. He activated my Lifetime Maps. Good Luck!

RE: jeep

My 2010 Wrangler does too..Really worried me the first time, did some research here and another forum and consensus is that it is normal....Many many people report the same issue....Apparently minute bits of tire get on the muffler and other heated parts as it is towed, when you start it up after towing it burns off--thus the smell....
Thank you! I thought I was losing my mind and I was burning up the brakes. Took the Jeep back to the dealer to check the brakes. All OK! But, still the smell. I thought I was losing it!

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

I too, have been "lurking" for some time. We signed up for the Fantasy Caravan that begins in Dawson Creek on July 14. We plan to leave Warren, Ohio sometime in late June and will work our way West, then North. This is our first trip to Alaska and we are looking forward to the adventure!

RE: Rand McNally 7710

I like our 7710. First of all, I keep it up to date. So far I have owned about a half dozen GPS. (I am a gadget person.) Each unit I've owned has its limitations so, at the present time , we RV travel with two units. One is built-in the other is the 7710. I am also very fortunate as my wife is an excellent navigator and she has the "final say". I've also noticed that the more congested and more populated the area, the more likely it is that the GPS gives wrong or bad directions. This has happened with all of our units, which includes three different brands. So, DW is most important in the congested, populated areas. Also, we try not to travel "blind" relying only on the GPS for direction. Normally, we know the routes or directions we plan to travel before we begin the journey. This is much more important in the RV and less important in a car.

RE: Supplemental Brake

We have a 2012 Jeep Liberty and use RVI Brake system. It works very well and is very easy to install. We are happy with this system!

RE: Rvibrake system for toads

I have had the RVi system for about a year. Compact, easy to install, and works great.

RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

I have a 2012 American Coach Revolution that I store in a garage. During prolonged storage I have connected the coach's electrical cord, with a 30 amp adapter, to my Champion generator. The coach's electrical system will not accept power from the Champion generator. The message from the coach system is "no ground". The storage area is a metal building so I connected the generator ground to one of the metal pillars. The message from the coach system is, again, "no ground". Also, is there any chance that the power from the Champion generator will or could damage the many computers in the coach?

RE: Brake system for 2011 Jeep Liberty

We have 2012 Jeep Liberty. RVI Brake works very well. You need to remove the plastic handle on the RVI Brake then it fits perfectly!

RE: From Fifth-Wheel to Class A

We had three 5th wheels. We liked each of them. This spring we went to a 42 ft DP and we love it. The ride over the road is so much more comfortable. We like haveing a smaller vehicle to drive around town. The interior is more "home-like". We do not have any second thoughts! :)

RE: spot free rinse

Why not use (purchase) one of the portable water softners. I have one and it works great. I use it primarily for soft water in the coach but can easily use it to rinse the coach too.
