RE: Coachman quality

We have had two Coachmen, one a Class C and one an A. Both were nice units with very few problems. We now have a Berkshire which is owned by Forest River who also own Coachmen. We had an issue with our Berkshire that Forest River is handling even though the coach is three years old. Based on our experience with Forest River I would have no problem recommending a Coachmen product.

RE: Lichtsinn RV, No Discount!

Billy, I know it is strange that one person can deal with a particular dealer and love that dealer and the next person can try the same dealer and absolutely hate that dealer. I've seen that with my favorite, Buffalo RV, and Lazy Days seems to also generate a love/hate relationship with customers. It just depends on how the transactions go and the smoothness or lack of same that comes about during the negotiations. Also Billy, I had a hunch that you and I and Executive were all saying the same thing but the semantics kind of got in the way. Safe travels to you whatever you may purchase. BTW, I'm holding out for an Entegra Anthem at some point in time. I just need to talk my wife into it and come up with a couple of very large checks. So far I'm short on both counts. Ed

RE: Lichtsinn RV, No Discount!

Billy, Let's say a dealer will give me $150,000 for my trade on a rig with an MSRP of $250,000 with no discounts. The difference is $100,000. So if dealer two will sell me that $250,000 rig by discounting it $25,000 but only give me $100,000 for my unit, does that make the discounted rig a better buy at $25,000 more than dealer one? Of course not. The only thing that matters is what is the amount of the check I have to write. Dealers can use discounts to obscure the price you are paying. It is fairly easy to check on line to see what the MSRP's are on various units. Knowing what the rig is listed for and seeing that it is consistently listed for a specific amount puts the only variable at the trade value. When we bought our Berkshire the variations we got in the price we needed to pay were over $26,000. The discount that one dealer says he is giving is irrelevant when they low ball your trade. Again, the only number that matters is the number on your check.

RE: Lichtsinn RV, No Discount!

Billy, it appears that you have a trade. What you need to focus on is the difference with your trade. If they are offering you a top dollar for your trade then there may not be a discount. The only number that really matters is the cash difference after the trade. Discounts are irrelevant when there is a trade in the mix.

RE: Tiffin VS. Winnebago

You should buy the one you like best. Does the floor plan work and which do you like to drive the best. Tiffin and Winny if you get them equally equipped should be about the same price. In my humble opinion Winnebago is less controversial. By that I mean Winnebago mostly good reviews on this site. Tiffin seems to have lots of haters and lovers. So I guess it is a more polarizing brand. The RVCG /RV Consumer Group rates pretty much every model of motorhome made in the USA. Go to their web site and see which they like the best. If nothing else the RVCG information is a quick way to see what the CCC is, towing capacity, and so on. It does go well beyond just the floor plan of a unit. It is easy to fall for RV bling which may reside in a motorhome that has a ton of issues. What you see in a floor plan is not nearly as important as what you don't see about how the motorhome was constructed and will it hold up. We had an Itasca Sunova which is a Winnebago product. It was a good unit but it was on a Workhorse chassis which was a bad chassis with bad brakes. Winnebago did help us out when we had issues so I have no complaint about them. Tiffin does elicit a lot of comments but I think there are some good reasons for that. Tiffin has a very loyal following which is a tribute to the brand. But, at times that loyalty seems to be misplaced. When you read about people having to make repeated trips to Red Bay to have the same problems fixed, it really makes one question the engineering of the brand and the service associated with that brand. Red Bay seems like a pilgrimage to Mecca for many Tiffin owners. Then to read that some folks literally spend weeks and even months waiting there for service creates the impression that this is a company with some issues. I admire the loyalty of Tiffin owners, but if I had to wait weeks for service at the factory and then have to go back because it wasn't fixed right, I would be hopping mad. As I tell anyone who is considering a Tiffin or any other brand. Go to their brand specific forum and read as many posts as you can. Then make your determination. The Tiffin RV Forum in particular is a great source of information about the brand and many other general RVing issues and suggestions. The same can be said about the Berkshire Forum and I'd be willing to bet there is a Winnebago Forum also.

RE: Tiffin VS. Winnebago

Be sure to check out the quality issues on tiffin. There has been a lot of posts about multiple trips to the factory. Has the flooring issues been resolved? I would actually be more concerned about the roof cracks that have been a major issue. Some people are on their third roof repair. With Tiffin's change in scheduling for repairs some folks have literally spent weeks in Red Bay, AL. Yea but you get to see and talk to Bob and stay in his "campground" for free Yes, you can stay there for weeks and weeks and weeks......

RE: Tiffin VS. Winnebago

Before making a final decision you might want to check out the Tiffin Forum. There are a lot of very knowledgable folks there and you will get pretty much the straight scoop on Tiffin. All of the quality control issues that Tiffin is having and their customer service are a very large concern. But the best advice is to check out that forum and the issues that folks are having and make your own determination.

