Old B?

Can anyone find a B in these clips? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQDtgPV2ZXY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA2pFtZ0cHg

RE: golf cart batteries in coach????

Yes, it is done a lot. Two 6v golf cart batteries in series produce 12v but give a lot more power because the batteries are physically larger. They are built to be used severely also. The big problem is that they are considerably taller than standard batteries and may not fit. If I had room I would be using them, my past RVs had them and they are great. Wayne, 05 PW Excel

RE: Do I need leveling blocks?

We bought our PW new in 05 and bought blocks. We have crossed the country 7 times plus both ends of Canada. Mountains deserts, Forest service and State parks. We have used the blocks twice. I would leave them home but I know that as soon as I do I will need them. Years ago we had to use blocks a lot, now most sites are close enough unless you go for back country boondocking. The worst places we have found were some of the state parks in Vermont and New Hampshire. At least blocks give you some piece of mind even if you don't use them. Wayne 05 PW

That carrier is also made in Canada. Wayne

RE: Dodge Ram ProMaster (Fiat)

I just answered my own question, the Fiat at least has a ladder frame so I imagine that access doors could be cut into the sides. As to the front wheel drive, one benefit would be that having no drive shaft would allow a lot more freedom as far as routing plumbing and placing holding tanks. This is probably wishful thinking on my part as at my age I am probably on my last rig. Wayne http://www.allpar.com/trucks/ram/ProMaster.html

RE: Dodge Ram ProMaster (Fiat)

One of the problems that has kept me away from a Mercedes is the lack of outside storage (not the underside of the bed of course) and having poor access to the generator. I am wondering if Ford and Fiat will have the same restrictions on cutting holes in the body. Since they are probably unitized bodies I would imagine the restrictions would still be there. Wayne

RE: Finding it increasingly difficult to park overnight

On the other hand there is the WalMart in Elko NV that has a big sign at the entrance announcing that RVs are welcome overnight. Wayne

RE: Class A Owner Moving To Class B - Brand Help

As you have found out a B is a series of compromises. Since you have decided on a Sprinter you have one less decision. You did not mention Sportsmobile. They will build it any way you like and they have a great reputation, you might want to look at their web site. My only concern is 2 golf bags. Sprinters do not have much in the way of outside storage so you are left with under the bed. A possibility is one of the hitch mounted storage carriers that are available. I can not think of a bad make, it all boils down to what you like and your needs. Good luck. Wayne, 05 PW Excell

B sightings

We spotted this rig off the east end of the Merritt Island bridge by Titusville Fl yesterday. I have seen a lot of VW conversions but this was a new one. Even had a solar panel. Wayne http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk187/wsfurrie/TitusvilleVW_zps5eb54eb4.jpg

RE: Face to Face RV Electrical Instruction in S. CA.

Try this site, Noel Kirkby has been doing RV solar for ages. You can buy his book for $5.00 and download it, very friendly honest people. Wayne http://www.rvsolarelectric.com/

RE: Solo fulltime in a B?

Full time means just that to most RVers. It means selling or renting your home and carrying all your belonging with you. That means health and tax records, summer and winter clothes (even in the south it gets cool) and much more. I knew a couple who did it in a tent trailer but that is a bit much. It can be done in a B but much easier if you are solo. If a couple is in a B and one gets sick it is hard to put that person to bed not to be disturbed. Full time in a B is being done but not by me or my spouse. Wayne

RE: Stablizing Jacks

Lack of ground clearance. I investigated having them installed on my 05 PW Excell. They will not fit.

RE: What speed does one drive a "B"?

Speed and braking is important but so is handling. Over the last 60 years I have been in a few tight spots with a car when handling saved me. This only happened once with my B but once was enough to really scare me. An RV does not stop as fast or handle as well as a car, when an emergency happens you have precious little time to check blind spots or even to react. At my age my reactions are slowing down and so is my rig. Wayne, 05 Pw Excell

RE: An Ambulance conversion

If they took the inverter out I assume that you know where it was located. There should still be the wiring for the inverter output, you could install a male receptacle and plug an extension from the generator to it. That said, I would want to check out the circuits in the ambulance. I have not the slightest idea what is in one, how big the inverter was or what it drove. If you are not handy with circuits you might want to find someone knowledgeable. Good luck, Wayne

RE: Pick one

If you take the camper off, the truck would be more useful. A long bed supercab might be a little long for normal in town use. I love our B, but there have been times when it would have been nice to have a pick-up around. Wayne

RE: Bringing my Mercedes Sprinter Van to America

I talked to a couple from Germany last summer. They have made several trips here with their RV. They claimed that they had much less trouble when coming into Halifax. Apparently in this case our red tape is worse than the Canadian. Wayne

RE: why put bathroom on passenger side?

Just a guess but it probably does make the plumbing a lot easier. having the toilet and black water tank on the drivers side means that they are on the same side as the dump valve. If the black tank was on the passenger side the the large dump pipe would have to cross the rig to get to the valve. That is a problem with a drive shaft in the way. The smaller plumbing from a sink would be much easier. Class Bs are harder to work with and leave fewer options.

RE: Furnace question

Whatever type heating you use, leave the doors under the sinks open at night to allow air circulation to the plumbing. I have used the Buddy heater and it is great, the small one is plenty for a B, the big one would run you out.

RE: Name this "B"...

We full timed for years with a V10 and have one in our Excell. Never had the heat gauge come close to the red line on either. The needles moved up but never to the point that I worried, maybe I am just a cautious driver. We drove the Sierra's, and the Rocky's north and south. As a matter of fact they are the only 2 RVs we have owned that I can say that about. This is off topic and should be changed. Wayne, 05 Excell TS
