Driving to Orlando

I am driving from south jersey to fort wilderness in disney. Has anyone driven this route? If so I was wondering a few things. First I think we are going straight through leaving jersey at arouns 6pm and driving through the night. Has anyone done this? The second thing is the route is 301 the best route to take given I will be passing baltimore and washington at night?

RE: Has anyone had this happen to them?

Mine has no cover on the bottom. That is something that has come to mind I thought about just taking the cover off but I stop short because it came with the cover in tact. I feel if it came with the cover it shoudl always have one that is why I want to dealer to look at it and fix it. I am just not sure. I am hoping that the dealer doesn't just suggest cutting it off and that's it. It is a brand new trailer and I don't think it should have this problem. I don't think it is from anything I did wrong. I just slid the thing out and in...isn't that is what it was made for???

Has anyone had this happen to them?

I just bought a new coachmen catalina and have used it for about two weeks. It has a slide out that has a tarp covering on the bottom. After sliding it out this past weekend I noticed that the tarp covering has started to seperate and come loose from the bottom of the slide out. When I returned home I slid the side out to clean and now the tarp is completely loose and actually hanging down now. I have called the dealer and plan on taking it back to them needless to say I am very upset with this. Has anyone had this happen? Will they have to take the slide completely out in order to fix this problem? Thanks for your help.

First Trip in the new trailer

Well we we headed out for our first trip in the new trailer this weekend and only encountered a few problems. I drove the truck with the dogs and my wife had the baby, teenager, and her friend in her car. We arrived around 8:00pm friday night in the dark. I encountered a lot of sway on the way down and back which was kind of disappointing considering I was messing around with the weight distribution hitch and friction sway bar all day. I think I am going to add somemore tongue weight for the trip to williamsburg on Saturday but I really think the reese dual cam or equalizer are the way to go. I did feel better though seeing some of the crazy hook ups coming in and out of the campground. Well when we got to the site I pulled in and set up unhooked the truck, leveled the trailer, then I went to hook up the cable, water, and electric which went pretty well until I went to hook up the sewerage and realized the hose was too short. Since we were only there for three nights I figured it would be ok. I would say the trip was a success and I feel we are ready to go for a whole week in VA. The only things I question are what do I do about condensation from the AC and I bought these stilts for the tip out of the trailer and noticed nobody else in the campground was using them. I bought them because I have a super slide tip out and that is where all of the seating is. Should I be using these stilts or not? Oh one other thing...How do i make the trailer more stable? I have jacks but the trailer still shakes some. Is this just something I have to get used to?

Re-adjustment of distribution hitch

I have re-adjusted my distribution hitch. It is a little better at the second chain length but a lot better at the third chain length. The only thing is at three chain lengths the bars are close parallel but pointing slightly up and I am pulling them up pretty hard. Is that ok? Should I just stick with two links for this trip (which is in about three hours) and re-adjust later? Thanks for the help.

RE: Problems with WD Hitch

I called etrailer.com today and they said the part would be delivered next week which kills me for this weekend so instead I went to the hardware and bought the stuff in the link below. It is a clevis pin, 7 hardened washers, and a 1-1/4 hex bolt. The reason I bought the hex bolt and clevis pin was because I am not sure what to use the pin has holes in it and the bolt is solid. I figure the bolt would be better because it is solid. What are your opinions? Will I be ok with this set up? If so I might be able to send the package back. All of your thoughts are welcome. Thanks http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu232/yourfriend1976/DSC01966.jpg width=500

RE: Problems with WD Hitch

Thanks to all of you for the help. I have ordered the parts from etrailer and I plan on fixing it when I get them. My neighbor has a torque wrench and we are planning to get it ready friday morning for a two hour tow Friday evening. I have already decided on getting a Equalizier hitch for next summer. I was going to strech my finances and get it yesterday but I just decided to go with the replacement parts instead.

RE: Problems with WD Hitch

Ok I am getting a better understanding now. My hitch definately has a serrated washers. So you are saying I will konw if I have to adjust the head angle just by leveling the trailer and measuring the coupler hight and hitch head height? When I do this the hitch head will be one inch lower than the coupler height right?

Weight distribution problems continued...

I just went home during lunch and looked at the hitch (Valley Industries Weight Distribution Hitch). After looking at the directions I have noticed this pin and hardened washers that are supposed to be in the hitch head are not there. Is this bad? I have a call into Valley Industries and am waiting thier response.

Problems with WD Hitch

I hooked up my trailer yesterday and drove it on to the road in front of my house for a level set up. After looking at it I am thinking the hitch head needs to be adjusted because the back end of the TV drops more than two inches and the front doesn't really move that much. I also noticed that the bars point up towards the trailer. I am pissed because I just bought the darn thing and dealer put it on for me. I guess they didn't know what they were doing. I think a change will help fix some of the problems I am having with towing. As of now I am getting a decent amount of sway and a lot of bounce in the back. My question is will increasing the angle of the hitch head fix my problem and what do I do if I need more washers for the pin? DO I just go to any hardware store and buy them?