RE: Forest River/Coacnmen

My experience with Forest River has been excellent so I would look upon it as being a plus that Coachmen is now owned by Forest River. Ever since Berkshire Hathaway purchased Forest River their quality and customer service seem to be improving dramatically.

RE: Cost for 4 corner weighing ?

Most truck scales that I have seen do not have enough level room on the sides of the scales to get a good or even a safe reading. I have been looking for somewhere here in WNY to get a four corners weight and have not had any luck.

RE: Where and How to buy RV?

Remember you can take the sales tax deduction on your 2013 return as well as any interest you paid during the year on your rig, assuming you are not already deducting interest on a second home. Be careful on the sales tax questions as many states have gotten very aggressive on locating and prosecuting anyone who registers a vehicle in another state to avoid the sales tax and who does not comply with the letter of the law regarding residency and vehicle registration. Any other deductions for the RV would have to be for a business related expense which may be difficult to prove but can be done if it is well enough documented.

RE: Towable? Mini Cooper

We towed a 2005 Mini S Convertible for several years. It is an easy car to tow. Light and fun to drive when you get there. We just put the six speed manual into neutral and turned the key on then off and away we went. No issues at all.

RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

I is nice to know that in today's world there are so many caring people that open their mouths without asking for the facts. Fact 1) We bought and paid for the coach in Orlando during the Tampa RV Show. 2) We delayed picking up the coach until April as here in western Pa. winter weather is not conducive to picking up a motorhome. 3)If you care to see the MSRP sticker I will be glad to email it to you. I did not say that is what we paid for it. 4) we transferred the license from our old coach to the new coach so we had no choice but to leave with the new coach 5) Had we stayed and not left the police would have been called. Ever been arrested in a state other than your own? 6) If anyone cares to see the emails between Mark the vice president of RVDirect, Mitch the warranty rep at Forest River and myself I'll be glad to forward them to you. Forest River and RV One are both shysters and the courts will solve our problem. There is a reason why many of us were skeptical of the post. It is not uncommon for a new poster to come on bashing a dealer or manufacturer and then never be heard from again. As I stated in an earlier post I was mistaken about the list prices as they have gone up considerably over the last three years. I am sorry to hear of your troubles and I certainly realize that there are times when a rig leaves the factory that never should have left. My experience with Forest River and RVOne has been the direct opposite of yours. Any issues we have had have been dealt with fairly and quickly by both the dealer and the manufacturer. We have had very few problems with our unit and absolutely no problems with RVOne. One man's pleasure is another man's pain and the same can be said for RV's and their dealers.

RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

Well, we don't know a lot. But we do know that it is Bob Judy Miller. Must be true, as I read it on their internet forum profile. That goes under the heading of "It must be true. I read it on the internet!" I guess I'm surprised to find that my Berkshire has gone up in MSRP by more than $50,000 in less than three years. So I do stand corrected on my MSRP statement. However, I still question the validity of the post. If someone is that unhappy at the PDI then by all means take up your issues with the powers that be and don't write the check.

RE: Forest River Motorhomes RV One Superstores????

WEll, we can even add to the "mystery" of this first post. You see the Berkshire doesn't even LIST for $262,000, but the OP says he's got a coach that cost him that much. He bought it in Orlando but picked it up in Buffalo? He's having so many problems with his coach and his dealer, yet so many of us who have dealt with both companies have had great responses from both the dealer and the manufacturer. Yep, something doesn't add up at all.

RE: Visiting Branson Mo. in June, any sugestions for Rv parking

We stayed at ABC and would do so again. Its tight, clean and has a friendly staff. Bob We also stayed at ABC. We also rented a car at Enterprise and it worked out fine. They picked us up and dropped us back off at our unit at the end of the rental. It made for a very fun week of entertainment and very low stress.

RE: Newer entry level DP bunkhouses?

There are actually a fair number of bunk models out there. For slightly more than you are looking at spending right now, you can get a brand new Berkshire 390bh. You can get a used unit in the pre 2011 range for well within your budget. Other brands that have bunks also include Thor, Coachmen, Tiffin, and I believe Fleetwood has a bunk model. There is even a tag axle unit available in the Charleston, which is another Forest River product.

RE: Narrowed down to 2 choices........maybe?

Before jumping too much into the Tiffin pool, check out the Tiffin RV Forum and note the many design problems that seem to be so prevelent with Tiffins. Yes, Bob will take care of you, but a poor design is still something that needs to be addressed. Some of the issues noted by Tiffin owners are cracked roof radiuses, slide room issues, cracked front caps, rotting wet bay floors, and other issues. Fleetwood still is haunted by a past bankruptcy so both units have issues that you need to do your homework on before signing the check. Either way, good luck with your search.

RE: Allegro 36LA? Good and Bad

Perhaps you might want to check out the Tiffin forum for issues with various Tiffin coaches. There seem to be a number of problems from cracked roof rails, rotting wet bays, slide issues, and other design and construction flaws.
